I lightly wrapped my knuckles on the record shop's doorway. Jacob, who'd been too busy talking to a customer to hear the gentle chime above the door when I opened it, looked up at me with a smile.
"Lee! Did you bring-"
I lifted a drink carrier to eye level and Jacob grinned.
"I knew I could count on you!"
The other customer nodded politely to me as they squeezed past me in the narrow aisle. I returned their smile then turned my attention back to Jacob. He set the tray from the cash register on the counter between us.
"Thank you, but the drink was only five bucks."
Jacob laughed flatly and rolled his eyes, "It's part of closing duties."
"Yeah, I know," I lifted Jacob's drink from the carrier and slid it to his side of the counter.
Jacob eyed the drink with clear desire but remained focused on his task. He counted out each bill then scribbled a number on a pad before finally shoving all the bills into a pouch and tossing it into a safe under the counter.
