Chapter 38 - Chapter 36: Not Fine

Keifer's POV

Something was wrong.

I noticed it the moment Jay walked into the classroom.

Usually when she entered, the room became louder. Felix would start teasing her, Ci-N would add something ridiculous, and Jay would fire back without missing a beat.

It was almost routine.

But today…

She didn't.

Felix had called her "lap pillow."

Ci-N had demanded the "sequel."

Normally Jay would've thrown a book at them.

Instead…

She just sat down.

Quietly.

Now she was resting her head on her hand, staring down at her desk while Madam Cindy explained something about literature.

Her face looked pale.

And she kept pressing her fingers against her temple like her head hurt.

Felix leaned over to Ci-N and whispered,

"She's broken."

Ci-N whispered back,

"Should we restart her?"

Calix kicked Ci-N's chair lightly.

"Shut up."

I said.

I watched Jay again.

She hadn't written anything in her notebook.

Not a single word.

Madam Cindy continued talking.

"Now, class, this passage demonstrates—"

Jay suddenly shifted in her seat.

Her hand pressed harder against her forehead.

Her eyes closed briefly.

Then she slowly stood up.

Madam Cindy paused.

"Yes, Jay?"

"I… need some air," she said quietly.

The moment she stood, she swayed slightly.

Felix sat up straight.

"Whoa."

Jay took one step.

Then another.

Her vision clearly wasn't steady.

I was already standing before I realized it.

She reached the aisle.

Then suddenly—

Her balance slipped.

"Jay."

Before she could fall, I caught her arm.

Her body leaned slightly against me.

For a second she looked confused, like the room was spinning.

Felix jumped up from his chair.

"Hey, are you okay?"

Ci-N stood too.

"Jay?"

Madam Cindy hurried over.

"What's going on?"

Jay blinked a few times, clearly trying to focus.

"I'm fine," she muttered.

I didn't let go of her arm.

"You're not."

She immediately frowned at me.

"Mind your own business, Watson."

Even now she was stubborn.

I sighed.

"Sit down."

"I said I'm fine."

She tried to pull her arm away, but the moment she took another step she almost lost balance again.

Yuri moved closer instantly.

"Okay yeah, she's definitely not fine."

Felix pointed dramatically.

"I knew it!"

Ci-N nodded.

"She's glitching."

Madam Cindy frowned.

"Jay, go to the clinic."

"I don't need the clinic."

"You almost fainted."

"I slipped."

"You didn't slip," Felix said.

"You wobbled."

"Shut up."

Madam Cindy looked at me.

"Keifer, take her to the clinic."

Jay immediately protested.

"No."

Madam Cindy crossed her arms.

"That wasn't a suggestion."

Jay groaned quietly.

I looked at her.

"You're going."

She glared at me.

"You're enjoying this."

"Not really."

She sighed dramatically.

"Fine."

I walked with her toward the door.

Felix called out behind us.

"Keif!"

I didn't turn around.

"Yes?"

"Don't drop her!"

Ci-N added loudly,

"Protect the lap pillow!"

The class burst into laughter again.

Jay muttered under her breath,

"I hate them."

I opened the door.

As we stepped into the hallway, I noticed something strange.

Someone standing near the lockers.

Watching us.

It was the new girl.

Mila.

Her expression looked… worried.

Like she had seen something she recognized.

And that was strange.

Because the way she was looking at Jay…

It wasn't like she was watching a classmate.

It was like she was remembering something.

Something from long ago.
