Chapter 2 - The Full Deck

The heavy silence following Merlin and Jisoo's first meeting didn't last long. The studio doors hissed open again, drawing every camera lens toward the entrance.

A man stepped into the light, dressed in a sharp white suit that made him look like a statue carved from marble.

Leon Vega. Known as the "Ice Prince," Leon didn't offer a smile or a wave. He walked with a calm, almost haunting elegance, his dark hair perfectly styled to frame a face that rarely betrayed a single emotion. He scanned the semicircle of chairs. His eyes flicked over Jisoo—a silent, sharp acknowledgement—and then settled on Merlin.

For a moment, his steady pace faltered. It was barely a second, a flicker of something unreadable in his gaze, but it was enough to make Merlin's heart skip a beat. She didn't realize it yet, but in a room full of the world's most beautiful people, Leon's focus had already narrowed down to her.

The quiet tension broke as the rest of the contestants began to arrive, filling the room with a sudden, overwhelming surge of energy.

"Wow… this place is incredible!"

Luna Parkskipped in, her long brown hair bouncing with every step. She was the "Mood-Maker," and she lived up to the title instantly, waving at everyone with a wide, bright smile. "Hello! I guess we're all in this experiment together, right?"

Merlin gave her a small, relieved smile. "It looks like it."

Behind Luna, the atmosphere shifted to something more refined. Tara Novak entered with a quiet, poetic grace, nodding politely to the group before taking her seat. Then came Kiara Rossi, whose heels clicked against the floor with the authority of a woman who knew she was the main character of any room she entered.

The doors opened once more for Aria Moon. She walked with an untouchable aura, her long dark hair falling over her shoulders like silk. She was followed by the soft-featured Kaito Nakamuraand the intense, brooding Yuri Volkov, who sat down without a word. Finally, Minho Park sauntered in, a playful smirk dancing on his lips.

"Looks like the competition is serious already," Minho joked, scanning the group.

Luna laughed, though her eyes were curious. "Competition? I thought this was about finding love!"

Minho raised an eyebrow, his voice dropping an octave. "In this industry, Luna? Love is a competition. And tonight, we're all playing."

Suddenly, the giant screen behind them hummed to life. The Host appeared—a shadowed figure with a welcoming, yet mysterious, voice.

"Welcome to The Idol Love Experiment," the voice boomed. "You have been invited here for one reason: To find love. For the next thirty days, you will live together in one mansion. No managers. No companies. No rules."

A faint murmur broke out. No managers? In the idol world, that was unheard of. It meant they were completely vulnerable.

"This experiment will test your hearts… and your honesty," the Host continued. The screen shifted, revealing The Orchid Mansion—a breathtaking palace of glass and gardens. "This is your home. But remember: someone's heart is bound to break before the month is over."

Merlin stared at the screen, her mind racing. Thirty days with nine strangers, all while the world watched.

Across the room, Leon's gaze quietly drifted back to Merlin. He didn't look away this time. His eyes were heavy with a silent, focused interest.

Aria Moon noticed the look. She watched Leon, then Merlin, her expression turning thoughtful, as if she were solving a puzzle.

Even Jisoo, usually the most composed person in the room, felt a sudden, sharp spike of tension. He saw Leon watching Merlin, and for the first time that night, his confident mask slipped. He shifted in his seat, his gaze hardening.

The cameras caught it all—the lingering looks, the subtle shifts in posture, and the silent sparks of a rivalry that hadn't even been declared yet.

The experiment hadn't just begun. The first battle lines were already being drawn.
