Freya's POV
Break time was always noisy.
Students flooded the hallways like a wave breaking loose from the classrooms. Laughter echoed, lockers slammed, and the cafeteria line stretched halfway down the corridor.
But I wasn't paying attention to any of that.
My eyes were fixed on one person.
Jayjay.
She was sitting at one of the outdoor benches near the courtyard, lazily spinning a pen between her fingers while Ci-N and Rakki argued about something ridiculous beside her.
She looked relaxed.
Too relaxed.
Like nothing in this school could ever touch her.
My jaw tightened.
Across from me, Matilda slammed her juice box onto the table.
"I can't stand her," she muttered.
I glanced at her.
That wasn't new.
Matilda had been furious ever since the day Jay almost strangled her in the hallway.
But lately…
It had gotten worse.
Her eyes burned whenever Jay was around.
And honestly?
I understood why.
Matilda followed my gaze toward the courtyard.
Jay laughed at something Ci-N said.
And at the same moment…
Keifer walked past them.
He slowed down.
Just slightly.
But he still looked at her.
Matilda noticed it too.
Her fingers curled into fists.
"Did you see that?" she whispered sharply.
I sighed.
"Yes."
"He looked at her."
"Yes, Matilda."
Her voice lowered.
"That should be me."
For a moment she said nothing else.
Then she leaned closer to me.
"I'm going to destroy her reputation."
I raised an eyebrow.
"That's dramatic."
"I'm serious."
Her eyes were cold now.
"She embarrassed me in front of the whole school. She put her hands on me."
She looked back at Jay again.
"And now she acts like nothing happened."
I tapped my fingers on the table thoughtfully.
Jay really did act like nothing bothered her.
Even after the suspension incident.
Even after all the whispers.
Even after—
My mind flashed back to the gym storage room.
The day I locked her in there.
A mistake.
I had expected Jay to panic.
Maybe scream.
Maybe beg someone to open the door.
Instead…
She ended up inside with Keifer.
And after that day…
Something between them changed.
Matilda noticed it too.
Which was exactly why she was losing her mind right now.
"So," Matilda said impatiently. "Are you going to help me or not?"
I looked back at Jay again.
She leaned back in the chair, completely carefree.
That confidence.
That calm.
It annoyed me.
Just a little.
I leaned forward.
"Fine."
Matilda's eyes lit up.
"You have a plan?"
A slow smile spread across my face.
"Maybe."
"Tell me."
I lowered my voice.
"You said you want to disgrace her, right?"
"Yes."
"In front of the whole school."
Her smile widened.
"Exactly."
I leaned closer.
Then whispered the idea.
Matilda's eyes slowly grew bigger.
Then she started laughing quietly.
"Oh… that's perfect."
I leaned back in my chair.
"It will spread through the entire school."
Matilda nodded eagerly.
"And once everyone sees it…"
She looked toward Jay again.
"…her perfect image will collapse."
Across the courtyard, Jay suddenly stood up.
She stretched her arms lazily and started walking toward the cafeteria with Ci-N and Rakki.
Still smiling.
Still calm.
Still untouchable.
Matilda's voice turned icy beside me.
"Enjoy your break while you can, Jayjay."
Her nails dug into the table.
"Because very soon…"
She smirked.
"…the whole school will be laughing at you."
I watched Jay disappear into the crowd of students.
And for a moment…
I wondered.
Would she still look that confident…
After our little plan worked?
