Chapter 31 - Chapter 33 – War in the Laboratory

The night felt heavier than ever.

Dark clouds covered the sky, and the distant rumble of thunder echoed like a warning.

This wasn't just another mission.

This was war.

The Arrival

Deep beneath the earth—

Hidden miles away from the city—

The Founder Laboratory stood silent.

A massive underground fortress.

Cold.

Metallic.

Deadly.

Inside armored vehicles, Ryan, Meherin, Adrian, Victor, Daniel, and Arman moved toward the entrance.

The resistance army surrounded the perimeter.

Weapons ready.

Eyes sharp.

No one spoke for a long moment.

Then Ryan broke the silence.

"Once we go in… there's no turning back."

Meherin looked straight ahead.

"There never was."

Ryan's gaze softened for a second.

Then hardened again.

"Stay close to me."

Meherin didn't argue.

But she didn't promise either.

Breach

The massive steel gates of the facility came into view.

Arman raised his hand.

"Positions."

Within seconds—

Explosives were set.

Adrian checked the timer.

"Three… two… one—"

BOOM!

The entrance exploded open.

Alarms screamed instantly.

Red lights flashed across the corridors.

"MOVE!" Arman shouted.

The resistance stormed inside.

Gunfire erupted.

The war had begun.

Inside the Hell

The laboratory was a maze of corridors.

Cold white lights flickered above.

Armed Founder guards rushed toward them.

Ryan moved like a storm.

Precise.

Lethal.

Every shot calculated.

Every movement controlled.

He pulled Meherin behind cover, shielding her instinctively.

"Stay with me!"

"I am!" she snapped back.

But her eyes were everywhere.

Observing.

Calculating.

Predicting.

Adrian covered the left flank.

Victor moved through shadows, eliminating enemies silently.

Daniel coordinated with the resistance forces.

Arman led the charge deeper inside.

The System Awakens

Suddenly—

The lights went out.

Complete darkness.

Then—

Emergency red lights flickered on.

A distorted voice echoed through the facility.

"Welcome."

The Director.

Ryan clenched his jaw.

"Show yourself."

The Director's voice remained calm.

"You came exactly as expected."

Meherin whispered,

"She wants this."

Adrian nodded.

"This entire place is a trap."

Victor smirked.

"Good. I hate boring missions."

The Split

The team reached a central junction.

Multiple corridors branched out.

Arman quickly spoke,

"We split."

Ryan frowned.

"No."

Arman looked at him seriously.

"If we stay together, we'll lose time."

Adrian added,

"The main control core is in the lower level."

Daniel nodded.

"And the experiment chamber is separate."

Everyone looked at Meherin.

She already knew.

Ryan spoke firmly,

"You're not going alone."

Meherin met his gaze.

"I have to face her."

Ryan's voice dropped.

"Then I'm coming with you."

She didn't argue.

The Descent

Ryan and Meherin moved toward the lower chamber.

The air grew colder.

Heavier.

Each step echoed through the empty corridor.

The silence felt wrong.

Too quiet.

Ryan whispered,

"Something's off."

Meherin nodded.

"They're watching."

As if on cue—

The doors ahead opened slowly.

A large chamber revealed itself.

Dim lights.

Glass walls.

And at the center—

She stood there.

The Other Meherin

Subject-02.

Standing still.

Perfect posture.

Perfect calm.

She looked exactly like Meherin.

But her eyes—

Empty.

Cold.

Dead.

Meherin's breath caught.

Ryan stepped forward instinctively.

Subject-02 tilted her head slightly.

Observing.

Analyzing.

Then she spoke—

"You're late."

Her voice—

Identical.

Ryan's grip tightened on his weapon.

"Stay behind me."

Meherin stepped forward instead.

"No."

The First Clash

Subject-02 moved first.

Fast.

Unnaturally fast.

She closed the distance in a second.

Ryan barely reacted in time.

He blocked her strike.

But the force—

It shocked him.

"She's strong," he muttered.

Meherin jumped into the fight.

Their movements mirrored each other.

Step.

Turn.

Strike.

Block.

It was like watching the same person fighting herself.

Subject-02 had no hesitation.

No fear.

No emotion.

Only precision.

A Battle of Minds

Meherin tried to outthink her.

Predict her moves.

But Subject-02 reacted instantly.

Like she already knew.

Adrian's voice came through the comms.

"She's reading you!"

Meherin realized—

"She's using my patterns…"

Ryan shouted,

"Break your pattern!"

Meherin changed her movements.

Unpredictable.

Erratic.

Emotional.

And for the first time—

Subject-02 hesitated.

Ryan's Rage

Subject-02 turned toward Ryan suddenly.

Attacking him instead.

Ryan fought back fiercely.

His movements brutal now.

Anger driving him.

"You think you can replace her?"

He slammed her back.

"She's not a copy."

His voice dropped.

"She's real."

The Turning Point

Meherin stepped forward again.

This time—

She didn't fight like a machine.

She fought like a human.

Unpredictable.

Emotional.

Alive.

Subject-02 froze for a split second.

Confusion flickered in her eyes.

Something she wasn't programmed for.

Meherin whispered,

"You don't understand what it means to feel."

🔥 Final Cliffhanger

Suddenly—

The chamber doors slammed shut.

The Director's voice echoed again.

"Impressive."

The walls around them shifted.

Hidden weapons activated.

Guns.

Turrets.

Targeting systems locked on.

Ryan looked up.

"…this wasn't the real test."

The Director spoke calmly—

"The real test…"

"…is survival."

The turrets powered up.

Aiming directly at Ryan and Meherin.

And Subject-02 stepped back.

Watching.

Waiting.
