The sun reached its peak as Jason and Jessica entered the academy grounds. Maverick Academy is a school designed to help learn and develop the powers of the blessed and was made up of several buildings. Each building had a purpose and a role within the academy. Due to this, the buildings ranged from only one stories in height to fifteen. There were hundreds maybe even thousands of blessed heading to the main building.
Jessica said "Ok Jason, we need to register with the academy and then they will grant us our dorm rooms."
Jason smiled until a question popped into his head. "Don't academies normally have a dress code?"
"Normal academies do but not Maverick Academy. Maverick Academy doesn't wish to antagonize thousands of blessed fueled by desire. They want to accept us, not force us to make a stampede. So they allow us certain privileges as long as it is within certain parameters."
"What kind of parameters?"
"Well being naked isn't allowed in public areas. There are certain rooms for that if that's what your wondering."
"I wasn't wondering about that you pervert." Jessica shrugged in response as they continued walking.
They soon reached the main building and it was spectacular. Ten stories tall with castle themed architecture. Students formed a line to be registered. The line stretched for so long that it went outside the building.
"Hey do you want to explore first before we enter?" Jason asked Jessica.
Jessica's eyes sparkled. "Sure" she replied sweetly. They circled around the main building to find a dome shaped building. "Can we go in there?"
Jason looked down at her and said "Sure."
The entered the building that looked like a medieval coliseum. They followed a few students that were there into an open arena. It was a massive coliseum with seats that encircled the arena below. Large monitors were displayed above the arena for the crowd to get a closer look at the fights. VIP booths were available above them near the top of the building. The arena itself was made out of some kind of metal that covered the entire floor. And two fighters were about to face off in the arena.
One was a girl with red hair that sparkled in the sunlight. Her eyes held a similar crimson shade and she wore baggy clothes.
Her opponent is a man with brown hair a dark eyes. He wore a dark suit so he clearly had some ties to nobility. Only nobles dressed themselves up like this after all. The monitor above displayed their faces and what creature they bonded with and what year they were in but not their name. They were both in the first year but that wasnt what drew the audiences attention. The man had bonded with a griffin but the girl had taken everyone present by storm. "A freakin' dragon?" Jessica shouted.
Jason was stunned as well. He couldn't believe a human bonded with a dragon had entered the academy.
Everyone else was just as shocked if not more so. "The man may have overheard this in the line and decided to take a chance to satisfy his desire which led this fight taking place" someone nearby muttered. "But i never thought i would get to see one."
The announcer said "Before the fight begins," the announcer was a girl with a soothing voice. "Be aware that death is a real consequence in the field of battle. War is everywhere and does not care about the body count left behind. All that matters is victory. So the rules of the arena are simple. Force your opponent to surrender, knock them unconcious or kill them. No artifacts are to be used in the arena. If you have to rely on artifacts as a crutch, you wont last long in the outside world. With that being said, let the match begin."
The man immediately activated his blessing and decided to go all out from the get go. Wings appeared from his back and his hands and feet turned into talons. He grew another two feet as his muscles deepened and grew more refined. His face turned into that of an eagle and white feathers appeared alll over his body. He dropped down to all fours and charged straight for her.
The girl stood there with a bored look on her face. As he got close, she jumped upward and kicked his beak with her shoe and landed on top of him.
"Didn't anyone tell you, that you're a bigger target if you transform?" She said coldly. "Yield or I will kill you."
"I yield."
"Victory to the dragon!" The announcer said "What delightful display of overwhelming force. As expected of the majestic race." The girl walked out of the arena.
"Well I didn't expect that a dragon would be that strong" Jessica said looking impressed. "What do you think, Jason?" She turned to look at him only to blink in confusion. "Jason?" She nudged him to get his attention. He looked at her.
"What?"
"Your smiling."
"Huh?" He raised a hand to his face and found out she was telling the truth. He was smiling. "I guess I am" he said.
She tilted her head and moved her hand to his chest. "Your heartbeat is beating rapidly. I want you to imagine that you were down in the arena fighting him really quickly." Jason closed his eyes and his smile widened. Upon seeing this Jessica knew what his other desire was. 'I fell in love with a battle junkie.' She thought. 'Makes sense I suppose. He did seem to get beaten up often as a child. Maybe a part of him enjoyed it?' She pulled him back toward the entrance of the coliseum not knowing they were being watched.
The girl from the arena froze before she exited the arena and looked in a particular direction. She didn't know what this feeling was, but she didn't like it. After a moment she spotted Jason and Jessica about to leave. When she saw Jason, her primal instinct was buried beneath an armor of pride but it was still there. She felt fear.
Jessica pulled Jason outside the redhead's line of sight and the redhead walked out of the arena wondering why she, who bonded with a dragon, would feel fear.
Jessica pulled Jason out of the coliseum and started heading back toward the main building to begin registration. They made to the front of the building and the line died down a lot. There were only about a hundred or so blessed left. The academy staff knew what they were doing and worked quite fast to get the blessed registered. There were five staff members all working hard to ensure things go smoothly.
A few minutes later, it was Jessica's turn. Her registration only took a minute. Jason was the last one and moved to the closest staff member. She was a woman that had blond hair and silver eyes. She wore a revealing outfit that made it difficult not to stare at her massive cleavage. Her red lips smiled as he came up to her. "Hi I am Professor Invidia and I'll be your home room teacher from now on. Can I get your name, age, and what creature you have bonded with?"
Jason cleared his throat as he answered her. "My name is Jason and I am 18 years old. I do not know my contracted beast however. I'm a fledgling." He lied about his contracted beast. He knows a phoenix bonded with him but he doesn't want the attention.
"Ok. Young fledgling. Do you have an ability that you can use?"
"Yes I can manipulate fire to some degree."
"Manipulating fire. That's a rare ability in of itself. I will put salamander as your contracted beast until we know for certain. Your registration is concluded. Here is your room key." She handed him a card. As Jason accepted the card, their fingers brushed together and an electric shock traveled down his fingers. "The dorm building is the tallest building at the academy. Your room is 503 on the fifth floor." She handed him some paper and said "This is a map with the location of the classrooms on it as well as the training facility. Welcome to Maverick Academy and I'll see you at home room."
"Thank you professor." A smile appeared on her face as Jason left. The other professors shook their heads in response to what this woman was doing but she didn't care. Registration was officially over and she needed to get back to her other duties.
Jason made his way back to the entrance of the building where Jessica was waiting for him. She smiled at him and grabbed his hand. "Let's go to the dorm building and unpack" she said. "What room do you have?"
Jason responded "My room is 503. What about yours?"
"1101. We don't have the same room." She said with a frown.
"What you want to do it everyday?" Jason said with wide eyes.
"Of course I do. I only ever had one desire and that was you. Now come on. I want to enjoy another round before the sun sets."
Jason groaned in response but a smile formed inside his mind in anticipation.
