Normal POV
'Well...this wasn't good,' Nanami thought to himself while placing his phone down. After bringing Yuji back into the house. He had gone to see what his contact had sent him regarding the kid's background that a normal search wouldn't have been able to find.
Turns out there really was a good reason why Yuji turned out to be so special.
He picked the phone back up and read the message again.
His contact a former Clocktower archivist who had left the institution under circumstances neither of them discussed and now ran a remarkably effective private research operation out of somewhere in Tokyo had been very thorough. She always was and he paid her well specifically because she was thorough.
Nanami removed his glasses pressing two fingers against the bridge of his nose and began processing everything in order.
The maternal line first.
Yuji's mother was partially human, partially an Oni with a bloodline lineage that went far back to the Heian period much like his own family line.
It wasn't a minor lineage or a diluted trace-ancestry that occasionally surfaced in civilian populations near old shrine sites but rather a direct line.
A line connected to the mythological four-armed imaginary demon Ryomen Sukuna.
The very same person? Or was it a thing? That he saw an outline of in Yuji's mana core.
Nanami looked up at the ceiling.
'Of course,' he thought with exhausted resignation, 'of course it all makes sense as to why Yuji has a mana core and a pair of mystic eyes. This alone just makes him another great 'specimen' for magi to just tear right into if they ever found out."
The special trait technique belonging to Ryomen Sukuna which had reportedly, made him a destructive calamity. Had apparently never once manifested in any of his descendants across the entire span of recorded history.
Centuries of diluted Oni blood producing strong bodies, different abilities, and occasionally blessed with beyond the normal enhanced physical capability, but never the original technique itself.
That is...until now.
Well not yet but perhaps eventually in the future Itadori Yuji would awaken Ryomen Sukuna's legendary Shrine trait.
Not because of his lineage because then other members of that line should have been able to awaken the trait. No someone had done something to enable it.
The paternal line.
Nanami read that section twice.
Then a third time.
His contact had flagged it with a notation that read, 'this individual appears in records across multiple centuries under different names and faces. I have attached the cross-referenced sightings. You'll want to sit down for this section Kento.'
Good thing he was already sitting down then.
The father was not an ordinary man in any conventional sense.
He was well known body-hopper that had learned to somehow transplant himself into new physical vessels through unknown given means.
Kenjaku an old dead apostle who was said to be even older than the 2nd True Magician, Kischur Zelretch.
Although he was never given the title of an apostle ancestor.
The report further noted that Kenjaku had at some point prior to the events in question, acquired several objects of extraordinary magical significance.
The 20 fingers of Ryomen Sukuna, sealed and preserved with an incredible amount of mystery for each one. They were items that the magical community had largely dismissed as legend or had been actively discouraged from investigating by parties who apparently knew better.
The goal, as best as Nanami's contact could hypothesize had been the construction of a vessel.
A perfect body.
A being capable of containing not just the Dead Apostle's consciousness but the full accumulated potential of Sukuna's sealed remnants, the Oni bloodline, and the Dead Apostle's own considerable power simultaneously.
The result had led to the creation of Itadori Yuji.
With the fingers still missing to this day it's possible that they might have been sealed within Yuji at an even younger age then 7 possible even at birth.
The mother Kaori Itadori had apparently discovered what her husband had done and what he had intended.
The report was sparse on the details of her reaction but the outcome was documented. She had taken the infant to her father Itadori Wasuke then went back to deal with Kenjaku herself.
A small chunk of Sendai was destroyed in their fight but in the end neither parent had survived the encounter with the other while the incident itself was labeled a gas leak explosion.
Wasuke Itadori meanwhile moved himself and his grandson to Fuyuki City, from there the rest was practically history.
Nanami set the phone down again 'the blood manipulation skill must have Yuji's instinctive trait ability as an Oni then. He wasn't capable of doing that before either. So I can logically assume that night when he was kidnapped by Caster it must have been triggered somehow,' he thought while leaning back against his chair.
'To top it all off if my earlier prediction about the fingers having been sealed in him is true...then it's also possible that Sukuna's magical power may influence and further change Yuji like it did in our spar. The fingers were probably in a state of dormancy until the kid unlocked his Oni power and have only just begun waking up. T-There's even a slight chance he could be overwritten into thinking he is 'Sukuna.' himself,' Nanami worriedly thought to himself.
Despite it only being one day the man had already found himself attached to his new ward.
'Ring-Ring!'
His phone abruptly began ringing.
Nanami looked at the screen.
The name on it was his direct superior at the FCPD. The man had the particular quality of someone who felt genuinely bad about the things he was about to ask you to do and did them anyway, which Nanami had always found more tolerable than the alternative.
He answered.
"Yo Kento," his superior's voice had the texture of someone who had also not slept, "I know you called off today."
"You're recalling me," Nanami bluntly called out.
A pause that confirmed it before the words did, "sigh...yeah we've got four new missing persons reports filed this morning. Children, same age bracket range as the others. And two more adult bodies turned up near the waterfront about an hour ago," an awkward pause, "look I wouldn't pull you back in if-"
"I'll be there ASAP," Nanami cut him off.
He ended the call and stood up with a very pissed off look on his face.
Kotomine Risei still hadn't done anything about the Caster servant and no doubt neither of the other masters have acted either.
.
.
.
The note took him three drafts.
The first was too sparse. The second explained too much about where he was going and why, which a seven-year-old didn't need to know about. The third was at least functional.
He left it on the bedside table beside the kid's notebook, weighted down with the spare key he'd retrieved from the kitchen shelf.
The note read as.
Yuji.
'I've been recalled to work. There have been some new developments that require my immediate attention.'
'Please stay inside the house. Do not leave unless there is a genuine emergency. If you need to leave, the key beside this note opens and locks the front door - keep it on your person.'
'In the refrigerator you will find enough food for today. Do not under any circumstances use the stove.'
'Tomorrow you will be re-enrolled in a new school. I have already begun making the necessary arrangements. I expect you to take it seriously. Furthermore, your training will continue on the weekends from now on.'
'If anything urgent happens the number to reach me is written on the back of this note.'
Signed Nanami Kento.
He looked at it for a moment.
Then he picked up the pen and added below his name, in slightly smaller writing:
'When you wake up you should eat lunch.'
He set the pen down before he could add anything else.
After that he went and adjusted the curtains to make sure the afternoon light wasn't landing directly on the boy's face.
Once that was done, he went ahead to his own room where he proceeded to open a small black safe box that he kept hidden in his closet.
Unlocking it after a second Nanami pulled out two things.
A pair of goggle looking like glasses and a pair of kitchen cleavers wrapped in white cloth that had black dotted patterns on it.
"I haven't used these in a long time...but just in case," he muttered sheathing both weapons on his back before wearing his suit jacket to conceal them.
The goggles were placed in the left inner breast pocket of his jacket.
Once he was all prepped Nanami Kento left for work.
-end of chapter thirteen-
Alright we will now be jumping back into the plot of Fate/Zero after this chapter. Comments, Reviews, and Stones greatly boost my motivation (reviews are awesome to, if you leave a negative review though please try not to be so harsh. I think my heart would just break if you do lmao)
Also just want to confirm that Artoria will be the love interest because this Yuji has to get his love for blonds who are 'tall' at the time somehow.
