Chapter 27 - no last name

Chapter: The Mansion with No Last Name

(Jay's POV)

The first time I followed Serina and Kaizer, I thought they lived in a simple apartment.

I was wrong.

Very wrong.

Their driver had arrived within minutes after we left the café near their building. A long black car stopped in front of us, and Kaizer simply opened the door like it was the most normal thing in the world.

Ten minutes later…

We were standing in front of a massive mansion in Manhattan.

Not just big.

Ridiculously big.

Tall iron gates.

A long driveway.

Private gardens.

Security cameras placed so carefully that most people wouldn't even notice them.

I had seen wealthy houses before.

But this?

This screamed old money and power.

I stood there for a moment, slightly amused.

"So you two just casually invited a stranger to your mansion."

Serina smiled as she walked toward the entrance.

"You're not a stranger anymore."

That was the beginning.

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks into months.

And somehow…

Visiting their mansion became normal.

Sometimes after work I would drive there instead of going back to my penthouse.

Serina would already be in the kitchen giving orders to the chefs even though she didn't need to.

Kaizer would usually be in his office reading reports or watching financial markets like he owned half of them.

Which, honestly…

He probably did.

The strange thing was…

They never treated me like a guest.

Not even once.

It felt more like…

Family.

"Jay, sit."

Serina placed a cup of tea in front of me one afternoon while we sat in the massive living room.

"You work too much."

"Everyone keeps saying that."

"Because it's true."

Kaizer looked up from his tablet.

"You remind me of someone."

I leaned back on the couch.

"Who?"

Serina and Kaizer exchanged a glance.

Then Serina smiled softly.

"Our son."

That caught my attention.

"You have a son?"

Serina nodded.

"Yes."

"He's a year older than you."

Kaizer added calmly,

"He's currently in London."

"Running our company."

I raised an eyebrow.

"You have a company big enough to run from London?"

Serina laughed.

"Not just one."

Kaizer didn't say anything, but his slight smirk confirmed it.

I studied them carefully.

They were clearly billionaires.

Powerful ones.

Yet they introduced themselves to me like normal people.

No last names.

No titles.

Just Serina and Kaizer.

"Your son must be very busy then," I said.

Serina sighed dramatically.

"Always."

Kaizer nodded.

"He's been running things for years."

"What kind of company?"

Serina waved her hand.

"International."

That wasn't very specific.

But I didn't push.

After all…

I wasn't exactly honest about my own business either.

Serina leaned forward slightly.

"You two would get along."

"Oh?"

"Yes."

"You're both very stubborn."

Kaizer added,

"And very cold when it comes to work."

I smirked slightly.

"Sounds charming."

Serina laughed.

"He used to argue with us all the time when he was younger."

"Still does," Kaizer added.

"Especially with his brothers."

"Brothers?"

Serina nodded.

"Yes."

"Two younger ones."

"Keigan and Keiran."

For a moment…

Something about those names felt strangely familiar.

But I couldn't place why.

Serina continued,

"Our son's name is—"

Suddenly—

A loud noise interrupted.

A phone started ringing on the table.

Serina looked down.

"Oh."

Kaizer frowned slightly.

The moment passed.

And somehow…

They never finished saying his name.

Not that day.

Not the next time either.

Every time they started talking about him…

Something interrupted.

A phone call.

A visitor.

A sudden change in topic.

It happened so many times that eventually I stopped asking.

But one thing became very clear.

They talked about their son…

The way parents talk about someone they're incredibly proud of.

And sometimes…

The way Serina looked at me felt strangely emotional.

Like she was seeing something familiar.

One evening while we were sitting in the garden, Serina suddenly said softly,

"You remind me of the girl he used to talk about."

I looked at her.

"Oh?"

She nodded slowly.

"Yes."

"She sounded a lot like you."

That made me curious.

"What happened to her?"

Serina's expression softened slightly.

"They… separated."

Something about the way she said that felt heavy.

"Why?" I asked.

Kaizer answered quietly this time.

"Complicated reasons."

Serina sighed.

"But he never stopped loving her."

For some reason…

My chest felt tight for a second.

I quickly ignored it.

"That's unfortunate."

Serina looked at me carefully.

"Yes."

Then she said something that made the air feel strangely serious.

"Some people are meant to find each other again."

Kaizer glanced at her.

Then at me.

But neither of them explained what they meant.

And strangely…

I didn't ask.

Because something inside me felt like asking…

Would change everything.
