Chapter 33 - Chapter 31 - Lantern Light

Evening settled over the mountain terraces of Kumogakure.

Golden lanterns lit the walkways between the academy towers.

The sound of training had finally faded.

For once, the academy felt… calm.

Students moved between dorms, dining halls, and small courtyards across the campus.

The Challenger Tournament had made the academy livelier than usual.

Every night students debated matches like scholars arguing over ancient battles.

Tonight was no different.

The Dining Hall

Inside the academy dining hall, long wooden tables were filled with hungry students.

Bowls of steaming rice and grilled fish covered the tables.

Daigo Mizuta sat at the center of one group, laughing loudly.

"I'm telling you," he said, mouth half full, "that guy hit the ground so hard I thought the arena would cracked."

Across from him, Akari Mizuta rolled her eyes.

"You're exaggerating."

"No, I'm not."

Raizen sat beside them quietly eating.

Students at nearby tables kept glancing toward them.

Whispering.

Pointing.

The tournament had made certain names famous inside the academy.

Raizen noticed it but ignored it.

Daigo noticed it and loved it.

Akari pretended not to notice.

A group of younger students walked past their table nervously.

One of them whispered quietly.

"Those are the ones from the ranking board…"

Daigo grinned and waved.

They almost ran.

Akari sighed.

"You're making it worse."

Evening Training Fields

After dinner the academy courtyards came alive again.

Not official training.

Just students training for themselves.

Small groups sparred under lantern light.

Others practiced chakra control on water basins.

The atmosphere reminded Raizen of something.

Not a military camp.

Not exactly a school either.

Something in between.

A place where future shinobi grew together.

Akari watched one sparring group carefully.

"They're copying your punches."

Daigo looked over proudly.

"Good taste."

Raizen chuckled quietly.

The Quiet Library

Later that night, Raizen walked the familiar stone corridor toward the deeper sections of the academy.

Most students had already returned to their dorms.

The halls were quiet.

He passed through the normal library.

Then continued further.

Toward the heavy sealed doors.

The Storm Archives.

The instructor on duty glanced up from his scroll.

"You again."

Raizen nodded politely.

"Yes."

The instructor sighed.

"You're starting to worry the archivists."

Raizen waited patiently.

After a moment the instructor waved him through.

"Just don't steal anything."

The doors opened.

The Storm Archives

Inside, the air felt ancient.

Dusty scrolls lined towering shelves.

Raizen moved toward the section he had been studying recently.

Storm Release research.

He pulled out the familiar journal.

His father's handwriting filled the pages.

Arashi Tenrai.

The diagrams of elemental interaction still held his attention.

Lightning.

Wind.

Water.

Three elements.

Raizen studied the theory again.

Lightning provides power.

Wind controls direction.

Water stabilizes the storm.

It was brilliant.

But incomplete.

His father had never finished the research.

Raizen leaned back slightly.

A quiet thought formed.

Then I'll finish it.

Thunder rolled faintly in the distant mountains surrounding Kumogakure.

Raizen turned another page.

And noticed something strange.

A page he hadn't seen before.

A folded note hidden between the pages.

His father's handwriting again.

But this time the words were shorter.

More urgent.

If you are reading this…

Someone else has already found the Storm Archive.

Raizen frowned.

The message meant something disturbing.

His father hadn't hidden the research alone.

Someone else knew about it.

And somewhere inside the academy…

That person might still be here.
