Chapter 16 - Chapter 16:Resonance of power

Chapter 16: Resonance of Power

The mountain trembled as two forces faced each other.

Wind howled across the broken plateau, carrying tension sharp enough to cut.

Kael stood at the center—breathing steady now, but his body still burning from the Veil's suppression.

This time…

He wasn't alone.

Commander Vaelor raised his hand slowly.

The Order behind him shifted instantly—reforming, tighter, more disciplined. Their broken formation reassembled into something more refined.

Stronger.

"New variables," Vaelor said calmly, his eyes sweeping over Lyra, Riven, Seris… and finally stopping on Dain.

"…but the outcome remains unchanged."

Riven cracked his neck, grinning. "You talk a lot for someone about to lose."

Vaelor didn't respond.

He simply lowered his hand.

"Execute."

The battlefield erupted.

The Order moved first.

Blindingly fast.

Light surged beneath their feet again—but different this time.

Not a single formation.

Multiple.

Layered.

Kael felt it instantly.

"…It's not the same," he said.

"Because it's not," Seris replied, stepping forward.

She drove her staff into the ground.

A pulse of energy spread outward—

Not light.

Not darkness.

Something in between.

"Focus, Kael," she said. "What you're feeling right now… that's Resonance."

The word hit something deep inside him.

"Every power in this world," Seris continued, deflecting a blast with a flick of her staff, "comes from resonance with something greater."

Riven dashed forward, blades flashing as he clashed with two Order soldiers.

"Some resonate with the Veil!" he shouted, parrying a strike. "Order freaks like these guys—control, suppression, structure!"

He spun, slicing through the air—

A burst of sharp, vibrating energy followed his blades, throwing his opponents back.

"Others…" Seris said, her voice steady, "resonate with natural forces. Flow. Balance."

She raised her staff—

And the air bent.

A wave of pressure knocked three soldiers off their feet without touching them.

Kael's eyes widened.

"And you," Lyra said, stepping beside him as chaos unfolded, "resonate with something far older."

Her gaze locked onto his.

"The Forgotten."

Before Kael could respond—

Vaelor moved.

He appeared in front of them instantly.

Too fast.

Lyra reacted—but Vaelor's hand was already raised.

"Veil Pulse."

A shockwave of pure suppressive force exploded outward.

Kael felt it slam into him—

The power inside him shrieked—

And then—

Dropped.

He hit the ground hard.

Riven staggered.

Seris slid back, barely holding her ground.

Only Lyra remained standing.

"…You've improved," Vaelor said, studying her.

Lyra didn't respond.

Her eyes glowed brighter.

"You rely too heavily on suppression," she said calmly.

Then she raised her hand.

"Let me show you something else."

The air shattered.

Not physically—

But perceptually.

Kael blinked—and suddenly the battlefield looked… different.

Layers.

Lines.

Energy flowing through everything—through people, the ground, even the air itself.

"This," Lyra said, her voice echoing slightly, "is true resonance."

Vaelor's eyes narrowed.

"You're exposing it?" he said.

"I'm correcting it."

She stepped forward.

The energy around her didn't suppress.

Didn't explode.

It rewrote.

Vaelor struck.

Lyra moved.

Their clash didn't create impact—

It distorted space itself.

Meanwhile—

Kael pushed himself up, breathing hard.

"…Resonance," he muttered.

He looked at his hands.

The faint glow returned.

Not wild.

Not broken.

Waiting.

"Stop thinking," Riven shouted, sliding past him mid-fight. "Feel it!"

Kael clenched his fists.

The pull inside him responded instantly.

Stronger than before.

He stood.

This time—

He didn't force it.

He let it rise.

The energy flowed through him—dark, ancient, heavy.

The ground beneath him cracked slightly.

One of the Order soldiers turned toward him—

Charged—

Kael raised his hand.

The energy didn't explode.

It pressed.

The soldier froze mid-step—

Then was slammed into the ground by an invisible force.

Kael's eyes widened.

"I… did that?"

"Yeah," Riven grinned. "Now do it again!"

Across the battlefield—

Dain moved like a shadow.

Silent.

Precise.

Every strike he made was clean.

Efficient.

No wasted movement.

But something about him was different.

No visible energy.

No glow.

Just death.

Vaelor noticed.

"…Interesting," he said.

But Lyra didn't let him focus.

"You're distracted," she said.

Vaelor turned back—

Just in time to block her strike.

The ground beneath them shattered.

"This ends now," Vaelor said.

"No," Lyra replied.

"It begins."

Kael stepped forward.

Riven beside him.

Seris behind.

Dain in the shadows.

For the first time—

They moved together.

Not chaos.

Not coincidence.

A team.

Kael raised his hand.

The Forgotten responded.

And the battlefield shifted.

The war had just begun.
