From Kiana the Lord Ravager Onward: A Grand Fabricated History
Author: Better Hang Myself Than Write
Very quickly, the three of them temporarily abandoned this Simulated Universe attempt and instead began yet another round of examinations focused on memory.
Brimming with determination, Herta had even been prepared to call in a memokeeper to help.
But the result was astonishingly unexpected.
They still found absolutely nothing.
"How is that even possible?!"
Fiddling with the memory-inspection apparatus, Herta once again demonstrated what it meant for a genius to start overheating.
"Mmm… maybe it isn't my memory that's the problem after all?"
Kiana smoothly offered her own suggestion.
After all, she had really only opened her mouth and casually made up a few things. If Herta had actually managed to detect something concrete, that would have been the truly supernatural part.
At Kiana's words, Herta fell into silence.
There was no question that Kiana's memory had no problems whatsoever.
Although Herta was not a memokeeper, she was still completely confident that in this sort of situation, no memory-type method beneath the level of an Aeon could possibly escape her notice.
But if that were true, then she had to consider a possibility so horrifying that the more she thought about it, the worse it became.
Herta spoke again.
"Ruan Mei. Your turn now."
She had decided to perform an examination on her own memory as well.
Ruan Mei immediately understood what Herta meant.
"Herta, are you sure you want to do this?"
"I'm sure." Herta's tone became unusually serious.
"If even my memory has been tampered with, then the nature of this whole matter changes completely."
Ruan Mei said nothing further and simply walked up to the machine, adjusting the parameters.
Time passed second by second.
And once again, the test concluded very quickly.
"So? What did it show?" Kiana asked softly.
Even though she had known the answer from the very beginning, she still had to put on the proper performance.
And sure enough, Herta gave the answer that had long since been inevitable.
"…From the standpoint of memory, there is absolutely no problem."
"But we did find something extremely strange."
As Herta's brows slowly relaxed, a different kind of power suddenly welled up from within her.
And the Path that power belonged to was none other than Enigmata.
Seeing that, both Herta and Ruan Mei could not help but frown.
Things were beginning to head toward the worst possible conclusion…
"Ruan Mei, you try it too."
Herta had Ruan Mei undergo the same process.
But the result was identical.
Still unwilling to accept it, the two of them even brought in several staff members from the space station.
Yet the outcome remained the same.
No issues whatsoever could be found in their memory, but traces of the power of Enigmata were discovered on every one of them.
No good. Go find a few volunteers down on the Blue!
Herta still refused to give up.
Unfortunately, the result remained exactly the same.
At that point, no matter how unbelievable it felt, the two geniuses had finally begun to accept that terrifying possibility.
[Ding! Your lie has gradually begun to convince Herta and Ruan Mei. The lie becomes partially real. Authority over Erudition has risen dramatically, the power of Enigmata has deepened, and you have gained 30000 Fabricated History Points!]
[Remaining Fabricated History Points: 52009]
!!!!!!
Kiana nearly broke character on the spot.
Fifty-two thousand!
A full fifty-two thousand!
She fought with all her might to keep her expression under control, terrified that one wrong move would make her burst out laughing.
What power bank? This was clearly a nuclear fusion power plant!
She had never imagined that this lie would directly net her 30,000 points in one shot.
She had worked herself half to death before, scraping points together for so long, and even then she had only earned around half of what this random stroke of inspiration had just brought in.
At this rate, she already had enough points to exchange for Judgment of Shamash!
And not only that—Theresa's persona had now actually surpassed Cecilia's in strength, reaching a level close to Kiana's own.
One had to remember that Kiana's persona had already gone through multiple upgrades, and on top of that she had spent a whole ten thousand points buying two Herrscher Cores for it.
At this level of strength, Kiana felt like she could already beat up both Herta and Ruan Mei by herself.
Could it be because the scope of the false history she had fabricated this time was simply too large?
Kiana began silently pondering the reason behind this gigantic windfall.
Meanwhile, on Herta and Ruan Mei's side, the concern only continued to grow.
Herta spoke, still visibly shaken.
"Even if this is Enigmata's handiwork, it's still far too absurd."
"A memory alteration covering the entire galaxy, while bypassing the perception of geniuses like us… If something can be done on this scale, then the only one who could have achieved it is probably the Aeon of Enigmata itself."
Because according to Herta's understanding of the Path of Enigmata, falsehoods born from that Path would normally collapse the instant they were exposed.
But now?
Even though they had not regained their memories, and even though they had already learned the truth from Kiana's mouth, the power of Enigmata still hadn't vanished.
Why?
What exactly had this suspected second seat of the Genius Society done to end up being erased by Mythus itself?
"No… that's still not right."
Herta suddenly shook her head.
"Although we don't know why Kiana is unaffected by Enigmata's influence, judging by the situation, the erasure of history must have happened after Kiana fell asleep."
But over the past ten-plus Amber Eras, shouldn't there have been no especially major events in the galaxy?
…All right. Herta abruptly realized she had trapped herself in a dead-end line of thought.
If Enigmata had already shrouded history, then even if something truly enormous had happened during that span of time, nobody would remember it now anyway.
And as soon as that realization hit her, Herta felt a wave of frustration.
She had always told Ruan Mei that failure was actually a wonderfully fortunate thing for a genius.
But honestly speaking, when something clearly world-shaking had happened in the galaxy, yet you had been foolishly stripped of the memory of it and could recall absolutely nothing—
how was that not the harder thing to accept?
But what could she even do in this situation?
If the one responsible for sealing off the whole galaxy was truly Mythus, then the only way to get an answer would be to ask Nous directly.
And Nous was not the sort of Aeon who would casually grant audience to someone.
Wait.
Ask Nous?
Herta suddenly remembered what they had originally been about to do.
That's right—if this really was Mythus's doing, then why not let Mythus answer for it personally?
She cleared her throat.
"Kiana. Given the current situation, you should understand things pretty well now. I assume you also really want to know what exactly happened to that aunt of yours, right?"
Kiana nodded very cooperatively.
Even though she didn't actually want to know all that badly, her current persona obviously wouldn't allow her to refuse.
And then Herta revealed her solution.
"You will play the role of Nous inside the Simulated Universe!"
