The academy courtyard was busier than ever this morning. Today wouldn't just be individual duels or small group combat: the professor had organized a strategic exercise involving multiple teams simultaneously, forcing the students to coordinate movements, protect allies, and exploit their opponents' weaknesses.
Draven felt the Nocteerom pulse intensely. It was the perfect opportunity to apply everything he had been training: shadow hands, shadow blades, and strategic manipulation of the battlefield.
The teams were mixed: Beastikim, humans, elves, dwarves, and some novices of less common species. Draven was placed next to Zayra, who maintained a serious posture, concentrating on each movement.
"Today, you will learn to combine individual skill and team strategy," the professor announced. "Don't underestimate different opponents, nor rely solely on your strength. Observe, react, and adapt."
The exercise began with coordinated attacks from multiple groups. Draven quickly perceived patterns of attack:
Some Beastikim attacked directly and brutally.
Elves attempted quick and precise maneuvers.
Humans and dwarves used resistance and defensive techniques to create temporary barriers.
Draven couldn't copy their energies, but he could read patterns and strategically apply techniques with the Nocteerom. The shadowy hands blocked simultaneous attacks, while the shadowy blades emerged from unexpected angles to destabilize opponents.
While fighting, Draven realized he could subtly organize the team, using the Nocteerom to:
Create shadowy distractions, confusing opponents and protecting allies.
Signal attack movements to teammates, so they could exploit openings he created.
Control the field's space, keeping opponents isolated or unbalanced.
His colleagues began to follow his signals almost instinctively, unaware that they were being guided by the presence of the Nocteerom.
Some students were impressed, others resentful. A young Beastikim tiger-man, known for his brute strength, looked at Draven with a mixture of respect and silent defiance.
"That guy… he's not only strong, but he controls the entire battlefield…" he murmured.
Zayra, watching beside Draven, also seemed intrigued. Although focused on the combat, her attention was divided between her own style and Draven's ability to manipulate the Nocteerom creatively.
When the exercise ended, Draven breathed deeply, satisfied. He had not only won, but had learned to coordinate allies, exploit weaknesses, and apply his Nocteerom techniques in complex situations.
"Every battle is an opportunity," he thought, "no matter the strength of the opponent. Whoever controls the strategy controls the outcome."
While the other students discussed their failures and achievements, Draven was already beginning to imagine new ways to use shadow hands and shadow blades, planning even more advanced adaptations for the challenges ahead.
