Jay's POV
Time slowly started passing.
After that lunch, Kiefer and I began talking more and more. At first it was just small conversations in college, but soon we started sitting together almost every day.
Sometimes we talked during lunch. Sometimes after class.
And somehow… I started looking forward to those moments.
Today we were sitting outside near the college garden. The weather was nice and quiet.
I looked at him for a moment.
"Can I ask you something?" I said.
He looked at me and nodded. "You can ask anything."
I smiled a little. "What was your childhood like?"
He leaned back in his chair.
"Busy," he said simply.
"Busy?" I laughed. "What kind of childhood is busy?"
"When you grow up in the Watson family… everything is business," he said calmly.
"So you didn't have fun?" I asked.
He thought for a moment.
"Kerean and Kyla made it fun sometimes," he said.
I smiled.
"They really love you," I said.
"And you?" he asked suddenly.
I blinked. "What about me?"
"What was your childhood like?" he asked.
I laughed softly.
"Normal. My dad works a lot, and my mom is very strict. My brothers are always protective."
"Protective?" he repeated.
"Very protective," I said. "If they see a boy even talking to me, they will start asking a thousand questions."
Kiefer chuckled.
"Then I guess I'm already in danger," he said.
I laughed. "Maybe."
For a moment we just sat there, enjoying the quiet.
Then he suddenly asked, "Jay… why do you work so hard?"
I looked at him, confused.
"What do you mean?"
"You study, and you work at the café too. That's a lot," he said.
I shrugged a little.
"I just want to help my family," I said honestly.
He watched me quietly for a moment.
You know…" he said slowly, "someone like you shouldn't have to work that hard."
I tilted my head. "What do you mean?"
He looked at me with a small smile.
"You're smart. You're hardworking. You could do much better than working in a café."
I laughed a little.
"And what should I do then?" I asked.
He shrugged.
"I don't know… maybe something bigger."
I raised an eyebrow. "Like what?"
He leaned slightly forward.
"Maybe… working somewhere important," he said.
"Important?" I teased. "Like where?"
He looked at me for a second before answering.
"Maybe… at Watson Enterprises."
My eyes widened slightly.
"The CEO's company?" I asked.
He nodded casually.
"You could do it," he said.
I laughed nervously.
"Yeah right… someone like me working there? That would be impossible."
He didn't laugh.
Instead, he looked at me seriously.
"Nothing is impossible, Jay."
For some reason… the way he said it made my heart beat a little faster.
And for the first time, a small thought appeared in my mind.
What if… one day… I really could work there?
