Chapter 16 - Truth

After Kai retrieved Slayer and flew her over, Sunny led the three of them to the Ash Castle. If he remembered correctly, it should have been near the main vent of the volcano, and it was.

The Ash Castle seemed like it was hovering in the area. A large gap separates the land surrounding it. It seemed like it was floating above an abyss.

Sunny and the group crossed it like the last time, with Sunny throwing Slayer over and then summoning wings himself. Kai flew over as well. Albeit absent-minded.

It seemed like he was in a great deal of thought. Just this morning, he was in bed, and now he was travelling with a Supreme. Not just any Supreme at that, but a new one that came out of nowhere.

They were going to Ash Castle for a simple reason. At the start of the Death Game, there were two figures of the snow beast. Sunny was extremely happy. Unlike the last time he wouldn't waste his first truth. Although it did shed light that it was actually Ariel and Weaver playing the Death Game, it would have become obvious later on.

There were cursed beings everywhere here, and the Moth who had cut a deal with Weaver as well. It would become apparent that Weaver was here. Then it was also obvious that Ariel was here because he had created the damn thing. Speaking of the Moth. Sunny had to get the Shadow Condemnation before he left, since it was important for this battle.

It was quite easy. He killed it in the same manner Anvil did, letting the obliterating rays kill the abomination.

Walking through the castle, Sunny saw the same large pit. Then he looked over at the ash covering the floor. Sweeping his hand past it, a figurine revealed itself.

"Figurines? Why are they here?" Kai asked.

"They represent the abominations the Ash domain defeated. As such, you receive these once you defeat your enemies. They each giv-"

That's when Sunny froze. They each give a truth. Sunny wondered. What were the bounds of each of these truths? Just how powerful were they? Would someone who threw a truth into a pit and asked about Sunny what they would see?

Maybe they would be able to see. Only to forget it a moment later, or just maybe...

Sunny started to feel a headache. If what he was thinking was true, then it might've been better to bring Cassie instead. As she was someone who had lost too many memories.

"Kai, do you want to know what these figurines do?" Sunny asked.

Tenatively, Kai answered, "Sure, I'm guessing that's one of the reasons why we're here, right?"

"Indeed, this is actually one of the reasons. The figurines are given every time you defeat an enemy. They represent a truth. Any question you have, it'll answer." Sunny said.

Sunny tossed a figurine to Kai.

"Use one. Ask about me. Specifically, my past." Sunny said.

Kai caught it. Bewildered, he was about to ask why he was given something so precious but remembered the situation he was in. It wouldn't be a good idea to pass up knowledge of the unknown Supreme.

Kai knew, given the circumstances, he shouldn't toss up the chance to know more. It also sounded like there weren't many of these to begin with. If he gave up this opportunity, he would regret it for a lifetime.

"Alright, I'll do it. How do I claim my truth?" Kai asked.

"Simple, really. You think of the question in your mind and then toss it in." Sunny said.

Kai walked over to the pit. Sunny had always wondered how he looked when he was claiming truths. Now he would know.

Kai stood over the pit for a moment. His hands wrapped tightly around the figurine. Taking a deep breath, he tossed the figurine into the pit.

****

Kai found himself somewhere else. It was starting to get dizzying. Everything was happening so fast. Travelling with an unknown Supreme and his shadow. That Slayer cast a murderous gaze wherever she looked, which was kind of scary.

Kai looked around. It was dark and narrow. A small pit, maybe a well? That's when he saw himself.

Shocked, Kai looked at himself in a battered state. He looked like he had spent weeks in this pathetic state. If he remembered correctly, it was when those thugs had tossed him in the well and sealed the top.

What does this have to mean? If Kai remembered correctly, he left after, after -

"Wait, how exactly did I leave again?" Kai thought.

Kai stared at himself, specifically the memory one. That's when both Kai's heard footsteps approaching the well in the darkness.

The memory Kai spoke.

"Ah, a guest." Waiting a moment, the conjured Kai spoke.

"How wonderful. I haven't been fed in a long, long time..." Kai said again.

Yes, Kai remembered now he was going hungry again, and it was time for those fools who had put him in here to give him a meal.

But it wasn't them.

Kai's voice echoed throughout the well. For some reason, the response took a while to come back.

Then a response came.

"It's... nice to meet you."

It was certainly an interesting reply, but the one who was shocked was Kai, who was watching the memory. For some reason, that voice sounded eerily similar to the Supreme who was currently with Kai.

Watching the memory play out, although hilarious, Kai was dumbfounded. The interaction between Sunny and Kai was incredibly important as it lead him down an intense path for many years.

"How could I forget such a moment?" Kai thought.

It was then that the memory changed. Though this time it wasn't a singler memory.

It came as a rush flowing all around like thousands of screens each playing a different memory. The sight was magnificent, although Kai couldn't exactly enjoy.

There were so many memories that it nearly overloaded Kai, but at the same time, it was his memories. Oddly enough, they were flowing into missing parts of memories like puzzle pieces, finally connecting after a long time.

The satisfaction was immense, and Kai's memories became whole again.

It was so strange but felt so right. That strange sense that he was missing something had finally taken away.

Kai and the entire cohort knew they were missing memories. They could feel it, but what they didn't realise was that they could only figure out they were missing memories because it was such a large chunk.

Although they were missing memories from the third nightmare, they were missing much, much more memories. That is why the gap feels so much more noticeable. That's why no one else realised they were missing memories.

Because they didn't spend too much time with Sunny.

It was intense. Reeling in from those memories, it took Kai a second to find himself standing before the pit.

It was strange. The truth also changed how he viewed the last few months as well. Those memories were of ones him and cohort talking about the events of the third nightmare. What shocked him was how they just talked about someone who would have saved them as if it was fine that this 'someone' was okay with being nameless.

Then they would immediately continue the conversation as if they had never said something odd. How could something like this happen?

Snapping back to reality, Kai looked around.

"Sunny!" Kai looked back at his friend and ran towards him, grabbing him in a hug.

"What the hell happened? Why did we all forget about you?" Although these questions weren't aimed at how Sunny achieved supremacy, in that moment, Kai cared more about what happened to his friend.
