Chapter 60 - 059 David's Goliath

We didn't talk through the whole walk home. As soon as the door to the greenhouse closed we fell into an uneasy silence. 

Kay stared at his feet pensively as if he were puzzling out the mysteries of the universe. My lips felt like they'd been stitched together. I was sure if I tried to open my mouth something would break. 

So I kept my silence and he kept his. The only sound between us was the rising and falling roar of the wind. 

The moment we stepped into the apartment Kay shut himself up in his room. I stared at his closed door. It had a poster on it. Had that always been there? How had I never noticed it before? 

Eventually, after becoming certain the print of Michael Angelo's David wouldn't spring to life and begin imparting Kay's secrets onto me, I wandered into my own room. As I went to close the door I hesitated. 

The apartment outside looked impossibly large. A hungry emptiness ready to swallow me whole. 

I left the door cracked.
