Chapter 44 - The Person Mira Trusted

Mira stood completely still under the streetlight.

Her heart was beating faster now.

The memory was still unclear…

But the voice in her mind felt familiar.

Too familiar.

"I think I know who sent the message," she said quietly.

He looked at her immediately.

"Who?"

Mira hesitated.

Because the name forming in her mind felt almost impossible.

"I'm not completely sure yet," she said.

"But the voice I remembered…"

She took a slow breath.

"It sounded like someone I talk to almost every day."

He frowned.

"A friend?"

Mira shook her head.

"No."

She looked toward the road as if trying to organize her thoughts.

"Someone from work."

He seemed slightly surprised.

"A coworker?"

"Yes."

Mira opened her phone again.

Her fingers moved quickly through her contacts list.

She stopped on one name.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

Riya.

"She's the only one who knew everything," Mira said slowly.

"Everything?" he asked.

"Yes."

Mira began explaining.

"Riya sits next to me in the office."

"We work in the same team."

"She knows when I'm stressed."

"When I overthink."

"When I listen to music during work."

He nodded slightly.

"So she knows you well."

"Very well."

Mira scrolled through her gallery again.

Looking at old photos.

Office events.

Lunch breaks.

Team outings.

In many of those photos…

Riya was standing beside her.

Laughing.

Talking.

Being her closest colleague.

"She also knew about my birthday," Mira continued.

"She even asked me two months ago what my plans were."

He crossed his arms.

"And what did you tell her?"

Mira thought for a moment.

Then suddenly remembered.

"I told her I didn't want to celebrate."

"Why?"

"I was tired that week."

"Work pressure."

"Too much overthinking."

He nodded slowly.

"That sounds like you."

Mira gave a small smile.

But it disappeared quickly.

"Riya kept insisting I should go somewhere interesting that night."

"Like the rooftop?"

"Yes."

The realization slowly settled between them.

"Maybe she suggested that building," he said.

Mira shook her head.

"No."

"She never mentioned the name."

"Then how did we both end up there?"

That was the biggest question.

Mira stared at her phone again.

The chat screenshot.

The number almost identical to his.

The rooftop meeting arranged at 9 PM.

"Riya works in IT support sometimes," Mira said suddenly.

"What do you mean?"

"She understands phones."

"Apps."

"Numbers."

"Technology."

He immediately understood what she meant.

"You think she created that number?"

"It's possible."

"But why would she pretend to be me?"

Mira didn't answer immediately.

Because another small memory was returning.

A conversation from the office.

Riya had once laughed and said something strange.

"You overthink too much, Mira. One day fate will fix your life for you."

Mira whispered slowly.

"She believed in fate."

He looked curious.

"So?"

"She always said that people who are meant to meet will meet."

The sentence sounded oddly familiar.

Almost identical to the message in the screenshot.

"If we meet again… it means fate wanted it."

He looked thoughtful.

"So she arranged the rooftop meeting?"

Mira nodded slowly.

"Maybe."

"But she couldn't have known me."

That part didn't make sense.

"Unless…"

Mira paused.

"Unless she talked to you too."

He frowned.

"I don't remember meeting her."

"But what if you did?"

The idea suddenly made both of them uneasy.

Because if Riya had contacted both of them separately…

Then she had planned the rooftop meeting very carefully.

"Why would she do that?" he asked.

Mira whispered something that made the situation even stranger.

"Because she once told me something very weird."

"What?"

Mira remembered the moment clearly now.

They had been sitting in the office cafeteria.

Drinking coffee.

Talking about life.

Riya had looked at her very seriously and said:

"One day you'll meet someone who understands you completely."

Mira felt a small chill remembering those words.

"She said it like she already knew."

He looked thoughtful.

"So now we have three questions."

Mira nodded.

"What?"

He counted them on his fingers.

"First…"

"Did Riya really send those messages?"

"Second…"

"Did she contact me too?"

"Third…"

He paused.

"Why did both of us lose our memories after that night?"

Mira looked toward the dark sky.

Her mind filled with curiosity again.

"There's only one way to find out."

"What?"

Mira took a deep breath.

"Tomorrow."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Tomorrow what?"

Mira looked at him seriously.

"I'm going to ask Riya."

The mystery was finally about to face the truth.
