The bookstore felt unusually quiet.
Rain tapped softly against the windows.
Ethan leaned against the counter, watching Liya with thoughtful eyes.
"So," he said calmly, "let's review."
Liya crossed her arms.
"Go ahead."
"In every loop… we meet at exactly 4:00 PM."
"Yes."
"And after that, fate tries to kill me."
"Yes."
"But when I finally choose to die…"
"…the loop still resets."
She nodded slowly.
"That's what happened."
Ethan tapped the counter with his finger.
"So that means my death isn't the goal."
Liya felt a strange chill.
"Then what is?"
Ethan looked directly at her.
"The meeting."
Silence filled the bookstore.
Liya frowned.
"That doesn't make sense."
"Maybe not yet."
He walked slowly between the bookshelves, thinking.
"If fate only wanted me dead…"
"…the loop would've ended when I died."
"Yes."
"But it didn't."
"So something else has to happen."
Liya leaned against the counter.
"You think the loop exists because of us?"
"Exactly."
He stopped walking.
"And not just because we meet."
Her heart beat a little faster.
"Then why?"
Ethan turned back toward her.
"What happens between us before midnight?"
She blinked.
"What do you mean?"
"In all the loops you remember…"
"…what do we actually do?"
Liya thought about it.
They ran from accidents.
Avoided disasters.
Tested fate.
Survived chaos.
But something else always happened too.
They talked.
A lot.
They shared stories.
Joked about danger.
Learned about each other.
Liya slowly realized something.
"…We get closer."
Ethan smiled slightly.
"Exactly."
Her stomach tightened.
"You think the loop exists so we can… bond?"
"Possibly."
"That's ridiculous."
"Is it?"
He pointed toward her.
"You've known me for twenty-six versions of this day."
"Yes."
"And I only know you for one."
"That's how the loop works."
"But every time we meet…"
"…you fall a little more into the story."
Liya's face warmed slightly.
"That's not true."
"Really?"
He leaned closer to the counter.
"Then why were you crying when I stepped under the tower?"
Her silence answered the question.
Ethan's voice softened.
"Liya…"
"…what if fate isn't trying to kill me?"
She looked up slowly.
"Then what is it doing?"
He smiled faintly.
"What if fate is trying to make us realize something?"
Her chest tightened again.
"Like what?"
Before he could answer—
The bell above the door rang again.
Ding.
Both of them turned.
A customer stepped into the bookstore.
A middle-aged woman holding a wet umbrella.
"Sorry," she said politely.
"Do you sell travel journals?"
Liya blinked.
That wasn't supposed to happen.
In every previous loop…
No one else entered the store at this moment.
Ethan noticed her expression.
"That's new, isn't it?"
"…Yes."
The woman walked slowly between the shelves.
Browsing casually.
Completely unaware of the conversation that had just happened.
Liya's mind raced.
The pattern had changed.
For the first time in twenty-seven loops…
Something new had appeared.
Ethan's eyes lit up slightly.
"Well," he said quietly,
"That's interesting."
"Why?"
He looked back at her.
"Because it means the timeline just changed."
Liya felt a spark of hope rise inside her chest.
"Do you think we're getting closer to the answer?"
Ethan glanced toward the clock on the bookstore wall.
4:07 PM.
Then he smiled again.
"I think the story just started a new chapter." ⏳
