# Chapter 7: The Hunter's Harvest
The forest was quiet again.
After the intense battle from earlier, the night air felt colder. The moon hung high above the trees, casting pale light across the ground.
Ronan stood still for a moment.
Around him lay several goblin corpses.
The fight had been messy, but he had survived.
His breathing slowly returned to normal.
Then the familiar blue light appeared in front of him.
**[Goblin defeated]**
**[+50 XP]**
Another window followed.
**[Current XP: 210 / 400]**
Ronan wiped the blade of his dagger against the grass.
His shoulder still hurt from the earlier cut, but the wound wasn't deep.
"Level three already feels different," he muttered quietly.
His reactions were faster.
His strength had improved slightly.
But more importantly—
His mind was calmer.
During the awakening ceremony, everyone had looked at him with pity or disappointment.
Now none of that mattered.
Because here in the forest…
Only strength mattered.
And Ronan was slowly gaining it.
---
### A Strange Thought
Ronan crouched beside one of the goblin bodies.
He examined it carefully.
Hunters at the academy often talked about something called **monster materials**.
Fangs.
Bones.
Claws.
Organs.
These things were valuable.
Merchants bought them to create potions, weapons, and magical items.
At the time Ronan had never cared.
After all, he had never imagined himself fighting monsters.
But now things were different.
Ronan pulled a small knife from his belt.
Then he carefully cut open the goblin's chest.
After a moment he removed a dark red organ.
The goblin's heart.
It was smaller than a human heart, but it still pulsed faintly with residual mana.
Ronan studied it with interest.
"So this is what hunters sell…"
He wrapped it in cloth and placed it inside his small bag.
Then he repeated the process with the other goblins.
Soon he had collected **four goblin hearts**.
The smell was unpleasant.
But Ronan ignored it.
"These should be worth something."
He stood up and looked deeper into the forest.
The night was far from over.
---
### Another Encounter
Ronan continued walking through the trees.
His footsteps were quiet.
The forest seemed peaceful again.
But Ronan had already learned something important.
Peace in this place never lasted long.
Sure enough—
A rustling sound came from the bushes ahead.
Ronan stopped immediately.
His eyes narrowed.
Then two figures stepped out.
Goblins.
He focused his gaze.
**[Goblin – Level 2]**
**[Goblin – Level 3]**
Ronan exhaled slowly.
"Manageable."
The goblins noticed him.
Their ugly faces twisted into cruel smiles.
"SKREE!"
They rushed forward.
Ronan stepped to the side.
The first goblin attacked wildly.
Ronan dodged easily.
Slash.
His dagger cut across its chest.
The goblin screamed.
But the second goblin attacked from behind.
Ronan felt the movement just in time.
He ducked.
The goblin's claws missed his neck by inches.
Ronan spun around.
THUD.
His foot slammed into the creature's stomach.
The goblin staggered backward.
Then Ronan lunged forward.
His dagger pierced the goblin's throat.
The creature collapsed instantly.
**[Goblin defeated]**
**[+50 XP]**
The remaining goblin hesitated.
Fear flashed in its yellow eyes.
Then it tried to run.
Ronan didn't let it escape.
He rushed forward and stabbed it in the back.
The goblin fell.
**[Goblin defeated]**
**[+50 XP]**
Ronan wiped his dagger again.
Two more kills.
Two more hearts.
But then—
Something unexpected happened.
A brighter system message appeared.
---
**[Item Drop Detected]**
---
Ronan blinked in surprise.
"An item?"
He searched the goblin's body carefully.
After a moment he found something.
A pair of worn leather boots.
They looked ordinary at first.
But when Ronan touched them—
A system window appeared.
---
**[Goblin Boots – Uncommon Item]**
Effects:
+4 Agility
---
Ronan's eyes widened slightly.
"Uncommon…"
That sounded rare.
He immediately removed his old shoes and put on the goblin boots.
The moment he stood up—
He felt lighter.
His steps were faster.
His body reacted quicker.
Ronan smiled faintly.
"So monsters can drop equipment too…"
This discovery changed everything.
If stronger monsters dropped stronger items…
Then hunting wasn't just about experience.
It was also about equipment.
And equipment meant power.
---
### A Hunter's Realization
Ronan sat down on a fallen tree for a moment.
He opened his system window.
---
**Name:** Ronan
**Level:** 3
**Ability:** Assimilation (Unique)
**Equipment:**
Goblin Ring
+2 Strength
+1 Agility
Goblin Boots (Uncommon)
+4 Agility
XP: 310 / 400
---
Ronan studied the information carefully.
His agility had increased significantly.
That explained why his movements felt faster.
But something else caught his attention.
"Items…"
If goblins could drop equipment…
Then deeper in the forest, stronger monsters probably dropped even better ones.
Weapons.
Armor.
Rings.
Artifacts.
But Ronan also knew something else.
His small bag wouldn't be enough.
Right now it only contained:
* Goblin hearts
* Basic supplies
* A few monster parts
If he hunted larger creatures later…
Carrying everything would become impossible.
Ronan frowned slightly.
"I need better storage."
Then he remembered something from the academy.
Some awakened hunters used special items called **storage rings**.
Rings that could store objects in a small dimensional space.
They were extremely expensive.
But incredibly useful.
Ronan looked down at the goblin ring on his finger.
"One day…"
He would buy one.
Not now.
But soon.
Very soon.
---
### The Night Continues
Ronan stood up again.
The forest stretched endlessly before him.
Somewhere in that darkness were stronger monsters.
Better loot.
Greater challenges.
Ronan tightened his grip on his dagger.
His eyes were calm.
Determined.
Tonight he had learned several important things.
Monsters gave experience.
Monsters gave power through assimilation.
And sometimes—
They even gave equipment.
For Ronan, that meant one thing.
The forest was no longer just a dangerous place.
It was an opportunity.
A place where the weak boy from the academy could transform into something stronger.
Much stronger.
Ronan stepped forward into the darkness.
The hunt would continue.
And with every monster he defeated…
He would move one step closer to the future he wanted.
A future where no one would ever look down on him again.
