Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 A Series of Defeats, Easily Overcome

Chapter 34 A Series of Defeats, Easily Overcome

"Golduck is unable to battle, Growlithe wins..."

The young referee, after confirming Golduck's inability to continue, immediately announced the result.

  Another uproar ensued.

Many of them knew Yuichi's strength.

Golduck, despite its type advantage, was completely helpless against a Growlithe—it was unbelievable.

This situation also had a huge impact on the hearts of these young people.

They had never imagined that a Growlithe could be trained to be so powerful.

"Brother, Golduck." Yuichi finally came to his senses.

He could accept Nidoqueen's loss, after all, the battle with Sandslash had taken a toll.

But Golduck, at its peak, was defeated by Growlithe—he couldn't accept it, especially since Growlithe could learn Thunder Fang?

Yuichi was puzzled; he had never studied Growlithe.

Like him, most trainers didn't choose Growlithe, so their understanding of it was limited to the basics.

If it had Fire Fang, no one would be surprised.

Because this is a move Growlithe must learn, the fact that a Fire-type Growlithe can learn an Electric-type move undoubtedly tells them that Growlithe isn't as weak as they think; on the contrary, it can even counter Water-types.

It's fair to say these trainers are incredibly ignorant, and also that the game has given Growlithe a cheat code—as long as it has a TM, it can learn anything.

If they knew that Growlithe could not only learn Thunder Fang but also Wild Volt, what would they think?

Of course, Xia Mu wouldn't let Growlithe learn that move. Even though Wild Volt has a power of 90, it will still take damage after use.

Thunder Fang, while only having a power of 65, can easily one-shot some Water-types with weak physical defense under such level and type advantage.

If it were another water-type, even if it couldn't instantly KO, it could still quickly counter.

Growlithe is like that, let alone its future evolution into Arcanine.

However, even knowing how powerful Growlithe is, not many people will train it.

After all, even if a dog can become stronger, evolution still requires a Fire Stone.

For the average trainer, who would be willing to spend hundreds of thousands of League Coins to buy evolution stones for Growlithe?

Even though Arcanine is considered a legendary Pokémon in the Kanto region

, it doesn't mean Arcanine is incredibly strong.

Without proper training, most Growlithe, even if they evolve into Arcanine, will end up being underutilized.

  ...

"Given your skill level, you must have other Pokémon, right? You can continue using other Pokémon; I won't change Growlithe's battles," Xia Mu continued.

Two battles should have yielded a considerable amount of experience points.

But the combined experience from levels 39 and 37 isn't enough to raise Growlithe from level 44 to 45.

  'Woof~~Woof~~!' Growlithe

  let out a fierce roar.

It wasn't speaking, but expressing its excitement and conveying its fighting spirit.

  Not enough, absolutely not enough!

Xia Mu suddenly imagined Growlithe taking on ten opponents.

On the other side, Yuichi was furious; he wouldn't admit defeat and retreat so easily.

If he did, he'd be finished in this circle.

There was only defeat, no desertion.

"Go, Fearow!" With another command, Yuichi sent out his third Pokémon. A

  level 38 Fearow.

This guy, definitely an elite trainer, right? All the Pokémon were close to level 40.

If there was only one, it would be barely acceptable.

He wondered if these were the strongest Pokémon he had trained over the years, or if there were even stronger ones?

Facing an opponent like Fearow again, Growlithe recalled the scene of being defeated and humiliated by Finch last time.

Although it had later avenged itself by defeating that Fearow, the memory was exceptionally vivid, etched into its heart.

Its eyes blazed with fighting spirit, and its Intimidate ability took effect again, causing Fearow's attack to drop.

"Let's see how you manage to hit me this time! In terms of speed, my Fearow is definitely faster!" Yuichi was extremely confident.

At this moment, he hadn't even noticed that his Fearow was affected by Growlithe's Intimidate.

He hadn't paid attention to it in the previous two battles either.

It was clear that while Yuichi had some skill and a good understanding of types, his battle talent was indeed limited to that. He knew

  nothing about abilities .

"That's not necessarily true. Come on, you can go first." Xia Mu showed no fear.

Seeing FincFearow'sh's information panel, he already knew how to deal with this Finch.

Ultimately, Finch's battle style was very simple and direct, so there was no need for any tricks.

Upon hearing Xia Mu words, Yuichi immediately issued the command: "You toyed with me with Agility before, now it's my turn! Spearow, Agility close in, let them see our speed!"

  'Caw!'

Spearow let out a cry, flapping its wings and unleashing astonishing speed.

Indeed, it was very fast, and with the added speed of Agility, it seemed to be surpassing Growlithe.

However, a single straight-line movement, especially in the air, couldn't cause much disruption, no matter how fast it was.

  This wasn't a game.

Xia Mu had roughly guessed Yuichi's plan.

Xia Mu had also mentally reached a consensus with Growlithe using Aura.

Growlithe should know what to do.

Just as Spearow approached, seeing that Xia Mu didn't give any commands and Growlithe remained motionless, Yuichi impatiently issued the command: "Now! Wing Attack to knock it away!!!"

He assumed that Xia Mu, like him before, didn't know how to react, and that Growlithe, like his Golduck, had lost its judgment.

A wing attack came hurtling towards Growlithe, a fierce glint flashing in its eyes.

A long howl escaped its lips.

This wasn't just a simple roar; it was a support move, boosting both its own and its teammates' attack!

Immediately, Growlithe bared its fangs without hesitation.

A flash of lightning, and Thunder Fang erupted once more.

Facing the oncoming Finch, Growlithe disregarded the damage and bit down hard on Fearow's wing attack.

  *Boom!*

The fierce collision did send Fearow flying, but Growlithe held its grip on Finch's wing.

The exploding sparks caused Fearow to scream in pain, collapsing unconscious shortly after.

"Fearow is unable to battle! Growlithe wins!" the young referee declared decisively.

Although the battle itself was completely different, it was exactly the same as the previous one, relying on level advantage and type advantage.

A smile played on Xia Mu's lips, while Yuichi across from him gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.

He never imagined Xia Mu's Growlithe would take the wing attack in such a way.

  Trading injury for injury—how shameless!

Yuichi suddenly felt like he'd been tricked by Xia Mu, a feeling of suffocation rising in his chest.

"I think I already know your Growlithe is really high-level, but even so, a Growlithe is still a Growlithe!" Yuichi recalled his Finch, and immediately sent out a level 42 Magmar.
