Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"The Mystical World of Evernight Kingdom"

That's the title of a book that has recently become hugely popular in my country. Its sudden rise in popularity has everyone—girls and boys alike—talking about it.

I was thinking about it again because some students were discussing it right in front of me in the library. I was just sitting at my table, waiting for my friends. I don't have many of them—I'm kind of a loser, after all. Making friends in school is really hard for me.

The book is about a massive kingdom filled with dragons, elves, vampires, werewolves, and pretty much every fantasy creature you could imagine. It feels like an amalgamation of everything. I really like that kind of book; a good old fantasy story is always welcome.

But I guess some people don't like that genre.

In my first few months of college, I feel like I should prioritize my medical studies. As much as I enjoy reading, there's a time for that kind of thing. Right now, for example, I'm waiting for my friends for a group project. I arrived early because I had nothing else to do.

A couple of girls who were reading the book glanced at me.

I was confused, so I looked back at them.

They exchanged looks, gave me a disgusted expression, and then left their seats.

Wait—what just happened?

They left the table, abandoning the book they had been reading.

Should I call them back in case they wanted to take the book?

Nah, that would be awkward. They already gave me that look.

Besides, it's not their book anyway—it belongs to the library.

*"The Mystical World of Evernight Kingdom"*

I probably shouldn't touch someone else's book, though.

Heh, it's just a random story. What does it have to do with me? I'm here for a group project with my classmates.

...…

There's still about thirty minutes left, though.

...…

You know what? Maybe just to kill some time.

I grabbed the book from the table. The cover was beautifully made—simple, yet striking. this cover seems different than what i know.

I opened the first page.

There was an introduction written in elegant cursive font:

"I want to be with you much longer—"

Suddenly, a blinding light burst from the book, and I lost consciousness.

It felt like a mystical experience. When I woke up, I was in a different dimension.

It seemed like a dream—a lucid dream.

I felt scared. What just happened? Was this a dream? Did I fall asleep after touching the book?

In the dream, my body was floating in a vast, empty dark sky.

After a few seconds, a cloud of light began to form a shape—a luminous, blurry, massive fog.

Right in front of me appeared an ethereal, corporeal figure. It was a giant cloud of dark fog, dazzling with starry lights. Two bright spots shone more intensely than the rest, almost like eyes.

"You… I have chosen you," the giant fog spoke in a scary, ethereal voice.

A shiver ran through my entire body. I still didn't fully understand what was happening.

Chosen me? What are you talking about? Is this a dream?

Why me, and for what exactly?

"What are you choosing me for?"

"I chose you to complete a mission."

"You will be transmigrated into another world to cure a disease."

I thought to myself: Transmigrated? Like in those novels where someone touches a book and gets sent to another world? Did this happen because I touched that specific book?

"But why me?" I asked, still half-conscious.

"Out of every candidate, you're the most suitable."

"..."

"Wait—you're a doctor, right?"

A doctor? No, I'm a medical student. Is that what the fog meant by "suitable"—being a doctor?

"Technically, I'm a first-year medical student."

"..."

"..."

We both fell silent for several long seconds.

"Are you sure? Don't you want to choose an actual doctor for this?"

"No, you're suitable."

"Wait—I thought the requirement was being a doctor to treat the disease. I'm pretty sure there are doctors who read that book too."

I was one hundred percent sure some doctors had read it, given how insanely popular it was.

"You have the same soul as the body you will transmigrate into. You're the only one suitable."

"But earlier you said there were other candidates."

"Umm… because you're—"

...

"Silence, wench. I don't have to explain myself to you."

"What? No—please choose someone else!"

"I will transmigrate you now. All I ask is that you cure the "Aflosian" disease."

A flash of light flickered and burst, filling the dreamlike space.

"Huff—huff—what… what just happened? I felt like I was dying."

It was the middle of the night.

Everything was dark; I could barely see anything except the faint glimmer of a few stars in the night sky. This was definitely not the place I had been minutes ago.

I realized I was lying in a mysterious pool filled with bluish-turquoise water. It felt cold, but not uncomfortably so—if anything, it felt soothing.

I was only half-awake. My whole body was wet, and some parts hurt, but the pain gradually faded away. Through blurry vision, I could see flower petals and even whole flowers of various shapes and sizes floating around me.

After a few moments, I was able to move. I sat up in the pool, my lower body still submerged in the mysterious water.

I wondered: Did I actually transmigrate? Is this inside the world of that book?

But the fog spirit said it was another world. I genuinely didn't understand.

Maybe the spirit lied to me?

I stood up and felt surprisingly light, able to move normally. I looked at my reflection in the water. It was me, but wearing different clothes—a dark purple robe that contrasted with my light purple hair. It looked like something straight out of a fantasy story.

"Wait—did I really transmigrate? This isn't a dream?"

It felt too real to be a dream.

"I can't transmigrate now—I have exams next week!"

No, I have to do something. I need to find someone for help. This is a magical place, right?

There has to be a way to send me back within a week.

"No—I need to find someone fast. The spirit chose the wrong person."

As I stepped out of the flowery pool, I noticed a small cabin not far away.

I quickly ran toward it. It was a large wooden cabin, probably the size of a house.

I knocked on what I assumed was the back door, since it definitely wasn't the front.

A gentle female voice came from inside:

"Come in. I'm busy cutting my nails."

Come in? Just like that? I'm a stranger—should I really just walk in?

"The door's unlocked," the voice added.

I opened the door.

"Sorry, ma'am—I don't know where I am. I'm really confused right now, so I just—"

As I opened the door, I saw a beautiful woman sitting in a wooden chair, trimming her nails. She looked older than me and had naturally white hair—not from aging. People in fantasy worlds often have unique hair colors, and now I had purple hair too.

"Lavii!!" the woman exclaimed in shock.

Her expression was like she'd seen a ghost; she clearly couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Lavii? Is that the name of the person whose body I'm in? As I glanced around the cabin, I noticed a lot of medical equipment. This must be a clinic. From the way she spoke to me, it seemed we knew each other.

"Lavii, you're awake!"

Oh no—I really have transmigrated into this world. The spirit didn't lie. I've become this person named Lavii. I stood frozen in the doorway for quite a while.

...

Honestly, I was still in shock over what had just happened to me. It was exactly like what happens to protagonists in stories and novels. I got transmigrated because of a popular book. This was something I never imagined could actually happen.

But there's one huge problem with the idea of being transmigrated into *"The Mystical World of Evernight Kingdom"*…

I haven't read the book at all…
