Chapter 15 - The Boy Beside Her

Daniel stood frozen in front of the café.

The world around him suddenly felt silent.

Emily slowly walked closer, the small boy still holding her hand. The child looked curious, his bright eyes moving between the buildings and the people around him.

But when his eyes landed on Daniel, he smiled shyly.

Daniel felt his heart beat faster.

Emily stopped a few steps away.

For a moment, none of them spoke.

"Daniel…" Emily said softly.

Daniel tried to respond, but his voice didn't come out at first.

He looked down at the boy again.

The child had dark hair and calm eyes. He looked comfortable standing beside Emily, like he belonged there.

Daniel finally forced a small smile.

"Hi… Emily."

Then he glanced at the boy.

"And… who's this?"

Emily hesitated.

She seemed to be choosing her words carefully.

"This is Noah," she said gently.

The boy waved happily.

"Hello!"

Daniel waved back slowly.

"Hi, Noah."

Emily looked nervous.

"Can we sit inside?" she asked. "It might be easier to talk."

Daniel nodded silently.

The three of them walked into the café and found a quiet table near the window.

Noah sat beside Emily while Daniel sat across from them.

The waiter came and took their orders. Noah excitedly asked for chocolate milk, which made Emily smile softly.

But Daniel could barely focus.

His mind was racing with questions.

Finally he looked at Emily.

"So… what's going on?"

Emily took a deep breath.

"Daniel, the truth I've been trying to tell you… it's about Noah."

Daniel looked at the boy again.

Noah was busy playing with a spoon on the table, completely unaware of the tension around him.

Emily's voice became quiet.

"When I left this town seven years ago… my life changed in ways I never expected."

Daniel listened carefully.

"And a few years later… Noah was born."

Daniel felt a strange feeling in his chest.

"But… why are you telling me this now?" he asked.

Emily looked directly into his eyes.

"Because you deserve to know the truth."

Daniel's heart began to beat faster again.

Emily's hands trembled slightly on the table.

"Noah doesn't know much about the past," she continued. "But there's something important about him… something I should have told you a long time ago."

Daniel's voice dropped to almost a whisper.

"What do you mean?"

Emily took a deep breath.

Then she said the words she had been afraid to say for years.

"Daniel… Noah is your son."

The spoon slipped from Daniel's hand and fell onto the table with a small metallic sound.

His mind went completely blank.

Seven years.

Seven years of unanswered questions.

And now… everything had suddenly changed.
