Time passed differently in the car. I couldn't say if it was slower or faster but it was certainly different. For the first leg of the drive we sat in absolute silence. The rattling sound from the unmaintained roads wasn't even loud enough to drown out the quiet.
After a fifteen minute staring contest with the radio dial(I lost) I snapped my head down and pretended to be reading on my phone. In reality the words blurred together as nausea twisted in my stomach. The tiny motion detection dots did little to ease my discomfort. It was only when I could taste bile in the back of my throat.
I slammed my hand against the dash three times before clamping it over my mouth. Kay instantly understood and pulled over onto the shoulder of the high way.
The moment the wheels stopped moving I was tumbling out of the car like an action movie hero. Only instead of a cool slide with a side of covering fire I fell to my hands and knees and wretched into the overgrown, dead, invasive grass.
