The lock to Kay's apartment slid shut with a satisfying thunk. I glanced back and forth in the landing for what felt like the one hundredth time. After confirming yet again that we were alone I asked the question I'd been holding onto since I first saw Xavier that morning.
"Who's leaving the letters for me?"
"Pardon?" Xavier asked in the most suspicious way possible.
"Since when do you say pardon?" I arched an eyebrow critically.
Xavier shrugged, still avoiding my gaze, "I'm well read."
"Sure," I conceded, following it up instantly with, "But that doesn't mean you act like it."
"You're cruel," Xavier frowned.
I shrugged unsympathetically. It's not like I was asking him for any sinister reason.
"I just want to talk to them."
Xavier remained unconvinced, "Talk to them or talk to them?"
"If you don't tell me I'll be having a talk with you."
"You're surprisingly scary for a walking beanpole."
