Chapter 11: A Well-Matched Opponent

"..."

Su Han said, "Lumine, do you have confidence in driving off the Stormterror? If not, I think it's time we start thinking about how to write our wills."

Amber tried to reassure him: "Mr. Su Han, don't say such defeatist things. Stormterror probably doesn't have the intention to deliberately exterminate us."

"If you get too scared to fly," Su Han continued, his voice calm but confident, "just hold my hand. I am Mondstadt City's flight champion—I will protect you."

Lumine had wanted to assure him she was fully capable of facing the dragon, but upon seeing the scene before her, she could only shake her head silently: "I… really can't do anything about it."

Paimon piped up: "Well… maybe we can try negotiating with Stormterror? It hasn't attacked yet—maybe it's just wary of us."

With that, Paimon poked her little head out from behind Su Han and shyly waved at the dragon. "H-hi… I'm Paimon."

The moment the words left her lips, Stormterror's pupils constricted sharply. Then it let out a mighty roar. The fierce Anemo energy in its mouth coalesced, compressed, and gradually formed into a glowing sphere radiating a dazzling aura.

Even Su Han could feel the terrifying aura of destruction emanating from it.

Th-this… this feels a lot like the legendary Destructive Gust Bomb…

Crap, crap, crap…

"Paimon, thanks a lot!"

"Uh… you're welcome?"

Lumine's face darkened. She gripped her blunt sword, ready to strike down the charging energy sphere—but then Su Han shouted out:

"Yes! I do have feelings for Amber and Lumine!"

"Amber is adorable—exactly my type. Her lips are soft, her waist is slender—I want to hold her in my arms every day and rub against her."

"Lumine is beautiful, too, her figure is perfect. She can be cold sometimes, but I dare not act on any special feelings."

"The main reason is that I can't beat her. If I could, I'd have to kick her in that perfect little butt when she's not paying attention. Hehe, just thinking about it is thrilling."

Amber: "???"

Lumine: "???"

Paimon: pft—

The dark-skinned noble youth laughed: "Hehe, this is quite entertaining."

[Congratulations! You have obtained (Blink Step – Beginner). Keep going, continue to improve! ( ̄ ̄)–⚹]

At the same moment, the Destructive Gust Bomb Stormterror had been gathering in its mouth was fully charged. With a tremendous force, it shot toward them.

In the next instant, Su Han grabbed both Amber's and Lumine's arms.

In the blink of an eye, the trio vanished, leaving only the whistling wind in their place.

As Stormterror hesitated in confusion, their silhouettes quietly appeared atop its back.

Amber and Lumine were both taken aback. They hadn't expected Su Han to have such a hidden trick up his sleeve.

Although Amber now felt shy and Lumine a mix of embarrassment and anger, passing up such a perfect opening would have been an insult to Su Han for creating the opportunity.

Lumine drew a deep breath, drawing in the dense Anemo energy around them. She skillfully compressed it, shaping it into a sword of pure wind.

Meanwhile, Amber's Pyro Vision flared at her waist. She focused, gritted her teeth, and slowly drew her bow.

The flame-tipped arrow shrieked through the air. With a sharp shhh, it plunged into the purple spike protruding from Stormterror's neck—alongside Lumine's sword.

Then, a towering pillar of fire erupted around the dragon's neck, blanketing the gloomy sky in a blaze.

Stormterror howled in pain. Its long tail lashed like a steel whip, tearing through the air, aimed directly at the trio atop its back.

Swish—

The strike hit nothing. In an instant, the three of them disappeared, only to reappear in front of Mondstadt's fountain plaza.

Stormterror paused, its eyes narrowing in complex scrutiny at Lumine before spreading its wings and flying off.

Paimon stared in shock for a moment, then jumped and cheered: "Hey… we defeated Stormterror!"

Su Han: "..."

Though the dragon had fled, the hurricane still cloaked Mondstadt.

Clap, clap, clap—

The dark-skinned noble youth with the pirate eye patch lightly applauded, strolling leisurely toward them.

"Not bad, not bad…"

"To think you have the strength to battle a dragon… are you our guests… or a new storm?"

Paimon crossed her tiny arms and scowled: "Hey, black-skinned pirate, who are you?"

The noble youth remained silent.

Amber: pft "That's Kaeya… Kaeya-senpai…"

"Cough cough, Kaeya, perfect timing. Stormterror has even started attacking within the city—we need to—"

Kaeya's gaze swept over them with an assessing glint. "Wait, Amber. It seems some introductions haven't been made yet."

Amber: "Uh, right. Please allow me to introduce everyone."

"This is Kaeya, our Cavalry Captain."

"Kaeya, these are travelers from afar. This is Lumine, this is Paimon, and this is—"

Su Han: "I'm Bennett, a perfectly ordinary adventurer."

Amber turned her head, laughing quietly. Pft, I knew it.

Kaeya suddenly understood: "Ah, so you're Bennett. When are you going to repay the one million Mora you owe me?"

Su Han: "?"

Damn it… I've met a worthy opponent.

Amber jumped in: "Uh, he likes to joke around… This is Mr. Su Han. You can just call him Su Han."

Kaeya chuckled: "Mr. Su Han, is it… Actually, I already know about you all from Bennett."

"It was because you discovered Stormterror wandering near Mondstadt that I ordered the Knights to strengthen city defenses."

Amber then briefly recounted the events she, Su Han, and their companions had experienced.

Lumine shot Su Han a glare: if not for him, we wouldn't have been treated as suspicious.

Kaeya nodded slightly: "I see. Please forgive my earlier rudeness. Welcome to Mondstadt—though unfortunately at such a terrible time…"

"I understand the pain of losing one's kin, Lumine."

"And though I don't know why you were seeking the Anemo Archon…"

"Everyone has their secrets, right? Haha, I won't pry."

"You too, Mr. Su Han."

"Since you seem to have… feelings for Mondstadt's beloved champions of justice, know that I support you morally."

Ignoring Amber's murderous glare, Kaeya gave Su Han a thumbs-up.

Just a bit more effort… let our scouting knights drown in love and neglect their duties…

"Anyway, on behalf of the Knights, I must thank you."

Lumine accepted Kaeya's thanks matter-of-factly and asked: "You're welcome… but what about a reward?"

Kaeya: "Hmm… Mondstadt-style honey-glazed carrot roast?"

Paimon: "Hey, we already heard that!"

Kaeya quietly shifted the topic: "The citizens you defended from Stormterror witnessed everything."

"The Acting Grand Master is very interested in you both. She hopes you can visit the Knights' headquarters for a proper discussion."
