Chapter 46 - Quiet moments

The mansion felt alive in a way it hadn't in years. Not with danger, not with tension, but with a soft warmth that settled over every corner.

I wandered through the halls, touching the furniture, noticing the small details I had never appreciated before — the sunlight streaming through the windows, the scent of polished wood, the way the curtains fluttered in the morning breeze.

He appeared silently behind me, hands in his pockets, eyes softer than usual.

"You're enjoying the quiet," he remarked, his voice low.

"I think I finally can," I replied. "It feels… peaceful here, like the mansion itself is breathing again."

He smiled faintly. "It took a lot to get us here," he said. "But you… you've been incredible through all of it."

I glanced up at him, feeling my chest tighten. "I couldn't have done it without you."

He shook his head. "No. You could have. But I'm glad I was here to see it."

For a long while, we simply walked together through the gardens, the roses in bloom around us. He spoke little, but when he did, it was gentle, deliberate, a contrast to the commanding presence he usually wore.

"You're different now," he said finally. "Stronger, more… complete. I can see it in the way you move, the way you speak."

I smiled softly, leaning into him. "I feel different too. Like I finally belong somewhere… with someone who sees me."

He paused, brushing his fingers through mine. "You belong with me," he said quietly. "And I'll make sure nothing ever takes that from you."

The sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a golden glow over the mansion. For the first time, I felt free. Not just from fear, not just from danger, but free to simply live — and love — without constant shadows looming over me.

And as I looked up at him, I realized that this… this quiet life, this soft peace, was exactly what I had been fighting for all along.
