The black SUV screeched as it
reached a stop in the parking lot.
The place was filled with smoke and the smell of burning rubber.
Lucian was on his burner phone, his voice commanding.
"Whatever you do, don't move. Make sure everyone is safe . You know what I'm capable of."
Kaelen already retracted his gun.
"Stay in the car Alessia. Don't move till I'm back.
Alessia was already moving as she saw a man on the entrance bleeding.
"I said stay in the car. Kaelen, let's move."
"You don't have the right to control me. I don't take orders from men who don't know the difference between a server and a tension pneumothorax"
Valerius and Kaelen moved.
Alessia immediately took her medical bag and went for the man who was breathing heavily on the entrance of the door.
Behind her she heard Lucian's sharp intake of breath.
" Kaelen, make yourself useful right now." She commanded without looking up. "Come over here and hold pressure over the femoral artery."
"Lucian, if you want him to survive we need to leave this place and move to the Nest. Now."
The transition to the next was a blur. The car was driven by Lucian and it was at high speed.
"Clear the table. Remove everything! Lucian commanded two men who were at the edge of the room.
The two men moved over in a hurry and rushed towards the man Alessia stabilized on the floor.
The smell of smoke still clung to Lucian's coat as the steel doors of the Nest ground shut behind them.
Kaelen immediately stepped into her path blocking her view.
"Back off doctor. We treat our own men."
"Kaelen she is the boss." Lucian growled.
"I can see you don't like your life." Alessia stepped closer and her eyes moved to the side of his neck.
" You have a slight tremor on your right hand. Your carotid artery is jumping from here it's very visible. I would be less worried about anything if I were you. A stroke is more likely to happen if you continue like this. Now move before he bleeds out."
"Kaelen just step back." He walked towards them, his eyes settling on Alessia.
"She wasn't threatening you, don't take it too personal. She was trying to educate you."
His voice became low. " Your father told me he was sending his greatest weapon and I didn't realize he meant someone who holds the power of life and death in her hands."
"I'm sorry boss." Kaelen muttered.
"Dr. Alessia, are you ready?.
Valerius didn't get any answer instead she moved away fast.
She touched the wound in the man's upper thighs and whispered " The bullet isn't here anymore."
Valerius stepped closer. " What do you mean it's not there? He was shot over there, it's visible."
It entered the femoral vein. It's a venous bullet . It's traveling, Lucian. If it hits his heart, he will be dead."
She grabbed an ultrasound probe, sliding it up the man's torso. "Kaelen! Press down on the iliac vein. Hard! Lucian, hold his shoulder. Be fast or it's over for him."
She didn't wait for them to steady him completely, she made an incision with steady hands.
The scalpel flashed and blood hit her cheeks and her lab coat.
Clink.
The lead hit the tray.
She cleaned the injury, stripped off her gloves and exhaled.
" He will live. Just make sure he doesn't do anything stressful."
Valerius moved forward, hovering over the incision
"We need each other, Alessia. I'm the 'Ghost'; the only man your father trusted. You are the boss who knows how to use me so we both get what we want. I need a medical genius to make sure my men survive and you need the knowledge I will provide to make sure the New Nation doesn't step into our territories."
She looked into his eyes and held his gaze.
"Medical expertise and protection for you and your men. Then you provide knowledge and information"
Lucian smirked, " A Donna and her Ghost. It seems your father knows what he was doing when he left instructions for us to be a team. My men and servers are yours just to keep my men away from death ."
He bowed a little. " We have a deal then boss."
