Chapter 29 - [29] : [BONUS] - Megumi Kato? When Did She Get Here?

~ Thank you, We've hit 200 Powerstones. This is the Bonus Chapter

--------------------------------------------------

Other people might not know, but Kai knew perfectly well.

Hana Yurikawa possessed a special kind of power. This energy protected her from being harmed by the supernatural, but at the same time, it massively accelerated her body's calorie consumption.

And the only way for her to replenish that spent energy was to constantly eat.

That was exactly why Hana was always hungry and could eat endlessly without ever gaining a single pound. Whatever she consumed was burned off almost immediately—it was literally impossible for her to get fat.

Originally, Kai had planned to escort both Hana and Miko home.

However, Hana generously waved him off. "It's totally fine! We live super close anyway, so I can just walk Miko home myself."

Under Miko's deeply resentful glare, Hana let out a triumphant, smug laugh.

"Alright then."

Seeing this unfold, Kai chuckled and gently pulled Miko toward him. He lightly tilted her chin up. Compared to the first time, Miko was noticeably much bolder now.

"Woo-hoo!"

This sudden display of PDA caught Hana completely off guard. She quickly slapped her hands over her eyes. Though, to be fair, the gaps between her fingers were entirely too wide to actually block anything.

"We still have plenty of time," Kai murmured.

"Mhm!"

Hearing his words, Miko smiled sweetly and gave a soft nod before hopping onto the train with Hana.

"You're so bold, Miko!" On the train, Hana couldn't help but tease her friend.

"..."

"Oh, come on, don't be mad!"

Hana might have been a bit of an airhead, but she wasn't a total idiot. Seeing the absolute resentment radiating from Miko's face, she could easily guess exactly what her friend was thinking.

She laughed and threw an arm around Miko's shoulders.

"I was just curious! It's your fault for not telling me about your boyfriend earlier. And here I was, treating you like my best friend, only to find out you've been hiding a whole boyfriend from me."

"Well, you know now, don't you?"

"Hehe! You really have great taste, Miko. I think Kai-kun is a great catch. Keep it up! I can't wait to attend your wedding."

"W-WEDDING?? THAT'S WAY TOO FAR IN THE FUTURE! STOP SAYING SUCH STUPID THINGS!"

She said that, but... imagining what life would be like married to Kai made it absolutely impossible for Miko to hide the brilliant smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

————————————————————

Meanwhile.

Back at the station, after watching Miko and Hana board the train, Kai had originally planned to head home himself.

He stretched his stiff joints. But the absolute second he turned around, he spotted Megumi Kato standing just a short distance away. He had no idea how long she had been there.

"Hmm?"

He paused mid-stretch. When did she get there? Did she see everything that just happened?

He raised a single brow. Without a single trace of panic on his face, he simply let out an amused chuckle and strolled right over to her with complete confidence.

"..."

Megumi pursed her lips slightly, but she made no move to leave.

In reality, Megumi, who had been waiting for the train for a while, hadn't expected to bump into Kai here either. She had originally wanted to say hello. After all, she held a highly specific, unique impression of the only boy who always managed to actually notice her.

But in the very next moment, she had seen Miko Yotsuya and Hana Yurikawa walking right alongside him.

And when one of the girls left, she shared an incredibly intimate moment with Kai. That level of PDA was glaringly obvious—they were definitely a couple. But wait... wasn't Kai's girlfriend supposed to be Yui Yuigahama from their class?

Is he two-timing?

Realizing exactly what she had just witnessed, Megumi suddenly found herself praying that Kai hadn't noticed her standing there.

Besides, even if he did spot her, surely he would act at least a little bit guilty, right? She absolutely never expected him to just casually stroll right up to her without a care in the world.

"Good evening, Kato-san."

"..."

Is he really not feeling a single ounce of guilt? Staring at Kai's completely natural, unabashed smile, Megumi gave a soft nod. "Good evening."

"Didn't expect to run into you at this hour. Are you out running errands?" Catching sight of the shopping bags in her hands, Kai asked curiously.

"Yeah, we were running low on groceries, so my mom asked me to make a quick trip."

Their back-and-forth was incredibly casual and harmonious. But the bizarre, twisted sense of dissonance in Megumi's heart was only growing stronger. Did she completely misunderstand the situation? Unable to suppress her burning curiosity, Megumi finally just asked.

"That girl from just now was...?"

"Oh, her name is Miko Yotsuya. She's my girlfriend."

"..."

He just admitted it that easily?? Even with Megumi's chronically deadpan expression, her eyes couldn't help but blow wide open in shock.

"Then what about Yuigahama-san from our class?"

"Yeah, she's my girlfriend too."

"..."

'Are you seriously just shamelessly admitting all of this without missing a single beat?' Furthermore, he answered with such absolute, unwavering confidence that it genuinely made Megumi feel like she was the one with the problem here.

"So, Kai-kun, you're a cheating scumbag who's two-timing them?"

"Not quite."

"..."

So it was a misunderstanding? She had just breathed a tiny sigh of relief internally, but in the very next second...

"I'm actually three-timing. There's an underclassman named Hitori Gotoh—she's also my girlfriend."

Of course, that was only the current tally. There would undoubtedly be more in the future.

"..."

Regardless of what kind of mental short-circuit Megumi was experiencing, Kai just casually continued.

"Hitori is an incredibly cute girl too. I'll have to introduce you guys when the opportunity arises. Who knows, you might even become good friends."

Watching Kai enthusiastically offer to introduce her to his other girlfriend like it was the most normal thing in the world, Megumi had to take a deep breath to recalibrate her sanity.

After hesitating for a moment, she slowly spoke.

"Aren't you the least bit worried that I might go tell Yuigahama-san about this, Kai-kun?"

Is being an unapologetic scumbag really this normalized nowadays? Shouldn't he feel at least a tiny shred of guilt? His absolute lack of shame was genuinely making her question her own common sense.

"So, are you going to tell her, Kato-san?"

Looking at Megumi's flabbergasted expression, Kai suddenly chuckled. He leaned in closer, his gaze locking dead onto her eyes.

"Y-You're way too close." The sudden proximity made Megumi take an unnatural half-step back.

"You still haven't answered my question, Kato-san. Are you going to spill my secret?"

"...NO."

After a long moment of silence, Megumi finally squeezed out the word.

It wasn't that she approved of Kai's blatant scumbag behavior—it was purely because Megumi simply wasn't the type of person to go around gossiping about other people's business.
