Chapter 60: The Unveiled Mask
The atmosphere was heavy with a chilling silence. The moon tonight seemed bloodier than usual, casting an eerie crimson glow over the Silver Moon territory. Elara's heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She knew, deep in her soul, that this moment would define the rest of her life.
"Did you truly think, Elara... that everything would end this easily?"
A voice drifted from the shadows, making Elara freeze in her tracks. The Alpha's voice sounded different tonight. Gone was the usual arrogance; in its place was a hollow, haunting tone that sent shivers down her spine.
Elara tightened her grip on the silver dagger hidden beneath her cloak. "You've broken me a thousand times, Alpha. But every time, I came back stronger. Your excuses won't work anymore. Tonight, justice will be served in blood."
Slowly, the figure stepped out of the darkness. As the moonlight hit his face, Elara's eyes widened in pure shock. There was an old, jagged scar running just below his left eye—a scar she hadn't seen before. It was the exact mark she had left on a traitorous Enforcer five years ago.
"You... who are you?" Elara's voice trembled, her world tilting on its axis.
The man smirked, but there was no warmth in his gaze. "I am the answer you've been seeking for years. The man you hated, the Alpha you blamed—he was nothing but a mask. A puppet in a much larger game. And now, the real play begins."
Silver dust began to swirl in the air, blurring her vision. Was she losing her mind, or was the truth more terrifying than her nightmares? Could she handle the reality that her revenge might have been aimed at the wrong shadow all along?Author's Note:
