Chapter 140 - "The First Breach"

Chapter 138: The First Breach

The perimeter of the pack house was a fortress of flickering torches and sharpened silver pikes. Every warrior stood in grim silence, their breath misting in the freezing air. The Alpha moved through the ranks, his presence a stabilizing force, while the Omega remained near the scouts, her heightened senses picking up vibrations that no one else could feel.

"Something is wrong," she whispered as the wind suddenly died down. "The forest... it's stopped breathing."

The silence was shattered by a sound like a thousand dry bones snapping at once. From the edge of the Forbidden Woods, they emerged—beasts that looked like wolves but were twisted by ancient, dark magic. Their fur was matted with black sap, and their eyes glowed with a sickly, pale amber. These were the heralds of the Old Blood, creatures long thought to be myths.

"Hold the line!" the Alpha roared, his voice cutting through the sudden panic.

The first wave hit the northern gate with terrifying force. These weren't enemies that fought for land or rank; they fought for total annihilation. Silas and the other warriors engaged the creatures in a brutal clash of claws and steel. The smell of decay and ozone filled the air, and for a moment, the sheer number of the beasts threatened to overwhelm the front gates.

Seeing the "First Breach" at the southern wall, the Omega didn't wait for a command. She grabbed a silver spear from a fallen warrior and leaped from the stone ledge. She moved with a fluid grace that stunned everyone who saw her. No longer just a broken soul, she fought like a warrior born in the fire of redemption. Her silver blade sliced through the shadows, turning the pale amber eyes to ash.

The Alpha watched her for a split second, a surge of pride and power flowing through their bond. He joined the fray, his wolf form larger and more ferocious than ever before. Together, they became a whirlwind of silver and fur, pushing back the shadows that sought to consume their home.

But as the first wave of creatures retreated back into the darkness, a heavy, rhythmic thud echoed from deep within the forest. Something much larger was approaching—a beast that the First Breach was only meant to distract them from.
