"Still… Nen users treat their Nen ability like their trump card and don't show it to people easily. Roy, you're just showing it to us out in the open—are you sure that's okay?"
Gon kept asking in his usual wide-eyed, innocent way.
Roy smiled faintly. "It's fine. We're friends, aren't we?"
If Roy had some kind of "emotion system" on him right now, it would definitely pop up with two notification sounds.
Ding—Leorio's favorability toward you +999.
Ding—Kurapika's favorability toward you +999.
Gon was the type with thick nerves, and he'd already long since considered Roy a friend. Hearing that, he just grinned.
As for Kurapika and Leorio, the corners of their mouths also lifted slightly.
After all, having a Nen user tell you about their own ability was the most direct kind of trust.
"My Nen ability is called 'Gold Finger.' It has a very wide range of uses. Besides looking up information, it can also—"
Roy was getting into it, enthusiastically selling the idea, when Kurapika suddenly cut him off.
"Alright, Roy. You don't need to tell us your ability in that much detail."
Leorio nodded along. "Yeah. You don't have to deliberately explain everything right now. Maybe later, when you use it, we'll naturally find out then."
Those two really were the sort of people who thought about others.
Roy's ability was something he'd made up on the spot anyway. Seeing how Leorio and Kurapika were reacting for his sake, Roy couldn't help but smile.
"Then do you need me to help you open your aura nodes and become Nen users?"
Leorio, Kurapika, and Gon exchanged looks. In the end, all three of them steeled themselves.
"Then we'll be counting on you!"
Their voices rang out over the open sea.
Inside the bridge, the Red-Nose Captain pulled his captain's hat down lower, lit the pipe in his mouth, took a deep drag, and blew out a ring of smoke.
"When something happens later, I'm not dealing with it. It's got nothing to do with me anyway~"
…
And so, with Roy's help, the three of them successfully had their aura nodes opened.
"So… so amazing! This is Nen? I feel like my whole body is overflowing with endless power!"
Leorio clenched his fist, looking completely stunned.
"Is this the power that killed my clan?"
Kurapika's eyes started turning scarlet. "Then I need to become even stronger!"
"So this is the power only Hunters are allowed to teach… This is incredible. I feel like my body got a lot stronger."
Gon bounced around on the spot, practically vibrating with excitement.
Roy casually pulled out a small snack and stuffed it into his mouth.
"Right now you're just beginners who've only just grasped Nen. Focus on stabilizing your fundamentals and practicing the Four Major Principles of Nen. As for the deeper stuff—Ken and Shu—you can learn those once your Nen training reaches the right level. And then you can officially start developing your own personal abilities."
"Yes!"
All three answered in unison.
The next few days passed peacefully. Under Roy's guidance, the three of them advanced in their Nen training at a startling pace.
In general, the Hunter world's overall era felt roughly equivalent to a late '90s level of development compared to Roy's original world—technology and many training methods were still relatively behind.
But with Roy teaching them, and with their own excellent talent, it didn't take long for all three to gain much stronger control over Nen.
Given their original strength, plus the boost from Nen, passing the Hunter Exam shouldn't be a problem.
And so, the Ship: Sea God continued steadily onward toward its destination.
Over the following days, beyond Nen lessons and practice, they also began talking more and getting to know each other better.
Leorio and Android 18 had the same goal as Hunters and got along pretty well—especially when it came to making money.
Android 18 came from a thoroughly modern metropolis in the Dragon Ball world, and she had a sharp business sense. Some of the ways she framed "earning power" made Leorio feel like the fog had cleared and the sky had opened up.
If it weren't for the fact that Android 18 and Roy were already husband and wife—and obviously close—Leorio might've ended up having a few inappropriate thoughts.
After all, truly like-minded people were rare in this world.
But even if Leorio had his flaws, when it came to being a decent person and a good friend, there was nothing to criticize. So he quickly tossed those thoughts aside and started seriously thinking through practical money-making paths.
Meanwhile, Kurapika was deeply impressed by Roy's breadth of knowledge, and he often came over to ask Roy questions.
On top of that, whenever natural sea phenomena appeared along the route, Roy always provided explanations that were convincing and coherent, which only made Kurapika admire him more.
There was even an OCR-looking hiccup in the text here: a line that reads like "even the ship's da—" which clearly seems to mean the ship's first mate. In any case, even some of the crew came over as well, carefully writing down Roy's theories in small notebooks.
With exchanges like that back and forth, the group naturally grew closer.
Time passed, and finally, on one morning, the Ship: Sea God came to a steady stop at the port of their destination: Dolle Harbor.
"Thank you, Captain, for giving us such an enjoyable journey," Gon said.
"And thank you for your warm hospitality," Kurapika and Leorio added politely, coming over to express their gratitude as well, thanking the Captain for looking after them along the way.
