Chapter 41 - The Words Mira Said That Night

The security room felt unusually quiet.

Mira's eyes were still fixed on the screen where the footage had stopped.

Two months ago.

She had been there.

On that rooftop.

Talking to him.

Arguing with him.

And yet…

She had absolutely no memory of it.

"That's impossible," Mira whispered.

Her voice sounded distant, even to herself.

"How can I forget something like that?"

The security guard leaned back in his chair.

"Well, people forget things," he said casually.

"But forgetting an argument? That's strange."

Mira barely heard him.

Her mind was stuck on the same moment.

The last few seconds of the footage.

The moment when she had stopped near the staircase.

Turned around.

And said something.

"What did I say?" she murmured.

He looked at the screen again.

"We need to see that part one more time."

The guard nodded.

"Alright."

He rewound the video.

The timeline slid back a few minutes.

The footage began playing again.

Mira watched carefully this time.

Trying to notice every small detail.

There she was.

Her past self standing near the table.

Talking quickly.

Her movements tense.

Clearly upset.

Then she turned away.

Walking toward the staircase.

Exactly like before.

Mira held her breath.

The moment was coming.

Her past self stopped near the door.

Slowly turned around.

And looked directly at him.

Even though the camera had no sound…

Mira could clearly see the words forming on her lips.

She spoke one short sentence.

The footage ended again.

Silence filled the room.

Mira's heart was beating loudly now.

"Can you zoom in?" she asked the guard.

The guard shrugged.

"I can try."

He clicked a few buttons.

The image zoomed closer to Mira's face on the screen.

The quality wasn't perfect.

But her lips were clearer now.

Mira leaned closer.

Trying to read them.

Her mind slowly began matching the shapes of the words.

One by one.

Her eyes widened.

"No…"

He looked at her.

"What is it?"

Mira swallowed.

"I think I know what I said."

"Tell me."

She stared at the screen again.

Her voice barely above a whisper.

"I said…"

She hesitated.

Because the sentence felt strange.

Almost unbelievable.

Then she finally spoke.

"If we meet again… it means this was fate."

The words hung in the air.

He stared at her.

"Are you sure?"

Mira nodded slowly.

"Yes."

The guard looked confused.

"That doesn't sound like an argument."

But Mira's mind was already racing.

Because that sentence explained something.

Something terrifying.

"If we meet again…" she repeated quietly.

He suddenly understood too.

"You mean…"

Mira looked at him.

Her eyes filled with realization.

"That night…"

She said slowly.

"We decided not to meet again."

Silence filled the room.

The guard looked between them.

"Why would you do that?"

Mira shook her head.

"I don't know."

But the real question wasn't why they decided that.

The real question was something much worse.

"If we promised not to meet again…"

Mira whispered.

She looked at him.

Her voice trembling slightly.

"Then why are we meeting again now?"

For a moment, neither of them had an answer.

Then he said something quietly.

"Because maybe…"

He paused.

"…we forgot the promise."

Mira's heart tightened.

Because if that was true…

Then something had erased that memory.

And now fate had brought them back to the same rooftop.

Despite their decision.

The guard suddenly stood up.

"Well, whatever mystery you two are solving…"

He gestured toward the door.

"You should probably solve it somewhere else."

Mira nodded absentmindedly.

"Right."

They walked out of the security room in silence.

Back into the quiet lobby.

But just before reaching the exit…

Mira stopped walking.

Something else from the footage suddenly returned to her mind.

A small detail she hadn't noticed before.

She turned to him slowly.

"There's something strange."

"What?"

"In the video…"

She said carefully.

"You didn't look surprised to see me."

He frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Mira's voice became quieter.

More uneasy.

"You looked like you were expecting me."

For the first time…

He looked genuinely confused.

"Expecting you?"

Mira nodded slowly.

"Yes."

And suddenly…

A terrifying thought appeared in her mind.

"What if…"

She hesitated.

"What if you knew we would meet again?"

He stared at her.

Completely silent.

Because that possibility…

Changed everything.
