Looking at how excited the other party seemed, Killian even began to suspect that Lisa might already have leaked his intention to recruit him.
"No need, Dr. Samuel. Let's talk in your laboratory instead. It just so happens that the setting will match the matter we're about to discuss, won't it?"
"Good, good, of course that's no problem at all. My laboratory is just a few hundred meters inside."
"Mr. Killian, I can say without exaggeration that Grayburn College values my research very highly. They even gave me an entire independent laboratory building for my exclusive use."
"So no matter what you want to do, you can rest completely assured."
After hearing Killian's words, Samuel assumed that the other party wanted to inspect his research results and working environment, so he immediately stepped forward to lead the way, all while introducing his own achievements.
And all the way until they arrived at Samuel's laboratory, Killian heard nothing but the man's constant self-praise.
He had to admit, although this guy clearly had real ability, his mouth really was nonstop.
At the very least, Killian felt that with Samuel's skill in rambling, he could probably go spar with the little spider next door or the merc with a mouth, and the three of them would likely become very good friends.
"Alright, Dr. Samuel. The main reason I came here today is for one thing."
"That is you."
After arriving at the laboratory, Killian sat down in a chair and, looking at Dr. Samuel, who was slightly out of breath from all his talking, spoke directly.
"Me?!"
"Uh, Mr. Killian, although I should probably be happy that you think so highly of me, as a man, I really can't accept this kind of special confession from you."
"Uh... I don't mean anything else by that. I'm just saying, although in today's society people can freely choose love, and I don't discriminate against it, I actually already have someone I love, so..."
After hearing Killian's words, Samuel first froze, then looked at Killian, then at himself, and immediately became painfully awkward, hurriedly speaking out.
At first, he had only thought the man was here to invest in his projects.
No one had told him he might have to sell his body too.
For a moment, Samuel looked like he was on the verge of tears. There was even an instant where he seriously wondered whether he should just grit his teeth and go through with it.
After all, if he endured it for a bit, it would be over soon enough, and what he would gain in return would be real investment.
But in the next moment, Killian's following words completely shattered that idea.
"Dr. Samuel, I think you may have misunderstood. What I mean is that I came here to recruit you."
"Before this, I've followed your research in the field of biology. To be honest, I've read your papers and your lecture materials, and I've benefited from them greatly."
"One can only say, worthy of a famous PhD."
"And right now, our company happens to have an extremely important human-body research project that needs a top biologist to take charge."
"So I thought of you."
At that moment, looking at Samuel's awkward expression, Killian forcibly suppressed the urge to strangle him and patiently explained word by word.
"Me?!"
"A human-body research project?"
For some reason, after hearing that the man did not actually require him to pay any "extra" price, Samuel felt relieved, yet also a little disappointed. But when he heard what Killian said next about a human research project, his spirits immediately rose, and he asked curiously.
"Yes. A human-body research project."
"Our company has currently discovered a rare substance. It can help a person break through their bodily limitations and comprehensively strengthen the body."
"It's just that it has far too much instability, and with our current research team alone, we can't fully develop this project."
"So I thought of you, Dr. Samuel Sterns."
"If you are willing, you will become the chief person in charge of AIM's biological projects. For your research, both I and my company will support you unconditionally. You can take full responsibility for the project's research direction."
"After the project ends, you may choose any research project you want to pursue."
"And what I can guarantee to you right here is that this current research project is absolutely something you have never seen before, and its impact will be enormous. If it succeeds, it could even change all of humanity's life."
"And if it really succeeds, then you will be a living Nobel. Believe me."
Looking at Samuel in front of him, Killian spoke while standing up, his tone filled with a devil-like temptation as he lured him in.
And at that moment, faced with Killian's words and that enormous future he had painted, Samuel already felt as if he were almost choking on it.
He could not even imagine just how powerful a human-body research project would have to be if it was truly capable of affecting all of humanity.
And especially that final sentence from Killian had struck him in a deadly way.
A living Nobel.
What kind of achievement was that?
The last person in the biological sciences to possess that level of accomplishment had been Dr. Erskine. The Super Soldier Serum he developed, even now, still had countless research teams and major powers trying to replicate it.
Yet despite decades passing, not a single force had ever succeeded.
That... was the level of that man's achievement.
"You mean... the Super Soldier Serum...?"
At that moment, after thinking of Dr. Erskine, Samuel Sterns stared at Killian with widened eyes and spoke.
"Something like that, but... believe me, its impact far exceeds that, and the final result absolutely will not disappoint you."
"In fact, right now I can even..."
After hearing Samuel's response, Killian's lips curved upward as he began to answer.
But before he could finish, Samuel Sterns raised a hand and stopped him.
"There's no need to say more. If you're not lying to me, then I'm in."
At this point, Samuel was already completely unable to resist Killian's recruitment. He knew that the man had perfectly seized his weakest point.
Of course, for Samuel, this was entirely voluntary.
To become famous in one's own field and leave a name that would endure for generations, how easy could that possibly be?
It required abundant financial support, exceptional ability, and tremendous luck. Not a single one of those could be missing.
And he also knew that if he relied on himself alone, it was basically impossible for him to fulfill his dream of becoming famous in the field of biology.
So in truth, from the very moment Killian first extended the invitation, he had already been moved. In fact, even if Killian had not promised him any benefits at all, he still would have been willing to join without conditions.
