Chapter 45 - The Question Mira Is Afraid to Ask

The next morning felt strangely normal.

Too normal.

Mira woke up, got ready for work, and followed her usual routine.

Make tea.

Scroll through her phone.

Listen to music while getting dressed.

But today, her mind wasn't focused on any of those things.

It was focused on one person.

Riya.

If Riya really sent those messages…

Then she had planned everything.

The rooftop meeting.

The strange promise.

Maybe even the beginning of the dreams.

Mira reached the office earlier than usual.

Her footsteps felt slightly heavier as she walked toward her desk.

The familiar sound of keyboards and quiet conversations filled the room.

Everything looked the same as always.

Except for one thing.

Riya wasn't there yet.

Mira sat down in her chair.

Her heart was beating faster than usual.

Part of her hoped the whole theory was wrong.

Because if it was right…

Then someone she trusted had been hiding something very strange.

About ten minutes later—

Riya walked into the office.

Holding her coffee.

Looking exactly the same as every other morning.

Relaxed.

Cheerful.

Completely normal.

"Mira!" Riya said with a smile.

"You're early today."

Mira forced a small smile back.

"Yeah… couldn't sleep much."

Riya sat down at the desk next to her.

"Too much work stress again?"

Mira didn't answer immediately.

She watched Riya carefully.

Trying to notice something different.

Something suspicious.

But Riya looked completely calm.

Then Riya glanced at her and laughed softly.

"Why are you staring at me like that?"

Mira took a slow breath.

This was the moment.

"Riya," she said quietly.

"I need to ask you something."

Riya turned slightly in her chair.

"Okay… that sounds serious."

Mira opened her phone.

Her hands felt slightly cold.

She pulled up the screenshot of the chat messages.

Then she turned the phone toward Riya.

"Did you send this?"

Riya leaned closer.

Her eyes scanned the screen.

The messages.

The unknown number.

The rooftop meeting.

For a moment…

Her expression didn't change.

Then something unexpected happened.

Riya started laughing.

Not a nervous laugh.

Not a guilty laugh.

Just a normal, confused laugh.

"Mira, what is this?" she asked.

Mira felt a small wave of confusion.

"You've never seen it before?"

Riya shook her head.

"No."

"You didn't send these messages?"

"No."

Mira frowned.

"But the rooftop meeting…"

Riya interrupted her.

"What rooftop meeting?"

Mira's stomach tightened slightly.

"You don't remember talking about it?"

Riya looked genuinely confused now.

"Mira, I think you're mixing me up with someone else."

The answer felt too simple.

Too easy.

Mira leaned closer.

"You didn't tell me two months ago that fate would bring someone into my life?"

Riya raised an eyebrow.

"I say weird motivational stuff all the time."

She laughed again.

"That doesn't mean I secretly set up mystery rooftop meetings."

Mira studied her face carefully.

Trying to detect even the smallest sign of lying.

But Riya's reaction looked natural.

Honest.

Then Riya suddenly asked something that made Mira pause.

"Wait… what rooftop are you talking about?"

Mira hesitated.

Then said slowly,

"Skyline Residency."

The moment those words left her mouth—

Riya's smile disappeared.

Completely.

Her expression froze for a second.

Just a second.

But Mira noticed it immediately.

"You know that place?" Mira asked quietly.

Riya quickly looked away and took a sip of her coffee.

"Lots of buildings in this city," she said casually.

But Mira wasn't convinced anymore.

Because that tiny moment…

That brief change in her expression…

Had revealed something important.

Riya did recognize the name.

Mira whispered carefully,

"Riya…"

Riya didn't look at her.

"Did something happen there?"

For the first time since the conversation started…

Riya looked uncomfortable.

She placed her coffee cup down slowly.

Then she finally looked back at Mira.

Her voice was calmer now.

But also more serious.

"Mira…"

She paused.

"Why are you asking about that place?"

Mira felt a chill run through her chest.

Because Riya's question didn't sound like confusion anymore.

It sounded like fear.

And suddenly Mira realized something terrifying.

Maybe Riya wasn't the one who sent the messages.

But she definitely knew something about that rooftop.

And she had been hoping Mira would never remember it.
