Chapter 51: The First Fracture of Reality
Eryndor didn't sleep.
Not anymore.
The streets were louder than usual.
Not with life.
With tension.
Guild banners filled the air.
Iron Vanguard.
Silver Dominion.
Ashen Pact.
Each one claiming space.
Territory.
Power.
"…This is bad," Bram muttered.
Lira walked beside him, eyes scanning everything.
"…This is worse than bad."
Nyra's voice was calm—but firm.
"…They're preparing for war."
Tovin adjusted his cloak.
"…No," he said.
"…They're preparing for control."
That was worse.
Kael walked at the front.
He could feel it.
Not just the Devourers.
Something else.
Closer.
Wrong.
They turned a corner.
And the tension broke.
A clash erupted ahead.
Steel.
Energy.
Shouts.
Two factions.
Already fighting.
"…That didn't take long," Lira muttered.
The Iron Vanguard stood firm.
Heavy armor.
Structured formation.
Opposing them.
The Ashen Pact.
Unpredictable.
Aggressive.
"…Stand down!" a Vanguard captain shouted.
"…Or what?" a Pact fighter snapped.
"You don't control this city!"
"…We will," the captain replied.
And that was enough.
The fight escalated.
Blades clashed.
Resonance flared.
Chaos spread.
Kael stepped forward.
"…We stop this."
Bram nodded immediately.
"…Finally."
They moved.
Not to fight.
To break it.
Bram stepped between two fighters.
Catching both strikes.
Forcing them apart.
"Enough!" he growled.
Lira moved through the chaos.
Disarming one.
Redirecting another.
"…Pick a better time to kill each other!" she snapped.
Nyra stepped in
Her presence stabilizing the field.
Suppressing the surge of uncontrolled energy.
Tovin's voice cut through everything.
"…Stop! You're reacting without understanding the variable!"
"…WHAT VARIABLE?!" someone shouted.
And then
Everything stopped.
Not gradually.
Instantly.
Silence.
Every movement froze.
Every sound
Gone.
Kael's breath caught.
"…No…" he whispered.
Because he felt it.
That same presence.
But not distant.
Here.
A figure stood at the center of the street.
No one had seen it arrive.
No one had felt it enter.
It was just
There.
Humanoid.
Distorted.
Its form flickered.
Edges shifting.
Reality bending slightly around it.
"…What is that…" Bram said quietly.
No one answered.
Because no one knew.
The figure tilted its head.
Slowly.
"…Noise," it said.
The voice
Soft.
But wrong.
"…Unnecessary."
Nyra stepped forward slightly.
"…Everyone, stay back."
Too late.
The figure moved.
Not fast.
Just.
There.
One of the Ashen Pact fighters screamed.
Then stopped.
Mid-motion.
His body.
Distorted.
Twisting.
Changing.
"…No—no—NO—" he tried to say.
But his voice broke.
His form shifted.
Bones bending
Skin stretching.
Until.
He wasn't human anymore.
Silence.
"…What did it just do?" Lira whispered.
Tovin's voice was tight.
"…It altered him."
Nyra's eyes narrowed.
"…Forced evolution."
Kael's chest tightened.
"…Elyndra…" he said.
The name hit like a shockwave.
The figure turned toward him.
"…You hear us," it said.
Not a question.
A statement.
The pull intensified.
"…You shouldn't be here," Kael said.
The thing tilted its head again.
"…You shouldn't exist unfinished."
The creature it created lunged.
Faster.
Stronger.
Bram intercepted
Barely holding it back.
"…This thing hits harder than the titan!" he shouted.
"Don't fight it head-on!" Tovin snapped.
Lira moved
Targeting joints
Finding openings.
But it adapted.
Instantly.
"…It's changing mid-fight!" she shouted.
Nyra stepped in
Balancing her power
Trying to stabilize it.
But it resisted.
"…It's not natural," she said.
Kael stepped forward.
The Forgotten stirred.
Not violently.
Answering.
"…It's connected to her," he said.
A realization hit.
"…Then we break that connection," Tovin said.
"How?!" Bram shouted.
Kael stepped forward.
"…Through me."
The others hesitated.
But trusted him.
The figure watched.
Curious.
"…Yes," it said softly.
Kael moved.
Drawing it in.
The pull surged.
Stronger than before.
The creature lunged again.
But this time.
The team moved together.
Bram held it.
Nyra stabilized it.
Lira struck precisely.
Tovin timed everything.
And Kael.
Stepped in.
Not resisting.
Not consuming.
Connecting.
"…You don't control this," he said.
The figure paused.
For the first time.
It reacted.
"…Interesting," it whispered.
Kael struck.
Not with force.
With balance.
The connection snapped.
The creature collapsed.
Returning
Broken
But human again.
Silence returned.
The figure flickered.
"…You are closer than expected," it said.
Then
It disappeared.
Gone.
The street remained still.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
Because now
They understood.
This wasn't coming.
It was already here.
Bram exhaled slowly.
"…That wasn't even one of them, was it?"
Kael shook his head.
"…No."
Nyra's voice was quiet.
"…That was just a piece."
Tovin looked at the space where it stood.
"…Then we are drastically unprepared."
Lira let out a slow breath.
"…Good thing we don't have a choice."
Kael looked forward.
The pull still there.
Stronger.
Closer.
"…They've started moving," he said.
Kade stepped beside him.
"…So do we."
And in the distance
Beyond Eryndor
Something shifted again.
Not one.
All four.
