Chapter 42 - The Message From Two Months Ago

The night outside felt heavier now.

Mira and him stepped out of Skyline Residency and stood quietly on the street.

The city lights looked the same as before.

Cars passed by.

People walked normally.

But inside Mira's mind, everything felt completely different.

They had been here before.

They had talked before.

They had even argued before.

And somehow…

Both of them had forgotten.

"Do you really think I expected you?" he asked after a few moments.

Mira crossed her arms, thinking.

"In the footage… you didn't look surprised."

"That doesn't prove anything."

"It proves something."

He sighed slightly.

"Maybe I was just calm."

"You're always calm."

He smiled faintly.

"That's true."

But Mira's mind was still racing.

Something about this situation felt incomplete.

Like they were missing one last piece of the puzzle.

"What happened after that night?" she asked.

He shook his head.

"I don't remember."

"You don't remember anything?"

"Nothing after the argument."

Mira felt the same frustration rising again.

How could two people forget the exact same moment?

They began walking slowly down the street.

The cool night breeze helped clear her thoughts a little.

Then suddenly—

Her phone buzzed in her pocket.

She pulled it out absentmindedly.

A notification.

Not a message.

Just a reminder from an app.

"Storage Almost Full – Clean Old Files."

Mira rolled her eyes.

"Not now."

She opened the gallery to delete a few things.

Old screenshots.

Random photos.

Work documents.

As she scrolled through the gallery…

Something strange caught her eye.

A screenshot.

Dated two months ago.

Mira frowned.

"I don't remember taking this."

"What is it?" he asked.

She zoomed in slightly.

And her heart immediately began beating faster.

It was a chat screenshot.

From a messaging app.

And the contact name at the top of the screen said:

"Unknown."

Mira's fingers trembled slightly as she opened the image fully.

The chat showed only a few messages.

Unknown:

"Are you sure about this?"

Mira:

"Yes."

Unknown:

"If we meet again after tonight, it will mean fate wanted it."

Mira's heart skipped.

Those words.

They were almost the same as the sentence from the security footage.

She kept reading.

Mira:

"Then let's leave it to fate."

The final message appeared at the bottom.

Unknown:

"Rooftop. 9 PM."

Mira felt a chill run through her entire body.

She slowly looked up at him.

"You need to see this."

He leaned closer.

She showed him the screenshot.

For a moment…

He said nothing.

Then his expression changed.

Not confusion.

Not surprise.

But recognition.

"I remember this," he said quietly.

Mira's eyes widened.

"You do?"

"Yes."

He looked at the screenshot again.

Then said something that made Mira's heart stop.

"That number…"

He pulled his phone out of his pocket.

Opened his contacts.

Then turned the screen toward her.

At the top of his contact list…

Was a saved name.

Mira.

Her phone number.

Mira stared at it in disbelief.

"You had my number?"

He nodded slowly.

"Yes."

"But how?" she asked.

He looked just as confused now.

"I don't remember."

The strange silence between them returned again.

But this time, the mystery felt deeper.

More complicated.

Because now they knew something important.

They hadn't just met on the rooftop.

They had been talking before that night.

And somehow…

Both of them had forgotten the entire connection.

Mira stared at the screenshot again.

Then she whispered something that made the situation even more unsettling.

"There's one more strange thing."

"What?"

She zoomed in on the contact number labeled "Unknown."

Then she showed it to him.

"Look carefully."

He frowned.

Then his eyes widened slightly.

Because the number looked familiar.

Very familiar.

In fact…

It was his number.

But with one digit different.

Mira whispered slowly.

"This message wasn't sent from your phone."

She looked at him.

"Then who sent it?"

The mystery had just grown bigger.
