Chapter 30 - Chapter 30 A Large Number of Pokémon Appear

Chapter 30 A Large Number of Pokémon Appear

After chatting with Mu Xulie for a while, Xia Mu finally left home with the four little ones.

He had spent the entire morning assisting Professor Ivy with his research, and he needed to speed things up in the afternoon to make up for the lost time.

Xia Mu also told Mu Xulie that she would be back late that night and that she didn't need to wait for him for dinner.

After these past few days, Mu Xulie's worries about Xia Mu had lessened, and she was now completely at ease.

  ...

Leaving Cinnabar island, Xia Mu rode his mountain bike towards Lake Crescent, deep within the Cinnabar Forest.

Lucario and Growlithe naturally followed alongside.

In a sense, this was also a way to train their endurance, even if the amount of training was negligible, it was better than some simple warm-up exercises.

Beedrill and Gyarados were also there.

Xia Mu continued along the river, so Gyarados could swim freely in the water.

Although Beedrill didn't have the Flying type, its flying speed was indeed quite fast.

Half an hour later, Xia Mu returned to Lake Crescent with the four little ones.

His first instinct was naturally to check the Energy Cubes he'd left behind yesterday, since they were for Mew.

He'd feel uneasy if they hadn't been eaten.

Seeing the box open and the Energy Cubes already gone, he felt a little relieved.

After asking the nearby wild Pokémon and confirming that Mew had eaten them, he smiled knowingly.

Even though Mew wasn't there, he still had to keep his promise and bought another box of Energy Cubes to leave.

He also took out another box containing some desserts, which he'd bought at a dessert shop before leaving Cinnabar island for 200 League Coins.

It has to be said, although it was only 200 League Coins, it was more expensive than a box of Energy Cubes.

To prevent them from being eaten by other Pokémon, Xia Mu fed the wild Pokémon around them so they could keep watch.

  ...

Time flew by, and it was evening.

Xia Mu had spent the afternoon leading his four Pokémon to challenge high-level wild Pokémon in the forest.

Of course, they didn't just target high-level Pokémon; they also hunted down Pokémon level 25 and above on a large scale.

It has to be said, the battles these past few days had been quite fierce.

Many Pokémon had actually fought Xia Mu's Pokémon before, so some hid when they saw him approaching.

In short, the harvest wasn't great, and the leveling progress was getting slower and slower.

Growlithe only leveled up by 1, Lucario, Beedrill, and Red Gyarados only by 2.

As night fell, Xia Mu rested with his four Pokémon by Cinnabar Lake, cooking food.

  Unfortunately, Mew still hadn't appeared.

Xia Mu had only held onto a sliver of hope, thinking that Mew was probably hiding and that if he persisted, or if he used very fragrant food, he could lure it out.

Reality taught him another harsh lesson, most importantly, the Energy Cubes and sweets he had placed there were untouched.

The wild Pokémon told him that Mew hadn't appeared since.

[Either Mew is intentionally avoiding me, or it has truly left Round Island.]

  These are two possibilities.

To determine which is which, he'd have to wait until tomorrow.

Xia Mu hoped it was the former, perhaps a test from Mew.

After all, Mew hadn't appeared yesterday, and when he returned the next day at noon, the Energy Cubes were indeed gone.

If he comes back tomorrow and the Energy Cube is eaten again, it means Mew hasn't left, but just doesn't intend to see him.

However, if it remains unchanged tomorrow, he'll have to wait seven days until he enters the new island to meet Mew again.

But by then, the anticipation of their first meeting will be gone, replaced by resentment.

Making a promise only to leave without saying goodbye feels like being played.

As night falls, Xia Mu takes his four little ones into a night battle for the first time!

It must be said, the Round Island Forest at night is eerie and terrifying. Strange sounds and the cries of unknown Pokémon echo through the forest, sending chills down his spine.

Fortunately, his four little ones are with him, so Xia Mu isn't alone and isn't truly afraid.

Surprisingly, Pokémon of all levels, both high and low, come out of the forest at night.

Xia Mu even encounters many Pokémon above level 45.

  A level 47 Pinsir, a level 47 Parasect, a level 46 Ariados, three level 46 Bellossom…

Besides these, there were at least two or three times more Bug-type Pokémon above level 30 than during the day. Where did they hide during the day?

This clearly shows that the forest at night is indeed Bug-type's domain.

Even though there were quite a few Grass-type Pokémon, most were in a semi-dormant state.

Most fortunately, Xia Mu unexpectedly entered a valley and discovered a group of Scyther around level 40.

Surprisingly, some Bug/Grass-type Pokémon from other regions also lived there, such as Ninjask, Volcarona, Psyduck, and Leavanny.

  A battle was inevitable.

Xia Mu's reckless intrusion with his four little ones immediately aroused the hostility of the Scyther swarm, resulting in a group attack.

It gave Xia Mu the feeling of encountering a single Pokémon appearing in large numbers, just like in the games.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a shiny Scyther, otherwise Xia Mu would have liked to catch one.

After all, in the game, he spent his later days specifically farming shiny Pokémon, spending countless hours among various Pokémon that appeared in large numbers.

If a shiny Pokémon appeared, no matter how ugly it was, it was still shiny and he had to catch it.

This mindset naturally remained unchanged in this world.

For example, shiny Dragonite and shiny Espeon were indeed ugly, but they couldn't resist being shiny.

After a fierce battle, Xia Mu and the four little ones, though also quite battered, still managed to win.

To be fair, it was fortunate that they had been practicing fighting high-level groups recently, otherwise they would have really been defeated this time.

When they left the forest and returned to Round Island City, Growlithe was already level 44, Lucario was level 40, Red Gyarados was level 38, and Beedrill was level 38.

This was indeed much more than what they had gained in an afternoon.

However, this level of improvement was only average, especially the improvement after level 40, where each level was a major hurdle.

Recalling the progress of the previous few days, that improvement was clearly visible to the naked eye.

In short, starting tomorrow, Xia Mu will have to make other plans.

Round Island Forest is no longer the best place to level up, unless he encounters another large swarm of Scyther like today.

But the probability of that is extremely low, and he can't possibly go there to farm again tomorrow.

Most importantly, for the next period of time, the wild Pokémon will likely deliberately hide from him due to the immense pressure they've been under recently.

Xia Mu can't possibly use those level 10+ wild Pokémon as bait again; even if he did, the experience points wouldn't be much.
