I turned to see her step out of Cassius' room, a white towel wrapped around her chest.
Nova grinned as she came toward me, standing confidently before me.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded, panic rising.
"You were so wicked… fooling him with your fake love. Leave!" She grabbed my arm and dragged me toward the door.
"Cassius! Please stop her! Don't do this to me!" I cried, my voice breaking. But he ignored me. His eyes were cold as he watched Nova pull me away.
I stumbled onto the road like a living corpse, muttering to myself, "I will never forgive you, Cassius. Even in death, I will hunt and take revenge… on you and Nova."
"Goodbye, wicked world," I whispered, closing my eyes.
The next thing I knew, I was knocked down by a speeding car.
Lying in my own pool of blood, I was barely conscious. Shapes moved above me. A black silk shoe approached, and someone crouched down to observe me. I tried to see the face, but my vision blurred.
Darkness began to claim me.
After a while Voices drifted through my mind. Where was I? Was this the afterlife?
Of course… I would go straight to hell. I was a sinner.
I slowly flickered my eyes open. A man stood over me, looking down. He was in his forties, wearing a black suit, hands clasped behind his back. He was handsome… dangerously so. Smoke curled from a cigarette he held.
"You're awake," his deep voice rumbled in my ears.
"Where… am I? Who are you?" I whispered. I tried to sit up, but my body refused. I was weak, lying on a huge bed.
"You can call me Godfather," he said, calm but commanding.
"Godfather? Like… God's father? How is my baby?" I asked, my hand instinctively moving to my stomach. I had prayed so hard when the car hit me, begging for my unborn child's safety.
His expression darkened. "You lost the baby."
