Chapter 44 - Chapter 42 — The Last Exchange

The Challenger Arena of Kumogakure had grown completely quiet.

Students leaned forward in their seats.

Both fighters stood, breathing slightly heavier now.

Raizen Tenrai and Riku Seishin had been trading techniques for several minutes.

Neither had gained a decisive advantage.

Riku lowered his hands slowly.

His expression remained calm.

But his eyes were sharper now.

Focused.

Across from him, Raizen rolled his shoulders slightly.

Inside his mind Astra spoke quietly.

"Fatigue level increasing."

Raizen smirked faintly.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome."

Riku's Final Plan

Riku stepped forward slowly.

Not rushing.

Not attacking.

Just moving.

Raizen watched carefully.

Something felt different.

Then he noticed it.

Droplets.

Not many.

Just a few.

But they were positioned differently this time.

Not drifting.

Placed.

Strategically.

Astra spoke immediately.

"Possible trap configuration."

Raizen's eyes sharpened.

Of course it is.

The Sudden Attack

Riku moved.

Fast.

Faster than before.

His hand shot forward in a sharp strike.

Raizen blocked—

But the impact pushed him backward.

His foot landed on damp stone.

For a moment—

His balance slipped.

The trap.

Riku's second strike followed instantly.

A palm thrust aimed directly at Raizen's chest.

Students gasped.

"That's it!"

But Raizen moved.

Not perfectly.

Just enough.

His body shifted at the last moment.

The strike grazed his shoulder.

Inside his mind Astra spoke.

"Environmental disturbance detected."

Raizen's Heaven Pulse reacted.

A shift in air pressure.

The movement of droplets.

Just enough warning.

The Counter

Riku's eyes widened slightly.

Because Raizen hadn't just avoided the strike—

He stepped inside it.

Their bodies were suddenly close.

Too close for seals.

Too close for distance.

Only taijutsu.

Raizen's elbow moved.

Fast.

Controlled.

It stopped just inches from Riku's jaw.

Silence filled the arena.

The instructor stepped forward immediately.

"Match concluded."

For a moment—

No one spoke.

Then the crowd erupted.

Mixed Reactions

Some students jumped to their feet cheering.

"RAIZEN WON!"

Daigo Mizuta nearly fell over the railing.

"THAT WAS INSANE!"

Akari Mizuta nodded quietly.

"He adapted again."

But across the arena—

Not everyone looked pleased.

A few students shook their heads.

Others whispered quietly.

"He beat Riku too…"

"That's ridiculous…"

"He's getting too strong."

Rivalries were beginning to form.

A Quiet Rivalry

In the arena, Riku looked at Raizen for several seconds.

Then stepped back.

"You won."

Raizen lowered his arm.

"Barely."

Riku nodded slightly.

"That's enough."

For a moment—

It looked like he might say something more.

But instead—

He turned and walked away.

Not angry.

Not friendly.

Just thoughtful.

A different kind of rivalry had been born.

Astra's New Proposal

Later that evening, in the dormitory, Raizen sat at his desk reviewing a scroll.

Inside his mind Astra spoke again.

"I have completed a new analysis."

Raizen leaned back in his chair.

"About what?"

"Your training efficiency."

Raizen raised an eyebrow.

"Go on."

A brief mental outline appeared in his mind.

Optimized Daily Training Structure

Morning

20 minutes — hand seal speed drills

30 minutes — chakra control exercises

Afternoon

45 minutes — taijutsu refinement

15 minutes — recovery breathing

Evening

30 minutes — Storm Archive study

20 minutes — reaction training

Night

Light stretching and rest

Raizen blinked.

"That's… specific."

Astra replied calmly.

"Efficiency increased by approximately thirty-seven percent."

Raizen chuckled.

"You've been busy."

A brief pause followed.

Then Astra said something slightly different than usual.

"I want to help you improve."

Raizen's expression softened slightly.

"I know."

Outside the dormitory windows,

lightning flickered across the distant mountains surrounding Kumogakure.

The Challenger Tournament continued.

Rivalries were forming.

And quietly—

Raizen's growth had just taken a step forward.
