Chapter 9 - chapter 9

What was this?

Otto stared at the light-screen in front of him with a completely baffled look on his face.

The light-screen was something Void Archives had mimicked. It was a form with the functions of the Second Divine Key.

Just a moment ago, he'd been fiddling with Void Archives' body and making it take all kinds of shapes.

He'd mimicked Void Archives into other Divine Keys, turning her into forms like Mimicry: Abyss Flower and Mimicry: Fenghuang Down, testing out the extent of her power.

This was Void Archives' ability. She could mimic other Divine Keys.

And if you really wanted, she could even turn into the appearance of any woman in the world.

But after seeing what Void Archives could do, Otto felt at ease. As long as he used her, his safety was guaranteed.

Except right when he mimicked the Second Divine Key, Void Archives suddenly turned into this light-screen.

Just a second earlier, she'd still been bragging about how insanely good she was. But after turning into the light-screen, she stopped making any sound at all.

It was like she'd died. No matter how Otto called for her, she didn't respond.

Otto quickly formed a guess. Could it be that after entering this state, Void Archives fell into something like sleep?

But what was this light-screen for? Otto looked at it, puzzled. Keeping this state up consumed his stamina, and he could feel the strength inside his body being drained little by little.

At this rate, in a few days he probably wouldn't be able to endure it.

He looked at the light-screen. Why did this thing look kind of like a browser? Otto raised a hand and tapped it once, and a virtual keyboard popped up immediately.

Had it mimicked a computer?

Otto thought for a moment, typed in a period, and sent it.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: .

Otto was a little puzzled. By now he wasn't some complete novice who knew nothing about this era. The more he looked at it, the more this thing seemed like a chat box.

Then he noticed a list had suddenly appeared on the right side. There was only the codename representing himself—[Puberty Lord Overseer]—in the list, but under his codename there was a + sign.

Otto experimentally clicked the +. He felt a bit of strength get pulled out of his body, and he swayed slightly.

But another name appeared in the list.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]

Did this name represent a person too? Going by the name, it sounded like someone who threw punches.

Otto was puzzled. He'd been about to type something to test it when a new line of text appeared in the chat bar.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: What is this thing...

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: Ah? Why does Seele have such a weird name?

It looked like the other person had noticed their handle was strange.

Seele? Was that a person's name? In that case, this was a message sent by an actual person? Otto was puzzled. He tentatively typed out a sentence.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: Hello.

The other side didn't respond.

Too awkward. Otto couldn't help covering his face. Back in his own time, he'd never been any good at chatting with people either. After sending it, he didn't even know what he was supposed to say next.

A textbook case of social anxiety.

Otto fell silent. His hand hovered over the virtual keyboard as he thought about how to phrase the next line.

But after a while, a message finally came from the other side.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: Hello.

And nothing after that. Clearly, the other person wasn't good at talking to people either.

Even through the light-screen, Otto could practically smell the awkwardness between the two of them.

But after hesitating for a moment, Otto felt he had to be a little more proactive, so he sent another message.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: Have you eaten?

After sending it, Otto silently squatted down on the floor. Did he really have nothing better to say? Like asking who the other person was, or how they were even able to talk to him!

Why had the first thing out of his mouth been "Have you eaten?" What was he, from Shenzhou?

Otto forced himself to pull himself together and stood back up, only to find that the other side had already replied.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: No... Seele's body can't eat anymore.

Just from the words alone, Otto could already pick up a sense of loneliness. But at least it counted as a topic.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: Are you sick? I know a very capable doctor. Where are you right now? I can have him take a look at you.

Otto was probing. If the other side gave him the name of a place, he could have someone go check it out.

If she really was just an ordinary patient, he could even have someone treat her. It would only be a small effort.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: Seele is in a place where Sister Bronya can't find her. It's so dark here. I can't see any sunlight.

Seele should be the other person's name. Otto silently committed the name Bronya to memory as well.

But why did the other side feel like some little girl—soft and delicate? Otto guessed she might not even be as old as he was.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: Are you trapped somewhere? I might be able to help you.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: Mm, thank you, Mister Ghost. You're the first person I've met here who can talk with me.

Mister Ghost? Otto's face filled with question marks. He felt like the other person had gotten the wrong idea entirely.

He typed as he thought. He could pretend to be the "Mister Ghost" she was talking about, but there was no need for that.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: Let me make this clear first. I'm a living, breathing human being.

In the endless gloom of the Sea of Quanta, a girl with black hair tinged blue, cut short to her shoulders, stared in surprise at the light-screen in front of her.

She was a cute girl. On her chest was a red Stigmata mark. She wore a white top under a blue vest, a short skirt in dark and light blue, and a pair of blue-striped thigh-high socks.

All in all, she didn't fit the dark surroundings around her at all.

The girl's name was Seele Vollerei, a poor thing trapped in the Sea of Quanta.

She had wandered through the Sea of Quanta, where time was almost at a standstill, for a very long time. All this while, she had drifted here alone.

When a light-screen appeared in front of her just now, she'd thought it was some kind of strange monster. Typing on it meant chatting with the light-screen monster.

She hadn't spoken with anyone in a very long time. So even if it really was a light-screen monster, Seele still typed on it with interest, chatting back and forth.

But after seeing Otto's reply, she realized she'd made a fool of herself.

Her face reddened slightly. Seele placed both hands on the virtual keyboard and typed.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: Sorry... I think I misunderstood.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: It's alright. Your name is Seele, right?

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: Yes. Seele's name is Seele. Then what is your name?

A smile appeared on Otto's face. He decided to have Amber investigate a girl named Seele. From the way she spoke, she probably wasn't very old, and her personality seemed somewhat timid, so that narrowed the range down quite a bit.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: Just call me Overseer, Seele.

Otto didn't tell Seele his name, because if this girl knew who Otto was, she might notice something was off about him.

So after thinking about it, he added another line.

[Puberty Lord Overseer]: I'm twenty-one. I'm probably older than you, right? You can call me Overseer-brother too.

Otto used the lie to cover up his real identity. After all, there weren't many people with the title of Overseer.

But after a while, there was still no reply from Seele's side, and Otto started worrying that something might have happened over there.

Just as he was about to type and ask, Seele sent a message.

[Seven Punches Through the Sea of Quanta]: Mm, Overseer-brother.
