Chapter 6 - Chapter 5 - Center of Attention

Inside the command hall of the Silver Wings, rows of armored soldiers stood at rigid attention while a holographic projection bathed the chamber in a soft blue glow. At the center, a tactical sphere hovered in midair, slowly rotating as it displayed the planet Garrix in intricate detail. Strategic markers pulsed across its surface, shifting constantly as battle routes updated in real time, reflecting the ever-changing flow of the conflict.

Zarella stood beside the projection, her sharp blue eyes tracking every movement with quiet precision. Her hand passed through the glowing sphere, adjusting formations and tracing new paths across the battlefield as she calculated outcomes several steps ahead.

"We will dispatch half of our forces to the capital," she said, her voice steady but commanding. "The remainder will proceed to Raxix and hold the line. We cannot allow their advance to split our defenses."

The officers surrounding her nodded, their attention fixed entirely on the shifting map as they committed her orders to memory.

Across the table stood Andreia, her radiant white-and-gold armor catching the ambient light while her long golden hair fell freely behind her shoulders, an effortless contrast to the rigid discipline of the room. Where the others carried tension, she stood relaxed, as if the coming battle were little more than a routine task.

Zarella turned toward her, and though her expression remained composed, there was a subtle shift in her tone.

"Andreia, we are honored to have you with us."

Andreia smiled easily. "I'm glad to be joining your mission on Garrix."

Zarella studied her for a brief moment before adding, "I assume Renku has already filled you in."

A quiet laugh escaped Andreia. "Of course he has. You know how he is."

For the briefest moment, the tension in the room eased, but it did not last. Zarella turned back to her soldiers, her focus sharpening once more.

"Then there is no reason to delay. We begin immediately."

The transport bay thundered to life minutes later, engines roaring as massive carriers powered up for deployment. The vibration of machinery echoed through the hangar while rows of soldiers marched up the loading ramp in perfect formation, their synchronized steps ringing sharply against the metal floor.

Andreia and Zarella followed behind them, moving with purpose as the final preparations were completed.

"They're up ahead," one of the soldiers reported.

Zarella gave a small nod, her gaze already fixed forward. "Then we won't keep them waiting."

On the surface of Garrix, the battlefield stretched across a vast green valley beneath an open sky. Two armies stood facing one another in heavy silence, separated by only a short distance that would soon collapse into violence.

White banners bearing the Angelic emblem fluttered in the wind, while across from them, Arcadian forces advanced beneath crimson banners, their black armor gleaming with a cold, unforgiving sheen.

For a moment, nothing moved.

Then the ground trembled, and the silence shattered as both armies surged forward.

The collision was immediate and overwhelming. Steel clashed against steel in a violent storm of motion as soldiers crashed into one another, the orderly lines dissolving into chaos within seconds. The air filled with the sound of shouting, the ringing of blades, and the sharp crack of impacts as sparks burst with every strike.

An Angelic knight locked blades with his opponent, straining against the force. "We will not falter!" he shouted.

"We will destroy you!" the Arcadian soldier roared back, their weapons grinding together as the battle consumed them.

High above the battlefield, the Silver Wing transport descended through the clouds, cutting through the smoke-filled sky. Inside, Zarella stood once more before her soldiers, her presence commanding absolute focus despite the chaos waiting below.

"Our mission is to drive the Arcadians back," she said, her voice carrying clearly across the chamber. "You will hold the line while Andreia and I strike their command structure. Without leadership, their formation will collapse."

The soldiers tightened their grips on their weapons.

Zarella raised her blade slightly, its edge catching the light. "Stand firm. The Goddess of Creation stands with us."

A unified roar answered her, echoing through the transport as it descended toward the battlefield.

The ship landed in a mountain valley far from the main conflict, its thrusters blasting dust and debris into the air. As the ramp lowered, rows of Silver Wing soldiers advanced outward in disciplined formation, immediately securing the surrounding area.

Andreia stepped forward beside Zarella, her gaze scanning the distant terrain. "The Arcadian command post is about three clicks west," she said, focusing on a cluster of structures partially obscured by the landscape.

Zarella followed her line of sight, her expression sharpening. "Then that is where this ends," she replied, her voice quieter now but no less resolute. "We finish this before the fighting reaches the civilians."

Miles away, within the fortified Arcadian outpost, crimson light bathed the metallic corridors as soldiers moved quickly between stations. Tactical screens flickered with battlefield data while tension hung thick in the air.

At the center of the command room stood Commander Klavaz, his towering frame encased in black armor marked with glowing red insignias. He remained still as a soldier approached, hesitation evident in his posture.

"The Silver Wings have arrived," the soldier reported.

For a moment, there was no response.

Then Klavaz spoke, his voice low and controlled. "So they have finally come."

He turned slowly, the weight of his presence filling the room as his gaze settled forward.

"Prepare the men."

The soldiers moved at once, but Klavaz remained where he stood, his thoughts lingering.

"Zarella…" he murmured under his breath, his tone darkening. "Let us see if you remember the faces of those you've buried."

A mile away, concealed within dense forest overlooking the base, Zarella and Andreia observed the compound in silence. Patrols moved in steady patterns while gunships hovered overhead and defense towers scanned the perimeter with mechanical precision.

"This is the base," Zarella said quietly, her eyes tracking every movement.

"There are too many to attack directly," she added after a moment.

Andreia nodded, already considering the options before a faint smile formed. "Then I'll make sure they're too distracted to notice you."

Zarella glanced at her, a hint of amusement breaking through her composure. "Try not to draw the entire army."

