Chapter 32 - Chapter 34 – Survival Protocol

The chamber was a cage.

Cold metal walls stretched high, encasing them in a deadly prism. The air was electric with tension, thick with the hum of the automated targeting systems. Red laser dots danced across Ryan and Meherin's bodies, locking them in the sights of the turrets.

"Stay low! Keep moving!" Ryan barked, gripping his weapons tightly.

Meherin's pulse raced. Her breath came in rapid bursts. Every step mattered; one mistake could mean death. The familiar adrenaline rush merged with fear and desire—she could feel Ryan's presence behind her, solid, protective, and dangerously magnetic.

Automated Assault

The turrets whirred to life, unleashing a hail of bullets. Sparks flew as the bullets ricocheted off the reinforced walls. Smoke began curling in the air, burning Meherin's lungs.

Ryan dove forward, shielding her instinctively. "Move! Go left!" he shouted, yanking her behind a large metallic console.

Meherin rolled, barely avoiding a spray of bullets. Every second was a heartbeat closer to annihilation. Her mind raced. There had to be a way to turn this against them.

"Ryan, there!" she pointed to a control panel on the wall. "If I hack it, I can shut down the turrets—but I need cover!"

Ryan's eyes narrowed. "I'll cover you. Go!"

She sprinted, adrenaline propelling her forward, sparks hitting the floor around her feet. Sweat mixed with soot on her skin, making her feel both vulnerable and invincible.

Meherin Unleashed

Dropping to her knees, Meherin's fingers flew over the console, bypassing firewalls and security protocols. Her heart pounded—not just from fear, but from the thrill of the fight. She had trained for this moment, and every lesson, every late-night hacking session, paid off.

"Almost there… just… a little…" she muttered.

A sudden shot rang out, grazing her shoulder. Pain seared through her, but she didn't flinch. "I… I'm almost—"

The turrets' red dots started to flicker. Systems overloaded. Sparks rained down as the firing ceased.

"Yes!" she shouted, exhilarated. She leaned back, exhausted, but alive.

Ryan pulled her close, checking her wound. "You're insane… but I like it," he murmured, voice low, and their proximity ignited a tension that had been simmering for weeks. Their lips almost brushed, but Ryan snapped back to focus. "Not now. We're not safe."

The Evolving Threat

Suddenly, the central chamber shook violently. Walls shifted, opening a secret passage. And there—Subject-02, the clone, stepped forward, but something was different.

Her movements were sharper, faster, more instinctive. It was as if she had learned from the first clash—evolving beyond her programming. Her eyes, once empty, now glimmered with something almost human… but darker.

"She's adapting," Ryan muttered, scanning their opponent. "Faster… smarter… more lethal."

Meherin clenched her fists, determination blazing. "Then we evolve too."

Betrayal from Within

As the team advanced cautiously, a sudden explosion shook the rear of the lab. Smoke filled the corridors. From the chaos, Adrian emerged—but his movements were deliberate, too calculated.

"Adrian…?" Ryan's voice held confusion.

Adrian smiled coldly, eyes glinting. "I'm sorry, Ryan… but the Director offered me something you could never give."

Gunfire erupted from his direction. He had turned against them. Ryan barely dodged the shot, and Meherin's heart sank. This wasn't just a lab battle—it was now personal. The resistance they trusted was fractured.

High-Stakes Combat

Ryan and Meherin fought side by side, each movement perfectly synchronized. Meherin had grown from being just a partner to a deadly ally. Her blows were precise, her instincts sharp. She wasn't a pawn anymore—she was a force to be reckoned with.

Subject-02 closed in, engaging Meherin directly. Their fight was a whirlwind of strikes, blocks, and throws, mirrored almost like a dance—deadly, beautiful, and intense.

Ryan faced off with Adrian, his rage uncontainable. Every punch carried the weight of betrayal and vengeance. Sparks flew as metal clashed, bullets and blows creating a chaotic symphony of destruction.

Unexpected Revelation

Through the smoke, Meherin noticed a familiar logo engraved on Subject-02's armor—a mark from the Khan family archives. Her heart skipped a beat. This wasn't just a random experiment… someone had been planning this for years, using the deepest secrets of Ryan's empire.

She whispered to Ryan, voice tense: "Ryan… this… this was inside knowledge. Someone close… it's more than Adrian."

Ryan's face hardened. "I know… and I'm going to find out who."

The Cliffhanger

As the battle raged, the central core of the laboratory—where the main experiment was held—began to destabilize. Warning sirens blared. The ground shook violently. Red lights flickered ominously.

Ryan grabbed Meherin's hand. "We need to get out… NOW!"

But before they could move, the floor beneath them collapsed partially, revealing a pit filled with unknown machinery and swirling energy. From the depths, a shadow emerged—a figure cloaked in darkness.

A voice boomed: "Welcome, Ryan Khan… Meherin. The real test begins now."

Meherin's eyes widened. Ryan's jaw clenched. The chamber was no longer just a battlefield—it was a death trap engineered to push them beyond human limits. And someone inside their own team was plotting to end everything.
