Chapter 65 - Chapter 41 Abyssal Descent

Chapter: Abyssal Descent

"Not again..."

The whisper barely escaped Vrita's trembling lips. Her eyes widened, reflecting a primal terror that ran far deeper than the bloody chaos of the battlefield around them.

Kael stood completely still, suspended in a horrific serenity. When his mouth finally opened, the voice that spilled out did not belong to a mortal. It was a distorted, overlapping resonance—two distinct entities speaking in perfect, chilling unison. It sounded like cracked glass scraping against the inside of a hollow throat.

"Soul Conversion."

The temperature in the clearing didn't just drop; it plummeted into a freezing void.

A suffocating, heavy aura erupted from Kael's core, warping and twisting the very air into visible, localized distortion waves. His left eye, previously a brilliant, radiant gold, bled out into a terrifying, light-devouring black. His right eye shattered, its golden hue fracturing into a mesmerizing, abyssal purple that hummed with ancient malice.

Crack.

Two jagged, obsidian horns tore violently through his hairline, dripping with dark ichor. From his spine, a thick black mist began to bleed, tearing through his clothes before crystallizing into a pair of monstrous, fractured wings. They looked like shards of shattered glass suspended in a void, radiating a killing intent so oppressive it felt physical.

Standing a few meters away, holding Vrita and Sara captive, Vajr's jaw dropped. He swallowed hard, the sudden, icy sweat on his neck betraying his composure. He tried to mask his unease with a manic, mocking grin. "Well... now *that* is what I call a theatrical transition."

The spirit, refusing to let Kael adapt to the change, surged forward. It moved like a streak of errant lightning, its ethereal claws aimed to sever Kael's head from his shoulders in a single, decisive stroke.

But Kael wasn't there.

With a slight, almost lazy tilt of his upper body, Kael sidestepped. The lethal attack passed harmlessly through empty space, slicing only the fading afterimage of his silhouette.

Within the dark, infinite recesses of Kael's mindscape, an ancient, mocking voice echoed from the shadows.

'Idiot. You unlock this state, yet you have absolutely no idea how to wield the power flooding your veins.'

'I don't even know where my limits are right now,' Kael replied mentally, his physical face remaining an unmoving mask of cold apathy.

'Then watch closely,' the broken soul commanded, its voice dripping with venomous anticipation. 'And learn how to butcher them.'

[Replica].

Dark energy spiraled into Kael's right hand, condensing rapidly until it forged a jagged, sinister longsword. The weapon hummed, bleeding a chaotic, static-like mist.

The spirit hovered to a halt a few paces away, turning to look at the blade with a mocking sneer. "Oh? You can manifest toys too? Nice try, boy... but that is a cheap imitation. It's no Redemption Sword."

Kael didn't offer a word in response. The corners of his mouth simply curled into a dark, unsettling smirk.

He moved.

One step, and the ground beneath his boot shattered into a spiderweb of craters. Kael closed the distance instantly, bringing the blade down in a brutal arc. The spirit didn't even bother to dodge, allowing the dark metal to pass directly through its ethereal, intangible form. Zero damage.

"Kael..." the spirit teased, glancing down at its own unblemished chest. "Your weapon is wea—"

The spirit's words died in its throat.

Kael hadn't been trying to cut it. He held up the blade, and before everyone's eyes, the jagged metal began to liquefy. The dark energy sank directly into Kael's skin, fusing with his flesh, muscle, and bone, transforming his forearms into a dense, interlocking set of metallic, abyssal armor.

Vajr burst into a loud laugh, completely distracted by the bizarre display. "What the hell was that?! Did you just eat your own—"

BOOM!

A localized sonic boom shattered the air. Kael, now armed with reinforced, weaponized fists, drove a catastrophic straight punch directly into the spirit's midsection. The sheer kinetic force folded the entity completely in half. A shockwave ripped through the clearing, flattening the grass as the spirit was launched backward like a cannonball, carving a deep, jagged trench through the earth.

Vajr's laughter choked off instantly. His grip on his captives faltered for a fraction of a second.

It was the only opening Vrita needed.

Her eyes flared with an incandescent, draconic fury. [Dragon's Breath].

A blinding torrent of scorching, elemental force erupted from her lips, blasting Vajr square in the chest. The explosion threw him off his feet, sending him skimming across the dirt in a flurry of sparks and burning fabric.

Before Vajr could even register the impact, Sara was already closing the distance like an apex predator, her fist cloaked in a dense, pressurized layer of heavy mana. As Vajr scrambled to his knees, dazed and coughing up ash, Sara brought a devastating right hook down on his jaw.

Crunch.

Vajr's face slammed violently into the earth. He groaned, desperately trying to push himself up through the dirt, but Sara simply grabbed him by the hair and drove his face back into the ground with a sickening, definitive thud. Within seconds, a dark pool of crimson began to spread from his fractured skull.

Silence fell over that side of the battlefield.

But Kael wasn't finished. He whipped his gaze toward the trench, only to find the spirit's presence completely gone from the crater.

Suddenly, the space directly behind Kael's head warped, the air rippling like disturbed water. A lethal, high-velocity fist materialized from the void, aiming to execute him from his blind spot.

Kael didn't flinch. A deep, vibrating laugh echoed from the depths of his chest.

"Teleportation..."Kael muttered, his voice dropping an octave as his expanded consciousness read the spatial shift and the spirit's intent before the distortion even localized.

The spirit's fist struck empty air.

What?! the spirit thought, its spectral eyes widening in horror as Kael's physical mass simply vanished into thin air.

Fwip.

Space distorted directly behind the spirit.

"You..." the spirit gasped, a sudden, paralyzing realization striking its core right before the blow landed. "You can teleport?!"

Kael materialized out of the ether, his armored fist already in a devastating downward motion. The abyssal energy wrapped around his arm exploded upon contact, driving the spirit face-first into the cratered earth with enough force to cause a minor tremor.

Slowly, Kael stepped forward, his heavy boot pinning the paralyzed, flickering entity firmly to the ground. He looked down, his mismatched eyes burning with the absolute, detached cruelty of a dark deity looking at an insect.

"You opened the cage," Kael whispered, the dual resonance of his voice sending a mortal chill into the very soul of his enemy. "Did you really think you could dictate terms to what stepped out?"

Then, the final remnant of his humanity vanished.

Kael's remaining golden eye didn't just change—the abyssal purple was violently consumed as both eyes turned into a pitch-black, bottomless void that seemed to actively suck the light out of the sky.

Kael took a single step forward.

And for the first time since its creation, the immortal spirit, trembling under the weight of an apex predator, began to frantically crawl backward in absolute, unadulterated terror.

Whoosh!
