Chapter 50 - Chapter 48 — Storm Against Steel

The clang of metal echoed across the arena.

Kunai scraped against kunai as Raizen Tenrai twisted his wrist and redirected the strike.

Across from him, Taro Kurogane moved like someone born with steel in his hands.

Three more shuriken spun toward Raizen.

Fast.

Accurate.

Relentless.

Raizen shifted sideways—

A faint disturbance brushed his senses.

The blades passed a fraction of a second later.

A senbon flashed from his fingers.

Taro tilted his head.

The needle skimmed past his cheek.

The crowd reacted immediately.

Students leaned forward.

This fight felt different.

Not overwhelming power.

Not flashy chakra.

Just precision.

Weapon Specialist

Taro smiled.

"You're good."

Another kunai spun into his hand.

"But you're fighting my game."

He moved suddenly.

Low.

Fast.

A kunai thrust toward Raizen's ribs.

Raizen caught it, sliding the blade aside and stepping out of range—

But Taro didn't stop.

A second kunai drove forward from his off-hand.

Raizen slipped back—

Too late.

Metal scraped across his shirt.

A thin cut opened along his side.

The stands erupted.

"FIRST BLOOD!"

Daigo shouted.

Akari Mizuta's gaze sharpened.

"Taro's dual-weapon control is excellent."

A faint line of red marked Raizen's side.

Shallow.

But real.

Inside his mind Astra spoke

.

"Damage assessment: minor."

"However—reaction delay detected."

Raizen didn't respond.

But he adjusted.

Tactical Adjustment

Raizen stepped back.

His thoughts sharpened.

Astra continued:

"Opponent excels in layered pressure."

"Dual-weapon rhythm confirmed."

"Recommendation: disrupt tempo."

Raizen flicked his wrist.

Five senbon appeared between his fingers.

The crowd barely saw it.

They flew.

Taro reacted instantly.

Clink.

Clink.

Clink.

Two deflected.

He twisted aside—

But one grazed his sleeve.

A thin tear split the fabric.

The final needle buried into the arena wall.

Taro glanced down.

Then grinned.

"Good."

"Now we're actually fighting."

Range Control

Taro jumped back.

His hands blurred.

Shuriken exploded outward in a spinning fan.

Raizen moved.

Not just reacting—

Reading.

A shift in air.

A pattern.

Two senbon intercepted incoming blades.

Another shuriken skimmed past his shoulder.

A fourth clipped his pant leg.

Students gasped.

The pressure was building.

Taro's voice rang out.

"You like those needles."

"Let's see how they hold up."

Another volley filled the air.

Storm Instinct

Raizen's breathing remained steady.

His body moved before thought.

Before sight.

The air shifted—

He stepped.

A fraction early.

Senbon flashed again.

Two struck shuriken mid-air.

Another drove into the ground in front of Taro.

Taro's eyes narrowed slightly.

"You're not just reacting…"

"You're reading it."

Raizen didn't answer.

But inside—

Something was aligning.

Close Combat

Taro surged forward.

Distance vanished.

Kunai slashed downward.

Raizen met it.

Their blades locked.

For a moment—

Stillness.

Then Taro twisted his wrist.

Pressure shifted.

Raizen felt it instantly.

Their weapons broke apart.

Taro's knee drove upward.

Raizen pivoted aside.

Barely.

Taro continued.

No pause.

Kunai flashed toward Raizen's shoulder.

Raizen ducked low.

Countered with a stab.

Taro blocked.

Metal rang sharply.

Faster now.

Sharper.

No wasted motion.

Arena Tension

The arena had gone quiet.

This wasn't a quick match anymore.

This was control.

Timing.

Precision.

Akari crossed her arms.

"He's adapting mid-exchange."

Daigo grinned.

"Yeah."

"But that weapon guy's still ahead."

Around them, fewer students were cheering.

More were watching.

Calculating.

Astra's Calculation

Inside Raizen's mind Astra processed rapidly.

"Opponent weapon proficiency: exceptional."

"Experience advantage confirmed."

"Current trajectory: sustained pressure loss probability increasing."

A brief pause.

Then—

"Alternative strategy required."

Raizen's stance shifted.

Subtle.

Intentional.

He understood.

If this stayed a pure weapon duel—

He would fall behind.

Storm Rising

Raizen exhaled slowly.

His fingers dipped into the pouch at his leg.

More senbon slid into place.

But this time—

He didn't throw them.

Taro noticed immediately.

His eyes narrowed.

"Oh?"

"Something changed."

Raizen gave a faint smile.

"Maybe."

The wind shifted through the arena.

Clouds gathered above the mountain peaks of Kumogakure.

The air felt different.

Tighter.

And across the stands—

Students leaned forward without realizing why.

Because Raizen Tenrai wasn't just adapting anymore.

He was about to change the flow of the fight.

And the clash between storm and steel—

Was about to escalate.
