Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

The next morning, Xia Mu and Mu Xiuli saw Xia He off."

They actually planned to take him to the airport in Cinnabar Island

However, Xia He said he needed to go to the company to prepare everything he needed before leaving, so Xia Mu and Mu Xiuli didn't go with him."

After breakfast, Xia Mu went out as usual.

Mu Xiuli took care of things at home, believing that when she returned that evening, it would be a different scene.

Making some minor modifications in the Pokémon world wasn't as troublesome as in Xia Mu's previous life.

After all, Pokémon and humans collaborated, greatly improving work efficiency.

  …

After a night of rest and planning, Xia Mu devised a more detailed and complete plan.

In short, he had started a new experiment last night: Effort Value training.

In his previous life, when playing games, Xia Mu would usually only perform the Effort Value allocation after the Pokémon's final evolution or after reaching level 100.

Now that he's transmigrated to this world and experienced so much, Xia Mu finally decided to allocate and strengthen his Growlithe, Riolu, and Red Gyarados using the stat boosters he bought from the shop, based on the actual situation.

Effort Values (EVs) also have a special attribute panel, but they weren't initially on Xia Mu's radar.

Frankly, both in the game and in the first few days after transmigrating, he postponed EV training because he didn't have enough money at the start.

If he had money, who wouldn't want to max out EVs at level 1, making them absolutely invincible at their level and easily defeating those of higher levels?

Raising Pokémon is expensive; this one operation alone cost him two to three million League Coins.

Xia Mu first bought berries that could reset EVs.

The Pomeg Berry: Increases the friendship between the Pokémon and its trainer, but lowers the Pokémon's base HP.

**Kelpsy Berry:** Increases the friendship between the Pokémon and its trainer, but decreases its base Attack stat.

**Qualot Berry:** Increases... friendship, but decreases its base Defense stat.

**Hondew Berry:** Increases... friendship, but decreases its base Special Attack stat.

**Grepa Berry:** Increases... friendship, but decreases its base Special Defense stat.

**Tamato Berry:** Increases... friendship, but decreases its base Speed stat.

Six types of berries, 1000 of each, stored in the storage space for later use.

They're cheap, only 10 League Coins each, costing a total of 60,000 League Coins.

Resetting Effort Values (EVs) is simple; it just involves feeding the three Pokémon a certain amount of berries to clear their accumulated base EVs.

Then, it's time to buy stat-boosting potions.

Considering their usage and high price, I didn't buy many.

A small bottle of these special potions costs 10,000 League Coins, and just like in the game, one bottle only increases base EVs by 10.

One Pokémon needs 50 bottles, which is 500,000 League Coins.

Next, you need to purchase the corresponding stat feathers. Each feather increases a base Effort Value (EV) by 1 point, allowing you to maximize the EVs.

Each feather costs 1000 League Coins. In the end, even this most economical method cost 510,000 League Coins per Pokémon.

For three Pokémon, that's a total of 1,530,000 League Coins. Adding berries, the EVs alone cost Xia Mu 1,590,000 League Coins.

Actually, you could save 2,000 League Coins per Pokémon, because according to the game's mechanics, the effective EVs are only 508 points, measured in units of 4.

However, this isn't just a game, so Xia Mu chose to max out the EVs at 510.

  Growlithe's Effort Values: [HP (6), Attack (252), Defense (0), Special Attack (0), Special Defense (0), Speed (252).]

  Riolu's Effort Values: [HP (0), Attack (252), Defense (0), Special Attack (0), Special Defense (6), Speed (252).]

  Gyarados's Effort Values: [HP (0), Attack (252), Defense (0), Special Attack (252), Special Defense (0), Speed (6).]

  ...

It was still influenced by its nature; otherwise, Riolu would be more suited to dual-attack output, or even a special attack build.

Who wouldn't love a Wave Missile right off the bat?

Unfortunately, its special attack isn't outstanding.

In addition to the Effort Value allocation, Xia Mu also bought some moves from the system shop for the three little ones to learn.

Growlithe learned Protect (4000 League Coins) and Thunder Fang (8000 League Coins).

Riolu learned Shadow Claw (30,000 League Coins), Drain Punch (80,000 League Coins), and Thunder Punch (50,000 League Coins).

Gyarados learned Dark Pulse (80,000 League Coins) and Dragon Pulse (80,000 League Coins).

The total cost for these moves is a whopping 332,000 League Coins.

And this is just the average level; higher-level moves with a power value exceeding 100 would require at least 100,000 to 200,000 League Coins.

  ...

Leaving Cinnabar Island, they continued into the forest.

Today, Xia Mu had an important goal to achieve: to find and catch a Jolly nature Breedly with the Sniper ability!

If not, Weedle or Kakuna would do, but the nature must be Jolly, and the ability should ideally be Hidden.

The purpose, of course, was to prepare for dealing with Mewtwo, using type advantage and ability to suppress it!

They couldn't possibly let Riolu's evolved form, Lucario, be completely countered, could they?

Even if Growlithe evolves into Arcanine, it has absolutely no advantage, at most just a little more self-defense.

Even with the addition of Red Gyarados, it's still not weak.

The previous plan was definitely more comprehensive than the current one.

Actually, after receiving the invitation the day before yesterday, Xia Mu planned to catch a Beedrill to train.

However, after searching for several hours and defeating many Beedrill, he couldn't find one that simultaneously satisfied both the Jolly Nature and Sniper Ability.

Beedrill is inherently fragile; if its strengths aren't maximized, even if it's trained into a good Pokémon, it won't be in the top tier, just a filler.

Even after Mega Evolution, where Mega Beedrill's ability changes to Adaptability and its STAB moves are greatly increased, how can a Mega Beedrill without maximum speed compete with legendary Pokémon?

In the games, Mega Beedrill can KO Mewtwo.

Even Mega Mewtwo X can't match Mega Beedrill's speed.

But this is the real world; legendary Pokémon are legendary Pokémon, and it's not as simple as the data in the game world suggests.

To put it bluntly, if it weren't for the arrival of the Shiny Magikarp, Xia Mu would have continued searching for a good Beedrill yesterday, and might have already caught it.

With the Shiny Magikarp, yesterday's priority became evolving the Shiny Magikarp.

  The others came second.

Now, the Red Gyarados is basically complete, and Xia Mu has further development plans for Riolu and Growlithe.

If he still can't catch a suitable Beedrill, he'll have to settle for second best.

As long as it meets one of the following criteria—Jolly Nature or Hidden Ability—and the other stats are acceptable, he can buy items from the system shop to strengthen it.
