Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Countdown Begins

The numbers on Ayesha's phone continued ticking down relentlessly.

47:58:41

Each passing second felt heavier than the last.

The mysterious message—"Welcome to Level Two"—was still fresh in their minds. Whoever was behind this game wasn't just watching them. They were controlling the pace of the war.

Ayesha sat quietly in the safe house, staring at the glowing countdown.

Ryan paced back and forth across the room.

"I hate this," he muttered.

Arian looked up from his laptop.

"Hate what?"

Ryan gestured toward Ayesha's phone.

"This whole game. They're pulling the strings, and we're dancing like puppets."

Ayesha finally spoke.

"Then we stop dancing."

Both men looked at her.

Her voice was calm, but her eyes were burning with determination.

"We take control."

Decoding the Coordinates

Arian began analyzing the coordinates that had arrived with the message.

Within minutes, the map appeared on his screen.

Ryan leaned closer.

"Where is that?"

Arian zoomed in.

"A shipping port on the outskirts of the city."

Ayesha frowned.

"A port?"

Arian nodded slowly.

"And according to the files… the Shadow Council has used that location before."

Ryan crossed his arms.

"That means it's definitely a trap."

Ayesha stood up.

"Of course it's a trap."

Ryan raised an eyebrow.

"And you still want to go?"

Ayesha's answer came without hesitation.

"Yes."

Preparing for the Unknown

An hour later, they were ready.

Weapons checked.

Communication devices secured.

Escape routes mapped.

Arian looked at Ayesha seriously.

"Once we go there, we might not get another chance to retreat."

Ayesha met his gaze.

"Then we don't retreat."

Ryan chuckled softly.

"That's the spirit."

But behind his smile, there was worry.

Because this time…

The enemy had prepared the battlefield.

The Silent Port

The port was eerily quiet when they arrived.

Massive cargo containers were stacked everywhere like metal towers.

The ocean waves crashed softly against the docks.

But something about the place felt wrong.

Too quiet.

Too empty.

Ryan whispered,

"Where are the guards?"

Arian scanned the area.

"That's exactly what worries me."

Ayesha stepped forward cautiously.

Her instincts were screaming again.

Then—

A loud metallic clang echoed across the port.

Floodlights suddenly exploded to life.

Blinding white light surrounded them.

Ryan cursed.

"Ambush!"

Dozens of armed operatives emerged from behind the containers.

They had been waiting.

The Battle

Gunfire erupted instantly.

Ryan pushed Ayesha behind a container and returned fire.

Arian moved quickly, disabling a nearby security turret.

"Stay low!" he shouted.

Ayesha grabbed a fallen guard's weapon.

Her heart pounded wildly, but her hands remained steady.

She fired carefully, forcing the attackers back.

The fight was intense.

Explosions echoed across the port.

Bullets ricocheted off steel containers.

And yet…

The enemies kept coming.

Ryan realized something terrifying.

"There are too many of them!"

Arian looked around quickly.

"They're herding us."

Ayesha frowned.

"Herding us where?"

Then suddenly—

A powerful spotlight focused directly on her.

A slow clap echoed through the speakers.

A familiar voice filled the air.

"Impressive, Ayesha."

The mysterious man from the rooftop stepped out onto a raised platform above the docks.

His face was finally visible.

Sharp.

Calm.

Dangerously intelligent.

Ryan aimed his gun.

"You're the mastermind?"

The man smiled faintly.

"No."

Ayesha stared at him.

"Then who are you?"

The man tilted his head slightly.

"Let's just say… I'm the one who makes sure the game stays interesting."

The True Trap

Suddenly, the platform behind the man opened.

A large screen lit up.

On it appeared a shocking image.

A bound prisoner.

Bruised.

Unconscious.

Ayesha gasped.

"No…"

Ryan froze.

Arian's expression darkened.

Because the prisoner on the screen was someone they never expected to see again.

Malik.

The man they believed had disappeared after their previous battle.

The mastermind's voice echoed across the port.

"Your next mission is simple."

A countdown appeared on the screen.

01:00:00

"One hour," the man continued calmly.

"Save him… or let him die."

Ayesha's hands clenched into fists.

Ryan whispered,

"This is insane."

But the man wasn't finished.

He looked directly at Ayesha.

"And remember… every choice has consequences."

Then the screen went dark.

The enemies retreated.

Leaving the three of them standing alone in the silent port.

And the clock ticking.

59:58

Cliffhanger

Ayesha stared at the countdown.

One hour.

One impossible choice.

Arian finally spoke quietly.

"If we save Malik… it could be another trap."

Ryan nodded grimly.

"And if we don't…"

Ayesha finished the sentence softly.

"…then someone dies because of us."

The clock continued counting down.

And for the first time…

Ayesha realized something terrifying.

The mastermind wasn't just testing her strength.

He was testing her heart
