Chapter 47 - THE POWER WITHIN

Silence fell—but it wasn't empty.

It was heavy.

Alive.

The air itself seemed to vibrate as Aria stood there, her silver fur glowing like moonlight brought to life.

Marcus didn't move.

"…okay," he whispered slowly, "…that's new."

Rowan nodded, eyes wide.

"Very new."

Even Varkos took a step back.

For the first time since anyone had seen him—

The giant Alpha looked uncertain.

At the center of the clearing, Aria's wolf stood taller now.

Stronger.

Her breathing slowed.

Controlled.

Her glowing eyes locked onto Darius.

And something deeper looked out from them.

Something ancient.

Darius watched her carefully.

No arrogance now.

No amusement.

Just focus.

"Interesting…"

His deep voice echoed across the clearing.

Aria didn't respond.

She moved.

In a blink—

She vanished.

Marcus blinked rapidly.

"…where did she—"

A loud impact cut him off.

Darius's massive body slid backward across the ground.

Dust exploded into the air.

Rowan jumped to his feet.

"She hit him!"

The clearing erupted in gasps.

Aria stood where Darius had been seconds ago.

Her silver glow brighter.

Stronger.

Darius rose slowly.

Shaking dust from his fur.

A low growl rumbled from his chest.

"Good."

This time—

He attacked seriously.

Faster than before.

Stronger.

Deadlier.

But Aria met him head-on.

Their bodies collided with a force that cracked the ground beneath them.

Shockwaves rippled outward.

Several wolves stumbled back.

Marcus grabbed Rowan's arm.

"This is not normal fighting!"

Rowan nodded.

"Not even close!"

Claws clashed.

Teeth snapped.

Speed blurred their forms into streaks of silver and black.

Darius lunged—

Aria twisted midair—

And slammed her paw into his jaw.

The impact echoed like thunder.

Darius stumbled.

Just for a second.

But it was enough.

Aria pressed forward.

Relentless.

Every movement sharper.

More precise.

Like instinct had fully taken over.

Kael watched closely.

His dark wolf stood rigid.

Ready.

But not interfering.

His eyes followed every movement.

Every shift.

And what he saw—

Shocked him.

"She's not just reacting…"

He murmured.

"She's predicting."

Alder stepped beside him.

"Yes."

His silver eyes gleamed.

"The Luna instinct."

Back in the clearing—

Darius growled louder now.

Frustration creeping in.

He attacked again.

But Aria dodged effortlessly.

Her movements almost… graceful.

Like she had done this a thousand times before.

Marcus whispered,

"…she's dancing with him."

Rowan nodded.

"And winning."

Darius suddenly changed tactics.

He lunged low—

Then twisted mid-air—

His claws aimed directly for her throat.

Gasps filled the clearing.

But Aria didn't move.

She stood her ground.

And at the last second—

She lifted her paw.

A pulse of silver energy exploded outward.

It slammed into Darius mid-air—

Throwing him violently across the clearing.

He crashed into the trees.

Several trunks snapped on impact.

The forest shook.

Silence followed.

Complete.

Total.

Marcus slowly exhaled.

"…she just blasted him."

Rowan whispered,

"That wasn't physical."

Alder nodded.

"No."

"That was power."

Aria stood still.

Her glowing form steady.

But inside—

Her heart pounded wildly.

What… was that?

She didn't know.

But it felt right.

Like something that had always been there.

Waiting.

A low growl echoed from the broken trees.

Darius stepped out slowly.

Dust covered his black fur.

But his golden eyes burned brighter than ever.

Not angry.

Not defeated.

Excited.

"Yes…"

His voice was filled with something dark.

"That's what I wanted to see."

Marcus frowned.

"…he's enjoying this."

Rowan nodded.

"That's not good."

Darius stepped forward again.

But this time—

He didn't attack.

He stopped a few feet away from Aria.

Studying her.

"You're still holding back."

Aria's glow flickered slightly.

Confusion crossed her mind.

Holding back?

"I don't even know what I'm doing," she said.

Her voice echoed again.

Layered with that ancient tone.

Darius smiled.

"Exactly."

The words sent a chill through the clearing.

He stepped closer.

Ignoring the tension around him.

Ignoring Kael's low growl.

"You're just beginning."

Aria's eyes narrowed.

"And you're already retreating."

Marcus whispered,

"…did she just—"

Rowan grinned.

"Yes. Yes she did."

Darius chuckled softly.

"Don't mistake this for retreat."

His gaze darkened.

"This is patience."

Aria didn't move.

"Or fear."

The clearing went still again.

For a split second—

Something dangerous flashed in Darius's eyes.

Then it was gone.

Replaced by calm.

Cold calm.

"You've made this interesting."

He turned slightly.

Glancing toward the forest.

"My army will still come."

Marcus groaned.

"Of course it will."

Darius looked back at Aria.

"And when it does…"

His voice dropped.

"…I'll see how much you've grown."

Aria stepped forward.

"I won't be the same."

Darius smiled.

"I'm counting on it."

Then—

Without another word—

He shifted.

His massive black wolf appeared again.

And in a blur—

He disappeared into the forest.

Gone.

Just like that.

The clearing remained frozen for several seconds.

Then Marcus exhaled loudly.

"…we're alive."

Rowan dropped back onto the rock.

"That was insane."

Varkos stepped forward slowly.

His golden eye fixed on Aria.

"You stood against him."

Alder nodded.

"And he left."

Lena whispered,

"That's not normal."

Kael approached Aria.

His eyes searching her face.

"You're hurt."

Only then did the glow begin to fade.

Slowly.

The silver light dimmed.

Her strength drained.

Her legs weakened.

And before she could respond—

Her body collapsed.

Kael caught her instantly.

Marcus jumped up.

"Hey!"

Rowan stood again.

"What happened?!"

Alder stepped closer.

His expression serious.

"The power…"

He looked at Aria in Kael's arms.

"…has a cost."

Kael frowned.

"What cost?"

Alder's voice was quiet.

"She forced it awake."

Silence fell again.

Heavy.

Uncertain.

Aria's breathing was shallow.

Unsteady.

And as Kael held her—

Alder spoke the words that made everything worse.

"If she cannot control it…"

He looked toward the forest where Darius had disappeared.

"…it may destroy her before the war even begins." 🐺
