Chapter 78 - The Echo of the Abyss"

Chapter 74: Closing the Abyss

The victory over the Void-Walker had left the valley in a haunting silence. Though the physical manifestation of the shadow was gone, the air remained thick with the metallic tang of dark magic. The fissure in the center of the clearing—the Shattered Seal—was pulsing with a rhythmic, sickly purple light.

"It's breathing," Elara whispered, leaning against Silas for support. Her Celestial Bond with him had drained her energy, but she could still feel the Void calling out to her mark. "The gate isn't just a hole in the ground, Silas. It's a wound in reality."

Valerius approached the edge of the crack, his crimson eyes narrowed. "The Council used a blood-lock to keep this gate stable. Now that they are gone, the lock is broken. If we don't seal it now, more horrors from the Abyss will crawl through by nightfall."

"Tell us what to do," Silas growled, his hand never leaving Elara's waist. He was exhausted, but his Alpha instinct wouldn't let him rest while his pack was in danger.

"It requires a dual sacrifice of intent," Valerius explained gravely. "The Lunar light to purify the dark energy, and the Alpha's blood to bind the earth back together. But be warned—the Void will fight back. It will show you your deepest fears to break your concentration."

Silas looked at Elara, a silent question in his eyes. She nodded bravely. Together, they stepped toward the edge of the abyss.

As Silas sliced his palm with a silver dagger and let his blood fall into the purple glow, the ground began to shake violently. Screams of a thousand lost souls echoed from the depths. Elara placed her hand over the fissure, channeling the remaining light of her silver mark.

Suddenly, the world around them vanished. Silas saw visions of Elara leaving him again; Elara saw visions of the Council successfully executing her. It was a psychological onslaught.

"Don't look at the shadows, Elara!" Silas's voice boomed through the mental fog. "Look at me! Remember the dawn!"

Elara gripped Silas's bloodied hand. The warmth of his blood and the purity of her light merged once more. A brilliant white flash erupted, clashing with the purple void. With a deafening roar, the earth began to stitch itself back together. The rocks groaned as they fused, the magical pressure building until—snap.

The purple light vanished. The silence that followed was absolute. The fissure was gone, replaced by smooth, untouched stone.

Elara collapsed into Silas's arms, her breathing ragged. They had done it. The gate was closed. But as Silas looked up, he noticed the Council's Head Elder watching them from his prison transport in the distance, a bloody map hidden in his shackled hands.

The gate was closed, but the map pointed to something even older—and much further away.
