Chapter 17 - Training in Pairs

The sun was barely beginning to emerge between the trees, scattering golden rays across the forest.

Draven and Zayra met in an open clearing, where they could fight without obstacles. Both were alert, the air heavy with expectation and energy.

"Ready?" Draven asked, assuming a fighting stance.

"Always," Zayra replied, her golden eyes gleaming, her tail constantly twitching in alertness.

The first confrontation began with an explosive attack from Zayra:

She advanced like lightning, delivering a kick that lifted leaves and small stones.

Draven dodged with feline agility, spinning in the air and responding with a series of rapid punches, each reinforced by Armament Haki.

Their energies clashed in the air, small sparks and vibrations coursing through the clearing with each impact.

They weren't just fighting; they were assessing each other's patterns, reactions, and resistance.

Draven then tested something new:

He retreated and feigned a side attack. Zayra reacted immediately, adjusting her stance and counter-attacking forcefully, but Draven dodged again and lightly struck her shoulder.

"That… is fast!" she said, smiling as she retreated.

"Not as fast as you," Draven replied, maintaining his smile but attentive to every movement.

They faced each other for minutes, each blow calculated, each dodge precise.

Zayra used brute force and instinct, but still fought without complete control of her energy.

Draven combined speed, technique, and Haki, maintaining direct and precise attacks.

After a brief rest, they decided to train combined attacks and improvisation.

Draven attacked and retreated, forcing Zayra to react, observing his movements.

She learned to adjust her strength and direction, avoiding wasting energy.

In turn, Zayra created openings that Draven exploited to train dodges, counter-attacks, and quick risk assessment.

The training wasn't just physical; it was mental and strategic. Each studied the other, testing limits and anticipating movements, learning as much about combat as about cooperation and pattern reading.

When they finally sat on fallen logs to catch their breath, Draven spoke:

"You're… intense. But you're starting to control your energy better."

"And you… are too fast," Zayra replied, laughing lightly, though still breathless.

Mutual respect grew silently, without needing words.

They knew this was the beginning of a partnership: both strong, but still learning, about to evolve together.

On the horizon, the forest remained silent, as if observing.

Draven knew that, in the future, the defeated monsters transformed into shadows would be his next challenge—but at that moment, the focus was on growing alongside someone who could fight as an equal.