Andreia stood, her confidence unwavering. "I make no promises."

She approached the base openly, her presence immediately drawing attention. The Arcadian soldiers reacted without hesitation, weapons snapping upward as they rushed to intercept her.

"It's an Orion!" one of them shouted.

Andreia smiled, unfazed. "Well then… let's begin."

She moved with explosive speed, closing the distance in an instant as her strikes sent the first wave of soldiers crashing backward. Her movements were fluid and controlled, each motion flowing seamlessly into the next as she dismantled those who came at her.

More soldiers poured in to surround her, but Andreia simply rolled her shoulders as golden energy began to crackle along her arms, her expression sharpening with excitement.

"Good," she said softly. "This might actually be interesting."

While chaos erupted at the gate, Zarella slipped over the outer wall and into the compound without a sound. The corridors inside were dimly lit, lined with crimson banners as patrols moved through them at regular intervals.

Two guards rounded the corner ahead of her, but they never had time to react. A single flash of silver cut through the air, and both collapsed before they could raise an alarm.

Zarella continued forward without hesitation, her focus fixed entirely on the objective ahead.

Inside the command chamber, Klavaz stood before a glowing tactical display when the doors slid open behind him.

"You're late," he said without turning.

Zarella stepped into the room, her blade resting loosely at her side. "I prefer effective."

Klavaz turned to face her, his presence immediately pressing against the space between them.

"The Angelics greatest assassin," he said, his voice carrying a quiet intensity. "Tell me… do you remember their faces? The ones who begged before you cut them down?"

Zarella's expression did not change.

"They screamed your name," he continued, his tone sharpening. "And yet you stand here calling yourself a savior."

Silence answered him.

After a moment, Zarella raised her blade slightly. "No," she said simply.

And then they moved.

Their clash shook the room as steel collided with explosive force. Klavaz's strikes were heavy and relentless, each swing carrying enough power to break through defenses, forcing Zarella onto the defensive as she absorbed the impact through precise, controlled movements.

"You lack the strength to win," he said coldly, pressing the attack.

Zarella adjusted her footing, her mind racing as she studied his movements. "Then I'll prove you wrong."

His strength was undeniable, but it was not flawless. There were delays, however slight, in the transitions between his strikes—openings that could be exploited if she controlled the pace.

I can't beat him in a direct battle of strength. My speed is greater, I need to use that to my advantage.

So she slowed—only slightly, just enough to create the opening she needed.

Klavaz saw the opening and lunged forward without hesitation, committing fully to the attack. In that instant, Zarella vanished from his line of sight, her speed surging as she countered with a precise flurry of strikes aimed at the weak points in his armor.

Each hit landed with purpose, forcing him off balance for the first time as sparks erupted from the seams of his defenses.

With a roar, Klavaz lashed out, his strike connecting hard enough to send her weapon skidding across the floor before he grabbed her and drove her into the ground with crushing force.

The impact cracked the floor beneath them, but Zarella twisted free, driving her knee into his chest and creating space between them as they separated.

Both were breathing harder now.

Then the air shifted.

Energy began to surge from Klavaz's armor, the red glow intensifying as it spread across his form.

"You misunderstand," he said, his voice lowering. "This was never a duel."

The blast that followed consumed the room, hurling Zarella backward as smoke and heat filled the chamber.

Klavaz stepped forward through the haze, his silhouette barely visible through the swirling smoke. "Arcane energy is a thing of beauty," he said calmly. "You were never meant to win."

Before he could advance further, an explosion tore through the hallway behind him, sending flames spilling into the room.

Andreia stepped through the fire, brushing ash from her arm as if she had merely walked through dust. "Sorry," she said casually. "I ran out of people to fight."

Klavaz turned, just for a moment.

That moment was enough.

Zarella moved from the shadows, her blade driving forward with precise intent as it pierced through a weakened section of his armor.

Klavaz froze, the glow fading from his body before he collapsed to the ground.

Silence settled over the chamber as the flames continued to burn around them.

Andreia stepped forward, glancing down at the fallen commander. "Well… that worked out."

Zarella exhaled slowly, lowering her weapon. "You always make an entrance."

Andreia gave a small shrug. "Sorry."

Zarella allowed herself a quiet laugh.

Outside, the base burned as the battle came to an end. Smoke rose into the sky in thick, dark columns while soldiers moved through the aftermath, securing the area and tending to the wounded.

An injured Arcadian soldier stumbled through the ruins, raising a device with shaking hands. "The outpost has fallen—"

Zarella moved without hesitation, her blade cutting cleanly through the air and ending the transmission.

Andreia exhaled softly. "Too late to stop it completely."

Zarella lowered her weapon, her gaze distant. "They know we're here now."

Over the ridge, Silver Wing forces arrived in formation.

"The battlefield is secure," a captain reported.

"The capital?"

"Safe."

Zarella closed her eyes briefly before nodding. "…Good."

Around them, the reality of the war settled in. Smoke rose from distant settlements, and the cost of the battle became impossible to ignore.

Andreia's expression softened as she looked toward the horizon. "You handle things here," she said.

Zarella glanced at her. "Where are you going?"

Andreia looked back with a small, genuine smile. "To do what we're actually here for."

She leapt forward, a streak of gold cutting across the sky toward the damaged settlements.

Zarella watched her for a moment before turning back to her soldiers, her composure returning.

"Begin recovery operations," she ordered.

Her voice carried across the battlefield, steady and resolute.

"We rebuild what was lost."

And as the fires of war faded into smoke and silence, the work of rebuilding had already begun
