Chapter 61: Whispers of the Past
The silver dust gradually settled, but the storm inside Elara's mind was only beginning to rage. She stared at the man standing before her—the man with the crescent scar. He wasn't just an Enforcer; he was someone she had trusted with her life long before the Alpha's betrayal.
"Kael?" Elara's voice was barely a whisper. "But you... you were supposed to be dead. They told me the Alpha executed you for treason."
Kael let out a bitter, dry laugh. "The Alpha you know doesn't execute anyone, Elara. He hasn't been in control of this pack for years. The man sitting on the throne is a shadow, a puppet controlled by the Council of Elders."
Elara felt the ground beneath her feet turn cold. Everything she had built her revenge upon was crumbling. If the Alpha wasn't the real enemy, then all the blood on her hands, all the nights spent in agony, were based on a lie.
"Then where is he?" she demanded, stepping closer, her silver dagger still glinting. "Where is the man who truly destroyed my life?"
Kael looked toward the dark mountains in the distance. "In a place where even the moon doesn't shine. But you have to decide, Elara—are you going to keep hunting a ghost, or will you help me tear down the puppet masters?"
Before she could answer, a howl echoed through the woods. It wasn't a call of the pack; it was a warning. The Enforcers were closing in.
"The plot just took a massive turn! Kael is back, and the Alpha might not be the real villain. Who do you think is really behind Elara's misery? Drop your theories in the comments! Also, should Elara trust Kael?"
