Chapter 63: The Gates of Despair
The Forbidden Woods felt alive, as if the very trees were watching their every move. The air grew colder with each step Elara and Kael took, and a thick, unnatural mist began to crawl across the forest floor. Elara kept her hand on the hilt of her dagger, her senses heightened to every snap of a twig.
"We're close," Kael whispered, his voice barely audible over the eerie silence of the woods. "The Council keeps the prisoner behind a seal of ancient magic. If we break it, there's no turning back."
Elara looked at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of determination and doubt. "If the man inside is the true Alpha, why would the Council hide him? What power does he hold that they fear so much?"
Kael stopped in front of a massive iron gate, rusted and covered in black vines. "It's not just his power they fear, Elara. It's the truth he carries. A truth that could unite the packs and destroy the Council's control forever."
As Elara reached out to touch the gate, a sudden wave of dark energy pushed her back. A low, guttural growl vibrated through the ground. From the shadows of the gate, a massive beast—half-wolf, half-nightmare—began to take shape.
"The Guardian," Kael hissed, drawing his own blade. "The Council doesn't just lock doors; they leave monsters to watch them."
Elara stood her ground, her heart racing. "I've faced monsters my whole life, Kael. This one is just standing in my way."
"The action is heating up! Elara is finally at the gates, but a nightmare stands in her way. Do you think Elara and Kael can defeat the Guardian together? Or will they need an unexpected ally? Let me know your predictions in the comments!"
